"Shades of Reason" is hands down one of my favorite episodes of this arc (yes I prefer this episode over "The Lawless") and my all-time favorite Clone Wars episode overall before we get to Season 7's episodes cause we actually see the side of Maul as someone who is cunning, clever and an overall strategist on wanting to rule Mandalore as a base of his criminal empire without drawing too much attention of the Jedi. Plus his plan during the beginning of the episode was a very brilliant plan as he allows his criminal army (the Black Sun and the Pyke Syndicate) in different sections of Mandalore to cause chaos just to make Satine's government look weak in the eyes of the public, thus leading to Pre Vizsla and his group to save the day and Apprehend the criminals and winning the attention of the citizens which resulted in Satine being imprisoned. Of course, this resulted in Vizsla and his group betraying Maul, but what's interesting is that Maul expected Vizsla's betrayal way earlier in advance before they arrived on Mandalore and while he felt upset about it he seemed pleased with this as his imprisonment along with his brother Savage allowed them to find another replacement for Vizsla which they can use as their Puppet ruler for Mandalore: Almec. The fight between Vizsla and Maul is one of my favorite highlights of the episode and one of my favorite fights in all of Clone Wars and a satisfying end for Pre Vizsla for being such an extremist Zealot Scumbag on his Mandalorian Ideology and how he was portrayed in "A Friend in Need". It even shows us how his soldiers react over the course of the fight until Maul executed Vizsla with some seeming almost entertained, and others looking concerned (Bo-Katan). After Vizsla being executed by Maul and later taking up the Dark Saber, this resulted in Vizsla's Mandalorian Group being splintered into two with those siding with Maul and becoming his own Army for his Shadow Collective (The Mauldalorians) and those who oppose Maul (as they see him as an outsider) and want to just return Mandalore to the old Mandalorian ways and not just some tools for revenge against the Jedi including Obi-Wan (Bo-Katan and her Nite-Owls). Overall, it was a "win" for Vizsla as both him and his group succeeded in ousting Duchess Satine and her pacifistic government. However, this soon became short-lived for as it soon became a win for Maul because he finally found a planet that he can conquer in the shadows for his Criminal Empire while having someone he can use as a puppet ruler publicly (Almec) on Mandalore and having his own Army of Mandalorians. Until Season 7 came out years and years after the show was initially cancelled, this was my favorite arc of The Clone Wars, with The Lawless as my favorite episode of the series. The Sidious vs Maul + Savage fight is great, and the visuals from the Death Watch vs "Maul-dalorian" fights were amazing. The 5x15 plot for taking over Mandalore is solid, but the way it plays out on-screen is definitely some compressed storytelling to put it charitably. Because The Clone Wars was cancelled with the Disney buyout, the story of what Sidious has planned for Maul and how all that plays out is only covered in the "Son of Dathomir" comic miniseries (based off a planned arc of the show that would have come later if it had continued). If you guys don't read it, or at least a synopsis, then there are parts of Season 7 that will be ... let's say a bit confusing, since it picks up after the Son of Dathomir story. The rickety ship is the Twilight, the ship Anakin gets at the very beginning of the show, in the movie that kicked it off and introduced Ahsoka for the first time. The episode of The Mandalorian that introduces live-action Bo-Katan is called "The Heiress" because with Satine dead, she'd be the next in line for the throne - but without getting into spoilers, she still wants the Darksaber to solidify her claim.
clone wars has a lot of legendary moments, but nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than palppatine cackling while having what is essentially a Night Out On the Town for him
If you do decide to read the "Son of Dathomir" comic, you should wait until _after_ you've finished Season 6, as a character from the show dies in that comic but appears in Season 6. If you read it before you see those episodes, you'll be confused as to why a character has suddenly come back to life.
Just an FYI for the Normies, the proper follow-up story to this arc was unfortunately never finished by The Clone Wars creators. It currently only exists as a 4 part comic book series titled "Son of Dathomir", based off of a 4 episode storyline that was written but never finished prior to the series' cancellation. When the series returned for a final season, sadly this arc was not a storyline of the few they chose to complete.
