Very nice initial review. Triumph IMHO did a great job R&D'ing this bike and producing it for the masses. I'm sure you will get a lot of pleasure out of this platform. Ride safe!
Anxiously awaiting your review of the Trident. We have one SV650 in the garage now. My son and I both ride it. Both of us find it very nice to ride. Don’t plan to sell it, but may add the new Trident to the pack we have now! Lol... I appreciate your honest and open reviews. Thanks. Ride safe!
@@farmoboy83 .... we will definitely keep the SV. Bought it new in 2004 and have owned several others through the years. But, this one is a keeper. May just add another SV or buy a new Triumph. Thanks.
just rode my one home from the dealer ! wow ! the torque is really there to use and it is so sure footed (in my opinion) that i was able to lean into all the corners and roundabouts on the 50km journey home ! (probably a little foolhardy on a bike that has new tyres and brakes) It handled it with ease ....gave me alot of confidence as a new rider !....now just the 4000rpm limit to hack and i'm set :)
otr price in india is 9.4 lakhs thats just a lakh cheaper than the z900. Not so much of a vfm after all. Ex showroom price is just half the story. Plus u need to spec it out additionally, the stock bike is pretty bare bones.
Thanks again for an honest owners review, more realistic than most of the other reviews done by people who only have the bikes for a while and haven't actually put their own hard earned cash on one 👍
Yes I am 28 and I am eagerly waiting to own this bike after I will add final some numbers in the budget to purchase my first bike. This bike looking very exciting and maintenance friendly too. Also your video is helping me much more before I proceed to purchase this beauty. Would love to hear more from you.
It's just been launched here in India. I'm looking to get my dad to buy one as he wants to get on motorcycling after a 10 year hiatus. Excellent video btw cheers 👍
I have been very fortunate to have had an opportunity to ride a Trident 660 several times now and I absolutely love it! It is so much fun and it's so torque ridden in the low RPMs--it's very forgiving if you find yourself in the wrong gear. My girlfriend's daughter bought one of these and I have been teaching her on how to ride it, along with all of my acquired defensive driving skills I've pickup from years of driving 18 wheelers and with my years of safety training in construction and oil and gas industries. I am hoping that my imparted knowledge will help to keep her safe as she navigates riding around all of these crazy aggressive drivers out on the roads today. Anyway, the 660 is such a great bike! I really want one but I think would graduate up to a Street Triple 765 RS. The 765 still gets really great mpg but has more features and more power. The 1200 only gets like 37 mpg so I think that the 765 would be the perfect balance in the middle for me--but there is certainly nothing wrong with this 660. It's the first 3 cylinder I've EVER ridden and I would NOT go back to a 4 cylinder because of it! Triples just sound way too awesome to give that great sound up--and especially with their much flatter torque curves, seems like a no-brainer to me.
Love your review format! I hope Triumph offers an adjustable clutch lever. I’m probably weird, but smooth, play-free, quality levers and throttle have been a primary factor in my motorcycle buying decisions.
Thanks for an honest review. I was waiting for you to overlook flaws but as the owner other the same model as your former bike, the F900XR, I was pleased that you told it like it was. However, apart from your correct observation of the church pew, I still feel the BMW the has the edge!
Thanks, Kevin. In many ways, the F900XR is superior. Problem for me was the cost. With the options I took, the BMW was not far off twice the price of the Trident, and I don't really think it offered me twice the riding experience :)
Very informative review, it's easy to start looking to see where Triumph has saved the pennies, but that is exactly how they've managed to offer this bike at an affordable price.
You have chosen one of the best motorcycles on the international market today according to my opinion and without discrediting the large number of models. Triumph is a lifelong brand that has contributed to many innovations and very good ideas such as the three-cylinder engine, which is a great success, and very successful models such as this motorcycle or the Tigers or the Speed Triple 1200 or the Street Triple. 765 RS which is the one that I like the most and that I cannot buy not because of its reasonable price but because I would have to separate from my wife before because she is against motorcycles. I appreciate your videos very much because you always give them a human and honest character with a lot of information that is highly appreciated. Thank you very much and take care. All the best.
Good info! Red doesn't bother me, subjective stuff. Clutch lever could for my smaller hands and that rear license/mud/floating thing should be banned from all bikes. Notice the MT-09 got rid of it this season. Trident is very cool! Thanks! Have fun! Stay safe!
I agree with the front fender red highlight. it needs to be gray or black. Great video sir I love your voice hehe. I wish you continue to make videos of your sweet Trident. Like a long term ownership review. Cheers and always ride safe sir.
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes i have, that's why I'm glued to your channel. I'm interested in what it feels like a week later. Also any options you've added and any changes you anticipate making to the bike
Very informative, thanks. Somewhat disappointing fuel consumption for a lower performance engine. Also, I do enjoy your audio voice ovet , very clear , great improvement over other youtube presenters who combine their audio with ridjng the motorcycle. Many thanks for all your efforts.
