Every year the CBC Music should hold a mini festival dedicated to Downie and Hip, with all proceeds going towards cancer research. And of course stream it for us Canadians.
The problem with that is, money doesn't go towards the research end for cancer. It goes into the greedy corporate pockets. Billions of dollars raised towards finding a cure for cancer, yet they are no closer than they were 20 years ago. If they did find a cure, people would quit donating their hard earned money and people would quit getting rich. I've lost family to cancer, including my mother, but I would never donate a cent to the cancer research foundation.
It should go to the Gord Downie fund to help truth and reconciliation because that would truly mean something great to Gord. I must agree though that there should certainly be an annual festival for charity.
Big ups to the CBC for interrupting Olympic coverage and bringing this moment in time to Canadians and fans all over the world to share. Things like this are the whole reason we have a public broadcaster!
Some will understand... even in Europe. The Hip is the reason I bought myself a Canadian flag. It was 1991 when I saw them for the first time in Holland (and after that I saw 23 shows all over Europe). Canada means a lot to me. The village where I grew up and still live (in Belgium) was liberated by the Canadians in 1944. And I'm maintaining th graves of Canadian WW1-soldiers in Flanders Fields too... I really know how a lot of Canadians feel right now. And I think I feel the same way too. Much love from Belgium. P.
It was one of the ugliest and most shocking things I ever saw. And I've seen a lot. I was in a downtown pub right at the bar ordering drinks and heard the group of people next to me throwing around the n word like candy at a parade. When I called them on it, turned out they were as sexist as they were racist. Frankly, they were very disturbed people, seething with anger and hatred and ignorance. It emanated from them like perfume gone rancid. What I saw at the Hip concert was the polar opposite of that.
Another UK fan here. The Hip have been my lockdown discovery. I'm rationing their albums and listening to a new one every couple of months. I'm a lucky guy as I've still got everything from Fully Completely to properly explore! A truly awesome band and it still blows my mind I've only just discovered them.
+Daniel Prime I was talking about tho whole show on CBC, over 2 hours without adds, I never saw that before on CBC... don't worry it will be on tube soon
Daniel thought Hocmaster was talking about how CBC didn't place ads on the video, not during their broadcast. Which was the right thing to do considering the occasion.
Our little restaurant in Nova Scotia had everyone gathered in a giant huddle by the bar watching on the back wall with the volume turned up all the way. Staff and customers crying and singing together. I will never forget this ever
I love the lyrical mashups over this entire concert "I looked up to the lord above and said hey Gordie thanks" Thats right Gord, for this night, you were! Much love!!!
6 years ago today I was in Newfoundland with family and we all watched, sang and enjoyed the final concert together as did all Canadians. There will never be another band like The Tragically Hip or another front man like Gord. They embodied everything it meant to be Canadian with their music and Canadian stories.
I was working at a casino that night, I left a note in the crew room when this song comes on LET ME KNOW!!!! One of the card dealers popped in to let me know. It's the one and only Hip song I love I cried the whole time! Ya could tell the boys were trying to hold it together the whole time
I remember listening to the entire show on Sirius xm. Was camping with my family, we all sat in awe knowing it would be the last live performance. Every encore was better than the last. I’ll never forget it.
So first off, RIP Gordie. You and the Hip are just another wonderful Canadian thing that makes me happy I'm from Washington State. NOIS is a kind of a weird song for me personally. See, I did a combat tour in Central America back in the bad ol' days of Reagan era gunboat diplomacy. And I have never heard a song encapsulate trying to explain that experience quite so well as, "Ain't got no picture postcards, ain't got no souvenirs, My baby, she don't know me when I'm thinkin' 'bout them years..."
Watched the stream from downtown Fredericton with countless others. One of the biggest concerts the city has ever seen, and the band wasn't even here. Thanks Gord and CBC!
I've never been so happy and so sad watching a concert in my life. Truly the very definition of bittersweet. Thanks for letting Gord and the guys go out with such a bang, CBC. Please rethink not putting the whole thing on TH-cam. I'm still buying the DVD anyways.
+mike nelson being a Cancer survivor and one of a rare cancer i think this would be a great way for fans to payback for years of entertainment and a great tribute to his legend
dont feel bad its wonderful!! This was a fabulous event....I have not seen it as was not near a tv when it was happening but i can feel the energy and love my many watching and seeing posts and clips
around the time when this concert was on. there were a lot of us bands still playing out there live. I know I was doing a gig when this was on tv. a lot of us younger bands have everything we owe to these guys for making the Canadian music scene great. They paved the way for us all. I'll always remember them as the best.