Crazy that Kenobi managed to make 2 of the most baddest Sith villains ever hate him more than anything else. His rivalry with Maul is insane only to lead into Anakin/Vaders hate for him. Also, I understand why Dooku was more afraid of palpatine than the entire jedi order lol man’s is insane and doesn’t even like using lightsabers. I love that they gave him dual wielding sabers in clone wars I wonder why he didn’t whip them out in ROTS
@@AkiraNasuki Oh Ik he had them it just would’ve been awesome to see him use dual wield at some point in the movie. But I get they couldn’t have Ian choreograph that lol
Something I love about how they made Mandalore and the EU material is that after Boba Fett became Mandalore they did become that type of warrior monk society they described here. He said they are not sheep who cannot defend themselves, nor are they starving wolves that devour each other. They are sheep dogs. Protecting those who cannot protect themselves, and showing no mercy to those who come for their pack.
This arc is peak Star Wars. What could have been if we were shown a series about the old times, when the sith hated each other as much as they hated the jedi. And to have a series finale featuring the Rule of Two unfold - chef kiss
First of all, love the reaction! I love seeing people watch this set of episodes for the first time, especially the Maul & Savage VS Palpatine fight, which is fucking incredible As for 26:45, if you remember the Nightsisters enhanced Savage using their magic, so now that he's dying the magic is leaving his body
27:33 This is one of the best lines of Palpatine in clone wars and even in the saga, it covers his entire character, with those words. (And is a great Star Wars meme)
That fight with Sidious was like Vegeta v Frieza when Frieza entered his final form and Vegeta thought he was hot shit, just a complete one sided battle.
God, I forgot how awesome the Brothers of Dathomire might be spelled wrong) vs Palpatine was. Also, yeah, this is where Clone Wars starts going real heavy into the story more than before. I'm really excited to see yalls reactions to S7 and maybe Rebels, obviously only if you want to.
This arc is one of my favorites but this is where the continuation of it ends as when Disney bought the rights for Star Wars, it got discontinued so the rest of the arc was made into a comic, along with other arcs that were planned to be featured in the show.
The scariest thing is that Sidious could have ended the fight with the force but he chose to let loose a bit since for years he has been forced to appear as a non combatant.
Just to let you know Lucas idea for the sequel trilogy was have maul being the godfather of crime with his new apprentice darth talon and she would have been the new darth vader. You can look up images of her online. Would have been interesting, clone wars shows he learned and worked with others like Dave Filoni.
We don't know what his vision for the sequels was. There's another rumour that it involved the microscopic world of the midichlorians, which would have been.....weird.
I feel so bad for Obi-Wan. Maul already took his master, and now the love of his life. I kinda blame Bo-Katan for all of this. I know she didn’t want her sister to die, but humiliated and destroyed her dream. Sidious coming in and fighting Maul and Savage was amazing, he fights like an angry buzzsaw. That second lightsaber he has belonged to his master, Darth Plageius, he took it after killing him in his sleep. And it shows that Sidious is not just watching the Jedi closely, but also dark-siders who could challenge him. This also makes me think of Taron Malicos from Fallen Order, and how he was trying to build an order of Dark Jedi with Nightsister power. If he really did that, you know Sidious would come to shut that shit down.
I've been waiting for this reaction to come out, not only for Pre Visla and Maul fight but also for that second episode where maul kills Satine and then the fight with Sidious
Maul was really calculating in taking the throne from Vizsla. He intentionally restrained himself from using the force in their fight so as not to undermine the results which were supposed to be honorable. By doing that, he ensured that at the very least a majority of the Death Watch Commandos would accept his win and rule because he fought honorably.
Maul using the force to choke out Vizla from across the room would defeat the purpose of beating him. They follow the greater warrior, not someone who cheats in his honor duel. Btw. since Obi Wan protected Satin as a padawan, before Mandalore turned pacifist, the peace could have only been around for a few years. Most people are probably old enough to remember the old days. Almec is old enough to have spent more time as a warrior than a politician.
The body count of these episodes is huge and is the only time Palpitine actually directly involves himself in anything throughout the entirety of the Clone Wars and goes ok play times over die and that’s it. One of the best episodes and fights of the entire show easy
Palpatine was having so much fun going out and fighting someone, using the darkside for something other than obfuscation, he never gets to do that anymore, until ep.3 that is.
When maul was begging for mercy I'm pretty sure he was just begging him to kill him because he knew what he would do to him if he took him prisoner. That's what I've heard at least.