Love the style and content of your videos, (apart from that horrid phrase confidence inspiring) Can I say surely you have read and seen enough videos, confirming pre - load only affects sag and ride height it will make no difference to ride quality. Look forward to next video.
Great review - thank you! I'm a 2016 Street Twin owner and seriously contemplating trading in for this bike. I do mostly inner city riding and find the 900cc is overkill. I do however love the guttural sound that a twin cylinder makes (I've done a decat and put in K&N filter so it's even gruntier). Look forward to perhaps a long term ownership review down the road. Ride safe..!
I sold my 2017 Street Triple RS because I was sick of going everywhere 'at 100mph'. The Trident sounds pretty much the same as the ST to my ears, though :)
I love the red! This is my favorite colour combination by far, for this bike. Of course, I have a red Ducati Monster, so this little bit of red is nothing in comparison. 🙂
Just a sidenote, the preload adjuster is just there to set the correct ride hight (negative and positive suspention travel) under different loads. It is not there to adjust the stiffness of the ride... That only works if you have fully adjustable dampers.
I'm sure you're right. I'm taking the bike in to the dealer tomorrow to check the suspension and see where the other toys I've ordered are. Stay tuned for Part 2 :)
@@RocketMan_Moto yea, looking forward to it, good reviews so far. I know I had the same discussions on my harley sportster. Quite a firm ride and some people suggested to meddle with the preload. People that knew their shit the told me that preload makes shure that when loading the bike, you have about 2 thirds positive susp travel an 1 third negative. Load the bike more, crank up the preload to get the optimal travel, when traveling light, you have to soften it as not to have zero negative travel. The actual stiffness shou not be impacted, just the travel. But max positive travel means no negative...hence, there is only one optimal setting for each load.
Love these, everything it correct. Thanks for the video, so glad you found the bike that suits you. Pilot roads are the best tyres ever made 3/4/5s. There is no other tyre I've ever used that has this wet weather grip.
You have a nice soothing voice as if a Honda humbled you once. I just can't get over how pretty the Trident is. I think it blows away the CB650R in looks.
You can adjust the clutch in a way, by moving the whole lever along the bar, the way a lever works mean you will have more leverage hence easier to pull...
The zoom in on the rear swing arm @8m30s shows the same steel construction method as the MT07 with 2 sections welded together along a seam . Yamaha owners will typically see rust form along that joint . It’ll be interesting to see if the trident suffers the same rust issues with U.K. riders .
Nice review, note your comments on a tank pad. Tank pads are something I have never understood it’s a bit like keeping the plastic covers on seats. Tank pads might stop scratching but they stop it on a part of the bike you’ll never see because it’s covered with a tank pad. I never add one and if I do happen to get any small scratches then it’s easy to cover them with a tank pad before you sell👍
Thanks a lot for the nice video again. I would really be excited to see a review for one with a quick shifter. I think it will really compliment the reviews i have been hearing so far.
Thanks. I ordered the quickshifter but it wasn't available when I picked the bike up last week. I have to return to the dealer to get it installed next week.
Thank you. Glad you are happy. I have to admit I want to see it redline when the break in is over. ;) I like the naked but for me the more up right riding position version will probably be the one to get. But I am very excited by the triple engine. It seems sweet. I hope they dont introduce vibration to give it "character". Have a good weekend
Between this and the Honda. If this bike was made in the UK I would probably have gone for it. But because both bikes are made in Thailand I’ve gone for the Honda. You know a Honda will always be reliable. It’s a shame had a Daytona back in 04. Loved it and loved the factory tours. Now that’s all gone just thinking about best bike for my cash. Nice video.🙌
I like the Trident but as a one bike person I'm not sure of its versatility. Currently own a V Strom 650. Its a quandary..... Really enjoy your content.
I pre-booked the Trident ( *white* ) in December, here in India, it'll be delivered to me in March. Don't know if i should cancel my booking or not ! after hearing about its shortcomings, eg. Long Travel of Clutch Lever (i am short, 5'6", so my hands/fingers aren't big/long) ... & Vibrations at 75+ MPH speed, ... & extra-wide Radiator ... & horn placement, & firm suspension ... & position of numer-plate & foot-pegs, ... etc. Thanks, Regards.
Well, I don't regret my choice. I was deliberately highlighting the negatives in the name of objectivity, but overall it's a great bike and I'm very happy with it :)
@@RocketMan_Moto thank you for your positive reply, now i have cancelled the cancellation of my bike, ... i have the 2020 KTM 390 Duke since september, Trident will be my 2nd, Ducati V4 Streetfighter should be my third. Two more things :-- i love your Channel Name - RocketMan, would also love to know your real name some day ... i don't like the Elton John's version of the Song - "Rocketman" -- but that by the Band - "Ninja Sex Party", in case you haven't heard, give it a listen ! secondly -- i forgot to add 5.8 Litres / 100 Kms ... to the previous reply, .... & wish there was a Quick Shifter too.
