hi I am looking to buy a vintage Stetson fedora hat, my head circumference is 22.5" but I cant equate that to any of the sizes out there..In your opinion, what hat size should I be looking for ? Cheers
What Scout shrinkage? Some australian stores say to buy a size bigger to allow shrinkage and adjust to your head, looking to buy a cattleman from your store online that's why I ask. Also, the Australian cattlman doesnt have a liner but seems the ones you sell do, Can you tell me why? I really appreciate your time.
We believe in our sizing chart that we detail on www.davidmorgan.com/shop-content/hatsizing/ That said fur felt hats with leather sweatbands do tend to shrink rather than grow over time. I think it depends on humidity and temperature changes and how often you wear the hat which for most keeps the sweatband oiled. A whole size up is too much in my opinion. After measuring, if you are very close to the next size up or down ask us to pick a larger or a smaller sized hat in that particular size, we can usually compare several and give you the one that is looser or tighter, they all vary. We order Cattleman with linings, but sometimes a production note may get crossed and Covid has changed some things too. I hope this helps - Will
i have the akubra fed iv in dark brown. is there a way to get it more INDY brown? can you dye the hat? OR use a shoe polish or watered down fabric paint??
Hey, Dave! I'm back with another question. I've decided to get the Akubra Flinders in heritage fawn. I measured my head, and it comes up as being a near-exact size 59 (23 inches). But I'm a bit worried about shrinkage. Should I go up a size, adding half an inch to the circumference of the hat band? Are Akubras known to shrink once exposed to certain weather conditions? Thanks.
Alas we only bash our own Akubra hats before they go out. Depending on where you are their may be an indy fan nearby reading and willing to help if that sounds like something you might want to do you could subscribe to and then post on indygear.com.
@antagonist42 Thank you for your inquiry. I think your best bet is to put a note with your order saying you'd like a larger 59 as you measure right at 23. Even if you don't heat 'em when they are wet, the tendency is to shrink rather than grow but the variance per size as we get them is as relevant. We'll trade it around for you if it doesn't fit just right! - will
I wear mine just above the ears like it is shown in the video, when I look at old photos of men wearing hats ,Frank Sinatra, they have them way above the ears, why is that?
You, Sir, are a true Fedora Genius and you deserve a thumbs up!
Thank you for a great tutorial

You don’t think you should measure ear to ear and front to back measurements
Please tell me what color hat on this video? Sincerely, Alexander!

How much will it cost for my boyfriend's fedora to have the raiders bash done?

They didn't want the hat to shade or hide the face, so they often set them back on the head in photos of celebs.
Good point, makes the hats look too small to me, unless they deliberately bought smaller hats to get the right look.
australian hat