A lot become clear now. So No satine in kenobi becomes clear, why bo wants the weapon that killed her sister to unite the people cause she is their rightful ruler. It non stop craziness😂 also what an amazing send off episode for palps voice actor like y’all said RIP
Something I’ve always forgotten to mention before now, Clancy Brown who’s the voice of Savage Opress played a very similar character/Villain in the first Highlander film called The Kurgan, and yes, Savage is the space Kurgan, LOL. On another note, the deaths of Satine and Savage are reflections of their loved ones. Satine telling Obi-Wan she’ll always love him and Savage telling Maul they’re nothing alike.
My opinion on "The Lawless" has somewhat changed 10 years later, however, I still have mixed reception of this episode as it does have its hills and valleys for various factors so I'll start of with the negatives then move on to the positives of the episode. *NEGATIVES* 1. Sidious Coming To Mandalore after Maul executed Satine: Literally Palpatine/Sidious should've come to the planet when Maul and his army were planning to go after Dooku and the Separatists as part of Maul's revenge quest (of course the comic Son of Dathomir, somewhat covered part of it). Why, because Sidious/Palpatine is literally using the Clone Wars to gain power while behind the scenes being responsible for pulling the strings within the Galactic Republic and the Separatists, and having someone (Maul) try to interfere with his plans would provide better sense to go after Maul instead of just coming to Mandalore the moment Maul executed Satine. Besides, Palpatine doesn't even give a care and had little interaction with Duchess Satine and Mandalore along with the fact Palpatine/Sidious's appearance is very reminiscent to General Grievous' shoehorned appearance in the Young Jedi arc. 2. Bo-Katan being sisters to Satine: I'm going to be upfront and blunt but I did find that element to be very shoehorned cause in the earlier episodes and her debut Bo-Katan was literally against her own sister and wants to overthrow her and later execute her. On top of that it just literally happened out of the blue, there was no tease, no hints, nothing and it kind of makes you wonder if Maul lost to Pre Vizsla and Vizsla was the one who executed Satine would Bo-Katan show any remorse? 3. Yoda and Mundi, party-poopers they all were: Long story short, they were just cowards in not supporting Obi-Wan in providing help or allowing him to go to Mandalore, especially the former, and even Yoda was no better in the next forthcoming episodes set to come. 4. Korki and the cadets: Good lord, why do their character models look so weird. *POSITIVES* 1. Obi-Wan: Obi-Wan's back after literally being absent for two episodes while Sidious owned the episode, it really centers more on Obi-Wan on how he is desperate on trying to save his former lover, plus up until arrival on Mandalore he remains unaware what was going on. My favorite moment is without a doubt Obi-Wan not showing his emotions when Satine is about to be executed by Maul, cause while he knows something bad is about to happen to his former love and shows sadness when she passed away he doesn't actually let his anger, the Dark Side and especially his emotions take over when compared to Anakin. 2. Sidious in the Flesh: Even with the negative I had with Sidious arriving on Mandalore sooner than later, there is no doubt that he stole the entire episode, as well as this being the first time he appeared physically in the flesh after he only previously appeared only as a Hologram in earlier episodes. On top of that, it also serves as one of the final recorded dialogue by Ian Abercrombie before his passing and man did he knocked it out of the ballpark with his performance as Sidious, especially his quote he said to Maul: _"Remember, the first and only reality of the Sith. There can only be two. And you are no longer my apprentice. _*_YOU_*_ have been _*_REPLACED!!"_* 3. The three-way duel of Maul and Savage vs. Darth Sidious 4. Cliffhanger leads to Son of Dathomir (as a Comic). Overall a decent episode I may be in the minority that the episode is *OVERRATED* including the flaws as I prefer "Shades of Reason" over this one, but it was a nice conclusion to the Mauldalore/Shadow Collective arc.
Im internally filled with so much excitement and joy that I could jump off my bed and do full on backflip. I've been waiting months for this batch of episodes.

Remember when Maul said: "We are the true lords of the Sith"? That was an official challenge and the force picked that up. It send the messege to Palpatine that there is a challenger to his rule. As the Sith Lord, Sidious went to challenge Maul for Supremacy. And then only the Strongest stood tall.
This just shows why palpatine is one of the goats of villains.
Yall gotta check out the Son of Dathomir comic, it fills a gap the show didn't get to fill between now and season 7.