Great reviews. I’ve bought the black sapphire as it was last colour in the dealership…I’m not keen on the silver colours of the radiator cowl or silver footpeg rests and brackets on either side. I’d much prefer them in same black as the tank. I’m hoping aftermarket will offer these changes down the track. Looking forward to more vids and thoughts.
@@RocketMan_Moto tha me RM….sorry for the spamming on your videos but as I watched and listened I couldn’t agree more on those topics you raised. I guess like my Aussie mate said though…”just get on the damn bike and ride it!” Hahaha
Have you come across this site before? Some interesting tweaks: www.powerbronze.co.uk/catalogsearch/advanced/result/?finder_id=&from=home&cat_id=0&brand=TRIUMPH&model=TRIDENT+660&year=2021
I really lilke the look and the sound of the bike! I think you made a good choice if it makes you smile during your rides ;) bought a new bike too some days ago - will get my versys 650 next week :))
Congratulations on the new bike ,looks a beaut . Be interested to see about long term reliability . I bought last of the old model Triumph street twin brand new. Had a few issues ,mainly electrics. Triumph electrics a big secret , particularly on the liquid cooled Bonneville range. Sixty three thousand units {so far} with faulty wiring harnesses . Mine had a complete new harness with 1200 miles on the clock {just in warranty}. Don't think i will buy another . A big secret on Triumphs part.
Thanks, Michael. I usually change my bikes every year, so long-term reliability isn't really an issue for me. That said, the F900XR I had last year required to many trips to the dealer and I wasn't happy. Fingers crossed the Triumph fares better. I never had any issues with my 2017 Street Triple :)
Thank you for your impressions.I am going to change my 2015 mt07 with this bike I Just returned from the dealer. I opted for the sapphire black one with TPMS and passenger handles I really don't understand the point of the Bluetooth module because all the intercom systems are capable to manage music and phone calls. The really useful option I can think about it is integration on navigation system but it seems too expensive for such rare use. IMHO
@@RocketMan_Moto Thank you :-) I drive motorbikes since I was 16 , now I am 47 and mt07 was the funniest /easiest bike I ever had. This new Trident has a very tough job I wish you awesome rides keep us posted!
I do like the bike but its interesting what you say about servicing. In the earlier Triumph launch vids they say service costs will be lower but if you're a low to average miles rider you are going to still need to service yearly if you want them to honour warranty work. My BMW mini car service plan only wants to see the vehicle at the correct mileage.
That’s the first time I’ve heard a triple exhaust. I haven’t really paid attention to triumph as they have never been on my radar. Sounds sweet though and will hopefully be getting a trident 🙏
Sounds like the man has been let lose in a sweet shop! The red bits do need to be toned down just so that no one can accuse you of a mid-life crisis :). You’re obviously very chuffed with the little Trumpet and it sounds like a Castle Class giving it the beans, which is a bonus in my view, but I am in the older demographic. I would suggest that any add-ons are kept discrete so as not to spoil the lines of the machine, and if pillion is not an issue then defo ditch the rear pegs. I believe that tyres are so expensive that you should look to use all of the available tread area! Looking forward to next instalment Stay safe fella Strickers
Thanks, Mark. Don't worry, any mods I do to my vehicles are designed to keep the OE look as much as possible. I really have to do something about that front mudguard, though :)
Re suspension, you know that short C-spanner? There's usually a little tube that pops on the end to make it longer, I'd struggled for years before I realised, doh! This is where centre stands really help as it reduces the weight on the shock
That looks quality, in fact, I like the red bits but less impressed with the Trident ‘knee pad’ area which jars a bit with me. This would make an excellent commuting bike with sufficient power/looks/ weight to get the job done. Enjoy!
Great video, I'm still thinking am I going to be too old to be riding this bike at 50 after seeing ages of people who are interested in the trident ! Silver is the colour to have but could be a bit less red.. waiting to see how build quality stands up, Trident 660 or CB650r ??!
@@RocketMan_Moto Thanks I don't feel so bad at 50 yrs old now ! Yes I do love a triple(shouldn't have sold my xsr900). I'm on a Xv950 v twin at moment so like low down torque , the 4 cyl might be to revvy😵
Too old David? I'm 72 and riding a Yamaha FZ07. It's okay, get what you like, nobody cares. I find those age surveys interesting, but essentially meaningless.
The slightly high fuel consumption is not because the engine is "tight". I promise you it isn't. The fuel consumption will be better at higher revs (which I'm aware isn't the common belief) which you can use when you've finished the run-in procedure.
