Two ways to make a country wealthy according to Adam Smith: 1. Make sure more people are employed! 2. Increase productivity of the jobs! The reality of things is productivity is king! If you say digging a water pipe trench with a spade will give 100 youths a job, instead of using a machine where you need 2. Why then, don't you use a spoon and give 1000 youths a job? It doesnt make sense! It doesn't make sense to sacrifice productivity for the sake of creating more jobs! So, when we are talking about casual jobs, we are not talking about increasing productivity! So, how are we making things better? To make things better, the government shouldn't focus on giving youths jobs... it should focus on reducing the cost of factors of production so more people can produce, earn and consume! A good road increases productivity! A driver who makes 2, 6-hr trips a day, could make 6, 2-hr trips a day if the same distance of road was good! You have multiplied the productivity of this driver 3 times! How does selling private housing on public land increase productivity? We need to be realistic! Factors of production are getting more expensive: Power, Capital, Transport, Rent, etc! Are all going up! So, how can manufacturing survive regional competition? We don't need to government to create more employment initiatives, we want the factors of production to favor manufacturers, and businesses so we can grow and employ ourselves!
And who do you suggest to replace him? Honest question, I'd love to hear your genius idea and how you think it would help. And please don't say anybody is better
Really, you want to mean we train our youth just to build houses as casual laborers? SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! if at this generation we are still thinking casual
You should pick up a history and economics book and learn that large scale infrastructure projects have been used around the globe before to ignite growth in stagnant economies. This does not mean it's the only way, it's just one of the ways. Also, it's not just the construction jobs that get created. There's a whole supply chain involved from pushing rocks to pushing paper in offices
Diana's question of " who has the money ?" This looks like a plausible explanation as to why Kenyans are not feeling the effect of the lower inflation rate.
You see the problem with this people when they see us walking with sufuria the revolve on thing that we need unga these political class will never understand the common mwananchi
Its one thing to speak and another to speak the truth, on groubnd there are either no such projects or stalled projects. It's shameful how grown ups can publicly lie to the whole nation. The manner in which questions are answered here you don't need to visit the sites to believe that actually they are lying.