36:01 This arc is definitely one of my favorite arcs. And what you said pretty much sums up the feelings you have while watching these episodes.
RIP 3 of the best creation of the entire Clone Wars show...Pre Vizla, Satine Krys and Savage Opress...Great voice actor, story and design, you can't ask for more ! A very nice duo of episodes !!
Pre Vizsla got what he deserved and the bastard had it coming when he got his retribution at the hands at Maul for all the trouble he has caused in the Clone Wars and in "A Friend in Need"
@@EChacon maul isn't a saint lmao 😂
@@Ryanlexz Neither was Pre Vizsla especially the atrocities he committed throughout the Clone Wars and in "A Friend in Need".
@@Ryanlexz So no you and jean-philippe don't deny and justify Pre Vizsla's actions were considered a saint.
@@EChacon He's a war criminal and a bastards...bringing back Mandalore roots could have been done differently, he's not a new Mandalore in crusades !! loll
Maul IS for the first time shown to be afraid....when he senses Palpatine behind door....his voice is is quiet and you can HEAR the fear in his voice, almost all of the PTSD he endured during his training as Sith coming back....no surprise he kneeled down, Maul knew he cant get out of this but yet he still tried to talk his way out....better chances than fighting Palps :D
The episode of The Mandalorian that introduces live-action Bo-Katan is called "The Heiress" because with Satine dead, she'd be the next in line for the throne - but without getting into spoilers, she still wants the Darksaber to solidify her claim.
clone wars has a lot of legendary moments, but nothing puts a bigger smile on my face than palppatine cackling while having what is essentially a Night Out On the Town for him
Seeing what Obi-wan went through with Satine and mirroring that with Padme and Anakin has been one of the many highlights of what Clone Wars has done
If you do decide to read the "Son of Dathomir" comic, you should wait until _after_ you've finished Season 6, as a character from the show dies in that comic but appears in Season 6. If you read it before you see those episodes, you'll be confused as to why a character has suddenly come back to life.
One of the best arcs in The Clone Wars and now you know why.
When the series returned for a final season, sadly this arc was not a storyline of the few they chose to complete.
these are 2 of the best episodes in the entire show
what a ride
RIP Satine and The Twilight
😭😭😭
This arc showed everyone how badass the Clone Wars could be. And Filoni knew how to fully utilize every character to the max.
He has one on body and other concealed and hidden in the statue in the office. He lost one to windu and used the 2nd saber on yoda
They cut it out but
“You can kill me, but you will never destroy me” is my all time favorite obi wan quote
This arc is peak Star Wars. What could have been if we were shown a series about the old times, when the sith hated each other as much as they hated the jedi. And to have a series finale featuring the Rule of Two unfold - chef kiss
Fax wish we could get a Old Republic show if it was put in the cannon
First of all, love the reaction! I love seeing people watch this set of episodes for the first time, especially the Maul & Savage VS Palpatine fight, which is fucking incredible
As for 26:45, if you remember the Nightsisters enhanced Savage using their magic, so now that he's dying the magic is leaving his body
Among the GOAT episodes of TCW. You don't typically cheer for Palpatine, but after what happens to Satine, how can you not?
It’s wild that Marketa likes Sidious but not Vader lmao
Bo Katan's first Mandalorian episode is titled, "The Heiress"
Any Star Wars content with Mandalorians is always fantastic
I love the pure “Oh shit” look Maul has when his former master showed up
The best story arc up to this point. So much tragedy and satisfaction
Now I'm waiting for my next favorite arc, and my favorite character interaction. This Maul, Savage, and Palpatine is a close second though.
27:33 This is one of the best lines of Palpatine in clone wars and even in the saga, it covers his entire character, with those words. (And is a great Star Wars meme)
This is where the fun begins
I would say this is the best arc but the best arc starts next week
Personally think the best arc is the final arc of Clone Wars, but the next one is definitely close
The best arc so far
I was about to say, the arcs from here on out are straight Ws
One out of the three of the craziest arcs (in the best way possible) complete.
4
Maul-Mandalore
Ahsoka (you know the 1)
5s
& Finale-Mandalore
Probably top 5 star wars moments.
That fight with Sidious was like Vegeta v Frieza when Frieza entered his final form and Vegeta thought he was hot shit, just a complete one sided battle.