Thanks, David... the figures I gave were actually incorrect. 5.8 litres/100km is actually 50 mpg UK, 40 US. Siri messed up and I didn't check. Apologies :)
I'm 72 and returning to riding after 40+ years. My last bike was a 1976 Honda CB400F and I loved it. So I was planning on going Japanese after taking the MSF Basic Course this March. That is, until my nephew told me about the Trident. He's been riding since he could walk and was excited about the upcoming release of the Trident 660. We don't have the Trident 660 here yet so I've spent the last month reading and watching all I could. I too prefer the silver, but I will not live with the red "accents". Unfortunately, from what I've seen of all four Trident color combos, not even the matte black bike has black radiator side covers. They're silver. So rather than have the red "accents" of the silver bike professionally painted, I can live with the matte black Trident 660 and maybe even learn to love the colors, though that bright white Triumph logo is a little loud. I agree with you, Triumph definitely blew it with the silver/red combo. Yet, even if the Trident 660 only came in yellow/vomit, I would still want to test ride it and probably buy it and have it repainted if it's anywhere near as good as the reviews. Thanks for your posting and I look forward to your one month review. Good luck and blessings with your new Trident 660!
I can see these bikes 10 years from now having never had the oil changed. as a professional mechanic I strongly recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles or every year whichever one comes first. Extended maintenance intervals exist for the convenience of the customer not the health of the machine.
surely it depends on the use of the engine, short rides with an initial cold engine and lots of stop starts will be harder on the oil than longer rides where any moisture is blown out the exhaust, engine oil gets nice and hot and fully circulated. Allways use decent quality oil, my car (diesel) has so called "intelligent" oil service schedules and typically are around 16K which is less than a year. its done 174K miles and still is very sweet. There will be riders who think its 10,000 miles which might take them 3 years to reach. I know bikes rev higher but it does surprise me the short service intervals V cars
@@guyr7351 usage does make a difference but extended intervals cause more build-up in the engines which can and does take out things like cam phasers etc. your truck may be running well but I guarantee that there is more junk inside the engine than there would be if you change the oil more often.
@@RocketMan_Moto my main triumph dealer says when I receive my trident 660 after 500 miles its gotta go in for an oil change why is this, and great review iv bn waiting for this 1 cheers.
I had a well run in derestricted 2018 Street Triple 660, that in theory should be worse MPG than this. On the display it reported between 55 and about 59 MPG (UK gallons) I dunno if it was lying !
I know this is an old video and still a good review. Just want to provide a different perspective on the clutch. I'm used to a cruiser with a pretty far clutch. I don't find this clutch to be difficult and I have very small hands. That being said it is a matter of perception and you should do what works best for you so that you are comfortable.
Sexy bike, Sounds just like an old BMW K75 with the gear wine and triple combo. I am afraid I need something a little bit more comfortable suspension wise, like a CB500X perhaps. Road conditions are bad over here. Love your honest opinion about your bikes, subscribed...
@@RocketMan_Moto i’m a street triple owner myself and to me it seems that triumph is setting their shocks up ver soft, more for the 75kg mannequin types not the 100kg hairy guys with riding gear on ;) you might want to check your shock if you aren’t bottoming it out which would make it feel super hard in lieu of it actually being too stiff. shock shaft is pretty visible as is the bottom out bumper, if you get the shock shaft all completely clean and a round impression in the bumper you know what’s actually going on.
Maybe a question for the next video. Does the red underseat cover need a paint protection film due to debris/dirt coming from the rear tire? And looking forward to the review of the quickshifter :)
Excellent review! I hope Triumph is watching and makes some tweaks that reflect your inputs, some of which (long reach to the clutch lever, high gas tank cut-outs, ugly plate holder) I have seen on other reviews. Can you please say where you got that beautiful leather key cover?
Well that looks like a fine motorcycle indeed....it looks well put together and very good quality...will you be fitting a rad guard?...as you say it looks quite wide and might pick up the odd flying stone/debris.....I reckon this will be a fun bike to blat around on...review nicely delivered as always...enjoy your new bike and many happy miles👍...oh...nice to see decent tyres fitted as standard.
It's just my own preference but I'd love to see MT-09 rear fender/plate holder style equipped on this Trident 660. It will be much cooler than the current one.
Thanks for all your videos. As someone who is looking for his first bike, I've really enjoyed your very informative content. I'm leaning towards the CB500X because I plan on doing slightly longer touring as well as daily commuting. I prefer to go on smaller roads, so don't think the engine vibrations will be an issue for me. If I was a bit more wealthy and experienced I would probably have look at the new Multistrada V4 S. It looks like an amazing machine. So many great bikes out there. It can be slightly intimidating to navigate the market. That's why genuine reviews and impressions like you provide is a warm welcome for someone like me.
Hi, liked your video, but I am interested in the leather keychain cover could you plz shed some light on the make, so sorry for asking a trivial question not pertaining to the bike as such, cheers
My 2017 Street Triple RS was considerably more racy (and uncomfortable)... and that's actually what prompted me to sell it. I was tired of going everywhere 'at 100mph' :)
Just a thought .... from looking at the bike in this vid , My thoughts are its Triumphs version of Yamaha;s XSR900(849) for the A2 cat licence holders ! with better suspension . Do hope someone comes up with a decent length Hugger and a tail tidy to get rid of the ugly plate thing ......
After much thought, I've decided to keep the ugly plate holder. I think mounting a tail tidy will remove some of the bike's essence, though I'll reserve judgement until I see what Evotech come up with.
