A late Summer solo hiking and wild camping adventure under the stars to the Big Pine Lakes (Second Lake to be exact) in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains, California, USA. I ventured as far as Sixth Lake as the trail dissipated and was running out of light - all the reason to head back out :)
Nestled in the breathtaking Eastern Sierra Nevada, the Big Pine Lakes stand as a pristine wilderness jewel, captivating hikers with their alpine allure. This awe-inspiring chain of glacier-carved lakes, set against a backdrop of towering granite peaks, offers an unparalleled high-altitude adventure. Beginning at the Big Pine Creek Trailhead, the trail winds through pine-scented forests, revealing turquoise-hued lakes along the way. The crown jewel, Second Lake, enchants with its mirror-like surface reflecting the surrounding peaks. As you ascend, each successive lake unveils its unique charm, culminating in a surreal alpine landscape. Prepare for a challenging yet rewarding journey through nature's grandeur in the heart of the Sierra Nevada.

What an awesome hike. The beauty. Thank you for sharing.
Such a small pack!! Have the best time and meal tomorrow with your family (still watching)
35 liter pack - smaller the better :) Thanks and happy thanksgiving to you!
loving the solitude on this one.
Looking forward to it!
Did I miss the trail name or was it not included?
@@bobw501 This is the North Fork of the Big Pine Creek trail. Probably one of the most popular hikes in the area.
Once again, great job Scott! Camping with a view of Temple Crag was a nice bit. Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it! Amazing place.
So beautiful - thanks for sharing your trip with us!!
Truly is a stunning place!
That was awesome, Scott! What a beautiful adventure!
Thank you, Sarah!
Beautifully done. Really captures the feeling of the area. There used to be a rustic resort called Glacier Lodge near the base of the trail that had horses. My family spent a few holidays there before I was born. I googled and was surprised to find it's still there, albeit with changes. When I was about ten, some friends rented horses there and we rode up to all 5 lakes and another called Sam Mack Lake (if memory is correct). On the way down they insisted on galloping the last few miles.... Your video brought it all back.
It is in fact still there :) Good memories for sure - you should go back!
Omg, breathtaking film my friend! This looks spectacular, drone shots are brilliant!
Thank you!
Beautiful
I too got to spend some awesome time up there this past summer. Looking to do the same again next year.
Awesome! I plan to go back in the spring when there is still snow on the ground.
I did a solo overnight trip to explore lakes and fish in early October. Stayed at Lake 2, near where you camped. Awesome views and great fishing!
That is awesome! Would like to do more Sierra fishing in 2024.
This is amazing I just posted my first TH-cam video that I made while backpacking Big Pines. We hiked all 7 lakes and stayed at lake 2 both nights. Stunning scenery.
Scott, thanks for the video of this hike. I hiked up there a month ago for fall color only intending of hiking to Lon Chaney's cabin and ended up at Third Lake. Truely amazing hike.
I bet the hike was magical during the fall color! 🍁
@@Sheety33 A bit past peak past the Second Falls, but still great color.
I have always wanted to do this trail. It's so beautiful 😊
Well worth the venture into the mountains!
Another stunning video. Thanks for all the hard work it takes to make these.
P.S. The Yellow Curry is probably one of my current favorite meals. Super tasty!
Thank you! The yellow curry was amazing. Had a hard time finding it again this last trip to REI and was probably due to its demand!
@@Sheety33 If you haven't already, try the Peak Refuel Dal Bhat. My #1!
So beautiful! Thank you for sharing.
What a great backpacking trip, thanks for sharing. I like your camp site with the view.👍
Thank you - could not believe my luck with the campsite 🏕️
Awesome video. Can wait for my turn in May.
Have fun!
Fantastic video as always, what an amazing spot you got to pitch your tent, jaw dropping scenery!. Loved the 3 pictures at the end.
Thank you! Yes, was quite surprised I landed the tent location overlooking the lake and plan to incorporate more hiking pics into the films!
Nice video and thanks for sharing. I have hiked up to Second lake and the beauty of that area is amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video Scott. I'm planning my first trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada. What is the best 3-4 day backpacking trip for a father/son trip in July? Been looking at Thousand Island Shadow Creek and this trip you posted. Thanks
Thank you! Gosh, there are numerous to choose from, but as this is your first trip, I recommend hiking the high trail from Agnew meadows to thousand island, then taking your time coming back along the JMT to devils Postpile.
Wow !!
Love that area! Have you been up to the glacier? Well worth the effort!
I have not but need to! Now I have another reason to go back ;)
Classic Sierra trip. Saw a bear at Second Lake when I was there a few years ago. Curious what time of year this was given the record snow pack?
Lucky you! 🐻 This was mid September before the early season flurries.
@@Sheety33 I was in the Bear Lakes basin area mid Sept and had glorious weather!
cool video! on what month did you go?
Thank you! Filmed in September.
Is there people living in the sierra?
Which Big Agnes tent is that?

Yo el 17 de noviembre pero la verdad me falta condición no aguante y me regresé a mitad de camino una en cuanto tiempo es totalmente el tiempo
The trail can be challenging depending on weather and trail conditions. Best to start early when the temperatures are cool and the trail is snow free.
God's country.
