My experience with an Armstrong typ mix. A few years after High school in about 1965 or maybe 66 ( when they would still let us by Red Phosphorus) I was experimenting with a very powerful Armstrong typ mix that consisted of KClo3 /red P/Mg in about equal amounts I had mixed this evil stuff with rubbing alcohol for safety and dried it on a hot summer day on my patio. I don"t need to tell you it was powerful my method was to place a small amount on a concrete block an twist my boot on it would explode immediately with a very nice bang after several bangs the wind blew the remainder of this insane mix on the concrete patio and it was not much more than I had been popping with my boot so I stepped on it and immediately had excruciating pain in the soul of my foot and could not hear at all . You see the concrete block was porus but the patio was finished concrete and smooth , who would have known such a small difference could cause so much pain.

The armstrong mix is extremely dangerous because of how easy it ignites with friction. My friend burnt his eye brows and face hairs off a couple years ago when he was simply mixing the Armstrong mix in a bowl... be careful guys

Glad too see that you know the safe way to experiment with explosive substances go small. I learned the hard way in my youth all the way back to when you could buy Red Phosphorus this was with KCL03/P/Mg Armstrong powder mixed in 2 gram lot wet and then dried . Sadly I learned the difference between detonating a little less than a gram on a smooth flat surface and a rougher surface of courts the pressure is exponential as is the pain.

Compared to a lot of flash recipes it’s very insensitive. It needs a solid flame or a doubled up Visco fuse to ignite it. I have never been able to make it fire from shock or friction. It’s a lot safer than chlorates. It needs extremely fine milling for best results.

Ganz genau.

You should never use any of the mixtures presented in the video in any amount larger than half a gram (exept the K2S2O8/Mg). They are incredibly sensitive and when half a gram or more goes off near your face, I guarantee you you will not be able to hear right for a long time. First of all, water would evaporate after some time, leaving you with dry stuff, if you want a paste that lasts use some kind of binder. Secondly, adding to much water to the comp. to mix it, would dissolve some of the fine KClO3 powder. As soon as the water is gone you are left with larger KClO3 crystals, which are now alot unsafer to handle in intimate contact with red P, because the friction is alot higher now owing to the increased particle size. To mix it, I recommend ethanol, it evaporates faster and thereby limits crystal growth and friction hazards. Never go over a gram though, this shit is stupendously powerful.

@@ThunderLunatik No I have'nt. No one should make that stuff I know plenty of people who lost their hands and lifes to that stuff, it's really unforgiving you know. 3 grams is enough for your hand to be blown off completely, over 10 grams is almost always lethal. Stay away from it if you value your hands/life.