Have one on order ( white ) and can make myself some lower pegs. I'm 69 with a small machine shop and have made them for other bikes. Have a knackered rt knee from a bike race in 2002. ...2 TI plates and a dozen dry wall screws.
@@RocketMan_Moto Most of the aftermarket pegs / rear sets tend to be higher up and farther back. Main reason I make my own, besides being a cheap bastid.
Lovely bike in deed. Do you ever tried out the CB650R? If so, major differents, if not, try out. It´s a good dinamic comparative. Look wise the XSR 700 is pretty cool to but tec wise the Honda and the Triumph are miles away. You might get in trouble here if you take the rear footpegs...yeah i know...The red bits may look better if get some logo´s in black...Good luck with the bike. Hope to see you on the road.
I want to try the 650R to do a head-to-head video with the Trident, but as you know, test rides are impossible at the moment with the lockdown restrictions. Hopefully these will lift in a few weeks :)
@@RocketMan_Moto yea I just think it’s a shame to put something there and have it be purely aesthetic when they could take care of one of the first and most common aftermarket needs people have by incorporating something grippy in the design. It’s such a pretty bike just as is.
The CB650 is a 4-cylinder so needs revving more (which I don't like), but finish is on a level with the Triumph. Looks a bit more ordinary, though, imo. Haven't tried the Z650, not a Kawasaki fan really :)
Hi, did you get the My Triumph Connectivity Module, and if you did, how well is it working? I am also interested in the fuel consumption, as I will be exchanging my PCX 150 for the Trident, however, I am not expecting the same consumption.
Fuel consumption will be revealed in the video this afternoon😊 I did order the Bluetooth connectivity kit, but it wasn’t available when I picked the bike up last week, so I need to return to the dealer to have it installed.
Glad you like your new investment; may that continue going forward. I have never ridden the bike, it’s true; so I’m not really in a position to comment. But, the non existent rear seat is a deal breaker for me. A lot of modern motorcycles, not just this particular motorcycle give the appearance of a front end smash. Same applies to the abortion that constitutes the rear light etc hanger. Things I suppose one has to put up with. Which is all a great a shame because the engine sounds excellent. Triumph must be happy; but I can’t help believing that Triumph have missed a great opportunity here. I’m lucky in that I have a modest stable of motorcycles. Last year I test rode a Bonnie, not impressed at all. So I bought an Interceptor. At £5600 it is as cheap as chips, but it does have a centre stand as standard and a great choice of colour-ways. I agree with your comments about the crappy indicators etc. I’m 6ft and 15 stone and my wife is 5’10. The Inty carries us both comfortably at all speeds, even on highish mileage day. The foot pegs are well placed, my knees don’t feel bent or my feet too high and my wife simply loves riding on the bike as much as she likes riding on my CBF 1000 A7. The Inty is now my go to bike, it is so easy to ride. I don’t need a 100 horses. It is amazing that a 47bhp engine performs so well in the real world. Isn’t this what makes motorcycling the great church that it is. Such diversity with something to please everyone, well most people. Enjoy your bike and ride safe
The Trident definitely isn't a bike for 2-up riding, but I very rarely do that anyway. I've even removed the rear footpegs on the Trident now. Looks cleaner :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes, you mentioned your intention to do that on your video. Mind, I am still gonna have a test ride on one when our political masters release us from lockdown. We tried a Kawasaki RS 900 and my wife found the grab rail stuck in her back, this was a used bike with an aftermarket part on. Due to Covid new bikes are not getting to the showrooms. It will be interesting to try a brand new RS without the aftermarket part and see what she thinks of it. You see, I cannot buy a bike that is not capable of carrying a passenger; so quite a few brilliant bikes are out of the question. Luckily we both love the CBF, it is more than capable of doing all we want, so I’m not in a rush to replace it. Enjoy your new Triumph, I’m really looking forward to trying one myself, I know I won’t be disappointed. Ride safe
Last bike I owned was a 1998 fzr 600r. They both have the same HP, both about the same weight. The fzr was a 4 cylinder. Anybody know if the Triident would be as fast as the fzr
I own a street triple. I was wondering if you’re feeling any heat . I live in a hot climate and the street triple can get quite hot ion the underside of my thighs.
MPG. Rocketman reports 49 MPG, I guess it's still being run in (I've found this does make a difference). Bike magazine Mar 2021 reported 60 MPG. My former well run in by the time I got it 2018 Street Triple 660 derestricted would get between 55 and 59 MPG , this should be a bit better, so 60 MPG does sound plausible once run in !
Your review is so refreshing and honest unlike those from the majority of motorcycling media in general.

Thanks. The Trident makes an excellent first bike, or bike for those looking to return to motorcycling :)
Have to agree with those sentiments. Cracking engine :)
exhaust sounds awesome. Sweet review.
Thank you. Yes, it's a great exhaust note :)
Love your review format! I hope Triumph offers an adjustable clutch lever. I’m probably weird, but smooth, play-free, quality levers and throttle have been a primary factor in my motorcycle buying decisions.