Really hated how they didn't animate Son of Dathomir arc....
an arc about 2 black girls with hipster haircuts made specifically for that season was for more important /s
I wish they animated it too
Same. Absolute waste.
Pre- Vizla mistake was breaking with them too soon. He should have waited longer before the betrayal.
Fun Fact, Son of Dathomir comic continues where the episode left off.
I wish it was animated
For sure have to watch Rebels and I hope you guys possibly rewatch the original Trilogy when you finish that as well
Everyone who's already seen the show have been waiting forever for these two episodes LMFAO
@@inefekt Not weird. That's exactly what he had Yoda doing in season 6.
The fun part is knowing that when Maul begged for mercy, he wanted Palpatine to kill him because he knows what Palps is capable of…
Every time I hear the line “you have been replaced!” I know damn well Palps isn’t referring to Dooku and it gives me the shivers.
Ah, yes......Clone Wars' "Game of Thrones" episodes. These episodes can give even GRRM a run for his money. And all in less than 45 minutes!
All the Mandalore content is some of the best Star Wars that ever Star Warred
If you want a continuation of Maul's adventures after Sidious catches him, read the Maul: Son of Dathomir comic.
There it is! My favorite lightsaber duel!
“I think this was like the fall of Mandalor”
Oh boy, you ain’t seen nothing yet son!
these two eps are legendary. and it gets even better than this
I absolutely cannot wait for you guys to see what Rebels has in store!
Fun fact: The helmet Kenobi puts on when he lands on Mandalore is based on a piece of Boba Fett concept art.
Now this is Group Reactioning: 20:45
ya'll finally understand why this show matters
I've been waiting for this reaction to come out, not only for Pre Visla and Maul fight but also for that second episode where maul kills Satine and then the fight with Sidious
you might not know it, but you also saw Ian Abercrombie in another serie: he was the old guy who "won" Slayerfest 98
4:41 funny how they say they like that because it’s actually a glitch 😂
Maul was really calculating in taking the throne from Vizsla. He intentionally restrained himself from using the force in their fight so as not to undermine the results which were supposed to be honorable. By doing that, he ensured that at the very least a majority of the Death Watch Commandos would accept his win and rule because he fought honorably.
All the best shit happens in the Mandalorian Throne Room
It was written in the official data books that maul is actually more powerful than dooku at his peak so micky actually has the right idea😅
I like how they say Satine is the only redhead on Mandolore and then are surprised when Bo Katan is her sister...the only other redhead lol
Also Palps hasn't replaced Maul with Dooku.... He has been replaced by... *imperial March intensifies*
Pre Vizla was voiced by John Favreau who did "The Mandalorian" Series with Dave Filoni who did clone wars. He plays Happy in the MCU.
My opinion on "The Lawless" has somewhat changed 10 years later, however, I still have mixed reception of this episode as it does have its hills and valleys for various factors so I'll start of with the negatives then move on to the positives of the episode.
*NEGATIVES*
*POSITIVES*
_*_YOU_*_ have been _*_REPLACED!!"_*
3. The three-way duel of Maul and Savage vs. Darth Sidious
I've been waiting for the reaction to this amazing arc for long but now it's finally happening!!!!
I would literally kill to get a three part live action movie of maul’s ark
Naw this shit hard, Palpy is literally having fun & he’s literally a wizard. Y’all will see… 😂
still remember how a few episodes back chris said it was impossible for maul to get the darksaber how little he knew lol
Yoda really meant it when he said Obi wan wasn't strong enough to fight Palpatine.
24:05 Is one of my favourite shots in all of Clone Wars.
Believe it or not, but this show still gets even better
I am both excited and sad for the next 4 episodes.
16:44 thank you Micky for saying that because they really are
Was waiting for them to see this, cause this was just peak Clone Wars.
Im internally filled with so much excitement and joy that I could jump off my bed and do full on backflip. I've been waiting months for this batch of episodes.
And if it wasn't already clear that this is not just a show for kids ep 104 definitely nails it down
The beginning of the end next week!! Can’t wait for your reaction for the MOST unforgotten episodes 😭😭❤️
11:00
Visla blinds maul, makes him use his saber, disarms him, and moves in for the kill in one fell swoop. This is why the Jedi destroyed Mandalore's atmosphere. They're too dangerous to be left alive.
