Just because life on this planet is carbon based and requires water does not mean that life forms on any of the moons or even this galaxy has the same requirements.

I am a huge Trek fan but science says all molecules follow basic physics. Periodic table is as element it can be. It follows certain rules. Liquid water is fundamental to life. Liquid methane is too cold for any creature.

@@Civsuccess2 liquid water may not be fundamental to all life.
Here’s a list of criteria I think are needed for life to form on any world
      • within realistic temperature margin:
      Liquid methane is to cold
      • An energy source:
Titanian life forms may use chemosynthesis for life because it’s to far from the sun for photosynthesis, or if there is some biodiversity, they may be heterotrophic
      • A stable environment:
From what I know, Titan isn’t geologically active, so it may be able to hold organisms, but again, it’s to cold
      • a medium to live in:
the only viable area, organisms may be able to live on Titan, is underground, the atmosphere is to cold for organisms, and liquid methane lakes are to cold as well, it would be harsh on their metabolic processes

Titan may warm up enough for more favourable conditions for life when the sun reaches it's red giant phase near the end of its life. Problem is the red giant phase won't last very long so there probably won't be enough time for life to evolve even if conditions are favourable.

I don't know what you mean about water storing electrical energy. The key feature of water that makes it a good basis for life is that it is an exceptionally good solvent, meaning it dissolves and exceptionally wide range of chemical compounds. The most fundamental importance of this is that it can serve as a medium for a very wide range of substances to react chemically with each other. Water is a solvent which is good at dissolving polar or charged molecules/ions. On Titan the ideal solvent might be something which dissolves non-polar substances. (Being far out here but: I love the idea of 'plastic' life on Titan made out of a polythene exoskeleton.)

Sending A blimp to titan makes more sense than sending a boat. We are not aware of what hazards may or may not exist in the lakes, furthermore we do not know if the lakes of the most interesting part of titan. A blimp with a set of sensors, some deplorable on lines, could reach more than one lake. You could also explore rivers and other terrain.

I somewhat doubt methane based life on Titan simply due to lack of carbon, as in titans surface it is three times below the freezing point of Co2. However I wonder if amphibious life could breathe in the lakes of methane and hold its breath on land, although that would require methane to store carbon.

There might be life even on multiple planets and moons even in our solar system. A lot of them seem to have liquid water inside them that is heated by either tidal forces or geologic/volcanic activity. We know from the deep sea on earth that life doesn't necessarily need sun light to survive and can also use volcanic energy.
We never know what kind of giant cave systems and oceans could be inside all the moons and planets, if there are caves isolated from the outside they might even contain atmospheres if the atmosphere can't get lost into space, and we never know what kind of life forms could live deep inside the planets and moons.

Would a better name for potential residents of Titan's oceans be 'Titanics'? Or is that sinking too low? Nice video, btw ;-)

The most likely place for life on Titan is below the crust of the moon, as on Europa.

interesting. Space, planets, galaxies and the universe is a very tough concept to grasp. I don't think we will soon know whats really out there.

There could be life on Titan if NASA didn't decontaminate the probe enough

Bring some anaerobes with the probe and we'll get lives in billions of years.

I think if there is life on other planets, then I think life on planets would use components not comprised of DNA/RNA, rather something that us Earthlings couldn’t fathom.

As mentioned in another video, there is thought to be a layer of liquid water beneath the surface of Titan, so there is double the chance of life evolving.

When will we be able to live there??

  • @kjell159
    @kjell159 4 ปีที่แล้ว

So a moon outside the 'goldilock zone' (life can exist outside it, we just always assume life will be like life on Earth which is pretty much bs, life can adapt/evolve in wildly different environments)
with temperatures freezingly cold, different pressure & gravity.
    Can harbor life.
While I'm still looking for a life here on Earth?