I have ended up ordering a pair of adjustable levers from Motea.
Totally agree. The Trident hits the sweet spot👍
Thank you! I loved my ST RS for a year or so, but I became tired of riding everywhere 'at 200kph'. The Trident is a more manageable version :)
Good info! Red doesn't bother me, subjective stuff. Clutch lever could for my smaller hands and that rear license/mud/floating thing should be banned from all bikes. Notice the MT-09 got rid of it this season. Trident is very cool! Thanks! Have fun! Stay safe!
Thanks, Joe. Ride safe :)
Nice video...again, can’t wait for the upcoming updates as quickshifter and bluetooth !
Hopefully they will be fitted next week👍
I’m also from Portugal, will wait your next videos to make sure this will be mu next bike!
The bike has arrived in my country and absolute thanks to you for such detailed and equally beautiful vlog 🙏🔥👍
Thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I hope you enjoy the Trident :)
I agree with the front fender red highlight. it needs to be gray or black. Great video sir I love your voice hehe. I wish you continue to make videos of your sweet Trident. Like a long term ownership review. Cheers and always ride safe sir.
Thanks. I won’t be making any more videos of the Trident, unfortunately. I sold it for a Speed Twin last summer😊
@@RocketMan_Moto oh ride safe sir hehe.
Thanks for your time & effort bringing us these reviews mate
Thanks for watching :)
WOW, can't wait to hear your thoughts about the bike!
Have you seen my initial thoughts video from last week?
@@RocketMan_Moto Yes i have, that's why I'm glued to your channel. I'm interested in what it feels like a week later. Also any options you've added and any changes you anticipate making to the bike
The accessories I ordered haven’t arrived yet, unfortunately. The mods video is coming next week👍
Very informative, thanks. Somewhat disappointing fuel consumption for a lower performance engine. Also, I do enjoy your audio voice ovet , very clear , great improvement over other youtube presenters who combine their audio with ridjng the motorcycle. Many thanks for all your efforts.
Thank you. I messed up on the fuel consumption: 5.8 = 50mpg UK, so apologies for that.
@@RocketMan_Moto Even this will increase after the first service. 54-56 mpg easily. Which will be great for a bike like this.
Love the style and content of your videos, (apart from that horrid phrase confidence inspiring) Can I say surely you have read and seen enough videos, confirming pre - load only affects sag and ride height it will make no difference to ride quality. Look forward to next video.
Promise not to say confidence inspiring again :)
Spectacular looking bike sir
Thanks, Tim :)
My last two bikes were red😊
@@RocketMan_Moto Mea culpa.
enjoyed your honest review of your trident ,no motorcycle is perfect. .ride safe .
Thanks 👍
Thanks😊
You have a nice soothing voice as if a Honda humbled you once. I just can't get over how pretty the Trident is. I think it blows away the CB650R in looks.
Thank you, Stanley. I agree the Trident certainly is a looker :)
V-Trec levers from the Street Cup fit straight on look good too. Lots of colour variations
I ordered a pair this morning 👍
Thanks RM , great informative clip as usual! Enjoy.
Thank you :)
You can adjust the clutch in a way, by moving the whole lever along the bar, the way a lever works mean you will have more leverage hence easier to pull...
True, thanks! I have actually ordered a pair of adjustable levers now though, so I'll wait for those :)
The zoom in on the rear swing arm @8m30s shows the same steel construction method as the MT07 with 2 sections welded together along a seam . Yamaha owners will typically see rust form along that joint . It’ll be interesting to see if the trident suffers the same rust issues with U.K. riders .
Duly noted. I’ll keep an eye out👍
Nice review, note your comments on a tank pad.
Good point :)
@ 11:03 hard to tell if there’s a white border to the big triumph logo straight line or if that decal just looks that obvious
See last week’s video for a close-up of the decal
Thank you. Glad you are happy.
I have to admit I want to see it redline when the break in is over. ;)
I like the naked but for me the more up right riding position version will probably be the one to get.
But I am very excited by the triple engine. It seems sweet. I hope they dont introduce vibration to give it "character".
Have a good weekend
Thanks😊
Between this and the Honda. If this bike was made in the UK I would probably have gone for it. But because both bikes are made in Thailand I’ve gone for the Honda. You know a Honda will always be reliable. It’s a shame had a Daytona back in 04. Loved it and loved the factory tours. Now that’s all gone just thinking about best bike for my cash. Nice video.🙌
Thanks! I've had a few Hondas and I agree they are excellent, ultra-reliable bikes - enjoy :)
Great video I think it's a great little bike for commuting or even going for a Sunday blast looking forward to next video's stay safe 🇬🇧👍
It's exactly that, Richard :)
I like the Trident but as a one bike person I'm not sure of its versatility. Currently own a V Strom 650. Its a quandary..... Really enjoy your content.
Thanks, Colin. As you will see in my upcoming video, you can take the Trident off road (a bit), so don't let that put you off :)
Thanks, and enjoy the tweaking - almost as much fun as actually riding the bike :)
@@RocketMan_Moto tha me RM….sorry for the spamming on your videos but as I watched and listened I couldn’t agree more on those topics you raised.
I guess like my Aussie mate said though…”just get on the damn bike and ride it!” Hahaha
A few people make that comment. They say I’m too picky and should just ride, lol. I feel like replying, « why did you watch my video, then? »😀
Have you come across this site before? Some interesting tweaks: www.powerbronze.co.uk/catalogsearch/advanced/result/?finder_id=&from=home&cat_id=0&brand=TRIUMPH&model=TRIDENT+660&year=2021
Yes, I know Powerbronze, but thanks :)
I noticed the same with clutch lever and have changed to midi aftermarket adjustable ones from Germany, delivered within a week and fitted. Perfect.
My levers finally arrived and I have fitted them - very good. Did you get yours from Motea?
@@RocketMan_Moto No mine were from Probrake, in Germany.
I personally like the swing arm mounted license plate arm, compared to the under tail type.
Yes, I'm ok with it too, tbh :)
I really lilke the look and the sound of the bike! I think you made a good choice if it makes you smile during your rides ;)
bought a new bike too some days ago - will get my versys 650 next week :))
Thanks. Hope you enjoy your Versys :)
IMHO
Nice choice. Hope you enjoy it as much as me :)
Exactly. A computer controlled service indicator, like we've had on cars for years, would be much nicer.
That’s the first time I’ve heard a triple exhaust. I haven’t really paid attention to triumph as they have never been on my radar. Sounds sweet though and will hopefully be getting a trident 🙏
It's one of the best sounds in motorcycling, imho :)
Looking forward to next instalment
Stay safe fella
Strickers
Thanks, Mark. Don't worry, any mods I do to my vehicles are designed to keep the OE look as much as possible. I really have to do something about that front mudguard, though :)
@@RocketMan_Moto The red flash lends itself to a RM logo!
There’s a thought 😎
Re suspension, you know that short C-spanner? There's usually a little tube that pops on the end to make it longer, I'd struggled for years before I realised, doh! This is where centre stands really help as it reduces the weight on the shock
I tried extending the handle, but I still can't budge it. I'll ask the dealer next week :)
I don't think preload affects hardness/softness of suspension, just rear height
Could be, I'm no expert. I need to talk to the dealer next week :)
Damn, I love this bike! Cheers!
Thank you😊
That looks quality, in fact, I like the red bits but less impressed with the Trident ‘knee pad’ area which jars a bit with me. This would make an excellent commuting bike with sufficient power/looks/ weight to get the job done. Enjoy!
Thanks. I agree about the knee pad :)
What is the mileage of this bike
At the time of this video, I think it was about 400km.
You will need to get a lighter spring for the rear. Moving the adjuster only changes the breakaway point and not the spring rate. Hope this helps?
I fear you may be right. Waiting for Öhlins to produce something outrageously expensive :)
The plate holder looks great to me, much better than a rainbow arch tail on the back end..
I agree, but it does take away some of the Trident's character
Great video, I'm still thinking am I going to be too old to be riding this bike at 50 after seeing ages of people who are interested in the trident ! Silver is the colour to have but could be a bit less red.. waiting to see how build quality stands up, Trident 660 or CB650r ??!
I'm 57, David, so you should be ok :) The Honda is a 4-cylinder, so needs revving more, which with my arthritic fingers is no fun, lol
@@surferdude642 Your right there Ted, it's mainly my Mrs saying I'm having a mid life crisis 😆
I'm 50 and waiting for my Trident, FWIW
Lay off the DECAF mate ... show some excitement for this beauty !!
If I get too excited, Triumph will want to start paying me, and none of us would want that😉
The slightly high fuel consumption is not because the engine is "tight".
Thanks for that. I was highlighting the details in the name of objectivity. It’s a great bike overall. I’m really happy with it
I'm glad to hear that you're happy with it!
I can see these bikes 10 years from now having never had the oil changed. as a professional mechanic I strongly recommend changing the oil every 3000 miles or every year whichever one comes first. Extended maintenance intervals exist for the convenience of the customer not the health of the machine.
I agree👍
surely it depends on the use of the engine, short rides with an initial cold engine and lots of stop starts will be harder on the oil than longer rides where any moisture is blown out the exhaust, engine oil gets nice and hot and fully circulated.
@@guyr7351 usage does make a difference but extended intervals cause more build-up in the engines which can and does take out things like cam phasers etc. your truck may be running well but I guarantee that there is more junk inside the engine than there would be if you change the oil more often.
please tell us the mileage figures there is a lot o uncertainty around it online as truimph have not disclosed these figures
I’ll show you the average fuel consumption on the clock😀 4pm tomorrow👍
Yes we all want to know the fuel mileage
Thanks for your feedback :)
Sexy bike, Sounds just like an old BMW K75 with the gear wine and triple combo. I am afraid I need something a little bit more comfortable suspension wise, like a CB500X perhaps. Road conditions are bad over here. Love your honest opinion about your bikes, subscribed...
Thanks. A CB500X is way softer than the Trident :)
35yrs old and looking to do my license later this year. It is a great bike but I'm most likely buying second hand as a first bike. Cheers
Good plan. You can try out a few ‘cheap’ bikes first to see what you really like👍
In the video your rear shock-absorber is already in the softest setting. Looks like changing the setting is only going to make firmer.
Ok, thanks. I need to talk to the Triumph mechanic about it next week.
Good video and impressions on the bike.
Thanks 😊
Thank you for information. What is the space under the seat? It is possible to have a first aid kit or a disc lock here?
Almost no space under the seat. A box of matches, if you’re lucky. See last week’s video for details👍
Maybe a question for the next video. Does the red underseat cover need a paint protection film due to debris/dirt coming from the rear tire?
And looking forward to the review of the quickshifter :)
I've waxed the whole bike, but you're right - the rear cowl could probably benefit from some ScotchGard, too :)
Can’t wait👍👍
Not long now😊
Excellent review!
I hope Triumph is watching and makes some tweaks that reflect your inputs, some of which (long reach to the clutch lever, high gas tank cut-outs, ugly plate holder) I have seen on other reviews.
Can you please say where you got that beautiful leather key cover?
Thanks, Werner. There is a link to the key ring in the description of the Mods & Tweaks video :)
As you say, it needs a few tweaks (see next week's video), but it's a great 'little' bike for whizzing around, and that's what i do down here :)
It's just my own preference but I'd love to see MT-09 rear fender/plate holder style equipped on this Trident 660. It will be much cooler than the current one.
I'm waiting to see the aftermarket options available.
in terms of the ride, how does it compares to the CB650R?
Hoping to try the Honda next week
I’m having hard time deciding between trident and Cb650r as first bike.
It would be great to hear your review after trying out Cb650r.
Great video. Thanks for your honesty. I was thinking of trading my CB650R in for the Triumph, I don’t think I’ll bother now.
I have yet to try the 650R, but I if I already had one, I wouldn't bother with the Trident :)
Smart move Mr CB650R. Triumph quality doesn’t come close to Honda’s. I like the look of the CB better as well.
@@HockeyVictory66 cbr 650 is better in my opinion !
cbr 650 is better bike , more power,.. and good quality!
The key holder and loop are awesome. Can you tell me where to get one?
There's a link in one of my 'Trident Mods' videos :)
Thanks, Kristian. You can't go far wrong with the CB500X, a great 'little' bike for commuting. I sometimes regret selling mine :)
Hi, liked your video, but I am interested in the leather keychain cover could you plz shed some light on the make, so sorry for asking a trivial question not pertaining to the bike as such, cheers
No problem. See my Mods & Tweaks Part 1 video, there's a link in the description :)
@@RocketMan_Moto thank you very much 🙏
How would you compare this machine with Street Triple R/Rs in practicality and ride abilities ??
I will probably be fitting some aftermarket adjustable pegs when they're available.
@@RocketMan_Moto Most of the aftermarket pegs / rear sets tend to be higher up and farther back. Main reason I make my own, besides being a cheap bastid.
The red is effect is so you will seen / the black and grey blend with the road!
I agree the red is more visible.
Excellent content! Well done.
Thank you :)
I was concerned about the grips the moment i saw them, why they wouldn’t have put rubber integrated into the design or something I don’t know
I’ve put GripPuppies on😊
@@RocketMan_Moto my apologies I should have said I was concerned about the sidescoops and how grippy the plastic would be
Ah... they’re not grippy at all, but there will be aftermarket solutions soon. It’s a tiny detail I highlighted for objectivity😊
@@RocketMan_Moto yea I just think it’s a shame to put something there and have it be purely aesthetic when they could take care of one of the first and most common aftermarket needs people have by incorporating something grippy in the design. It’s such a pretty bike just as is.
How does it compare with the cb 650 and z 650?
The CB650 is a 4-cylinder so needs revving more (which I don't like), but finish is on a level with the Triumph. Looks a bit more ordinary, though, imo. Haven't tried the Z650, not a Kawasaki fan really :)
Looks a bit like a F900r if money didn't matter how does the trident compare to the f900r
I didn’t like the F900XR’s engine at all. Really boring and agricultural
You probably need to try it to get the definitive answer. The Trident is more than just about speed, though :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I know, I was just trying to imagine the feel of the power riding it
I own a street triple. I was wondering if you’re feeling any heat . I live in a hot climate and the street triple can get quite hot ion the underside of my thighs.
It seems less hot than my ST, but I've not done much in-traffic riding yet and the weather is also relatively cold here at the moment...
And I haven't reset the computer, so the 49mpg probably includes when the bike was being prepared at the dealers
I wonder if the positioning of the clutch lever , being a longer reach, has to do with the location of high beam switch.
Possibly. I've ordered some adjustable levers now :)
I will pick mine up tomorrow! Whoooo
Enjoy (you will!)😊