I am from Australia and have been a Hip fan since Road Apples. It was Sunday morning here and just chanced upon a note on Rolling Stone website about the webcast and realized it was NOW! Fired up You Tube on the tele and oh what a glorious Sunday morning we had, only missed the first 20 minutes. Had always wanted to see The Hip live and it was the next best thing to being there. Amazing experience.
Here a Hipfan from the Netherlands. Tears in my eyes as I watch these great clips of my alltime favorite band for 20 years now. Their energy has always been contagious. Saw them twice in Utrecht (the Netherlands). Best concerts I ever went to. I so hoped te be able to see another. The full concert would indeed be much appriciated.
Thank you CBC!!!!! one of the finest broadcast you folks have ever done!!!!! Thank You, Thank You Thank You!!!!!! p.s. Get working on the DVD for us ASAP!!!!!!
Was truly lucky to have seen the Tragically Hip along with The Rolling Stone's in Moncton New Brunswick... Love and light sending your way Gordon.. Your a beautiful spirt 🕉️☄️😢✌️
Was truly luck to see these guys in Moncton New Brunswick along with The Rolling Stone's... Live and light to you Gordon.. Your truly a beautiful spirt
I saw the HIP at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver (another Roadside Attraction ), I don't remember what year, but it was an amazing all day event. I was so tired at the end of their long closing set i started to leave but before i made it to the exit, they came back onstage and wailed through Little Bones. When G.D passed on, I could have cried but then I thought back to that day and felt like he wouldn't have wanted me to cry. The HIP were one of a kind, we were so lucky to be there.
Hi all. In regards to watching it again or for those who missed the live broadcast. We're sad to report the CBC only had the rights to broadcast and stream the live event so it's no longer available online and there will be no digital or on-demand versions available on our platforms. Very sorry. :(
My introduction to the Hip was this tune. Weasel played it on WHFS in the Maryland subs of Washington DC, one of the best radio station in history before it was sold, and sold and sold again. This was a LONG time ago...prob 89-91 or so. No other FM rock station would play something this good. They were too busy playing CRAP. Man am I OLD! Now stay off of my lawn!
Can everyone asking them to post the full concert please understand that the CBC doesn't own the rights to this performance? They were only allowed to broadcast the live event. They can not legally show it again, online or on TV, and they can't reproduce it on Blu-ray or DVD. If you missed it, you missed it.
Thank you CBC so so much for streaming this! Had an amazing time watching it at the local hockey arena. It was an incredibly special night for all of us. PLEASE make it available for download!
sign the campaign to get Gord Downie awarded the Order of Canada. Please pass this onto all your friends. Post it on all social media. Let's make this happen www.change.org/p/governor-general-david-johnston-let-s-honour-gord-downie-with-the-order-of-canada
+Kyuss well they did broadcast the whole show without adds and that nationwide! they sucks so much for doing that to us. ( that I would say if it was Nickelback)🎵
Thank you Gord and the Hip for allowing our nation to celebrate and grieve in your last performance. After seeing them at Ottawa Bluesfest one year prior it is sad the difference in performances from Downie, but you gave one hell of a concert, playing all the classics, and going for three hours. Thank you for your music. You will never be forgotten
alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight , seen them once in new brunswick Moncton great show. i almost got booted out the concert for blazing derbs mon!
I'm in Japan , I only managed to see half of one song because I was traveling. when I finally got a chance to watch it was just starting the post concert show. I am absolutely gutted! I robbed myself from something I wanted to share with my country since the Hips songs have meant so much to my life as a Canadian. please CBC, let us watch the entire concert. Not all of us were able to stream it live. Thanks from Kochi, Japan!
+Neil G. I saw that. My guess is that they are protecting their property as this was a CBC production, and they are also protecting the band's interests in the copyrighted material.
Thanks for sharing this. I saw the Tragically Hip in London, England, in 2013 for Canada Day celebrations. They are an iconic Canadian band. #CourageForGord
What are your best memories of Gord and the Hip?
CBC Music Please post the full concert. Thanks
Listening to them with my dad
giving GD a Bobby Orr record, under the stands at the Pacific Coliseum Nov 2000
Watching this concert in The Green Dragon pub in Toronto with friends
Misty Moon in Halifax 1990!
Every year the CBC Music should hold a mini festival dedicated to Downie and Hip, with all proceeds going towards cancer research. And of course stream it for us Canadians.
Great idea!
That would be an amazing idea and I hope someone who has the power to organize that either sees this post or realizes it's a great idea on their own.
+T Money Exactly.. and "Where's all the money, Jerry?"
It should go to the Gord Downie fund to help truth and reconciliation because that would truly mean something great to Gord. I must agree though that there should certainly be an annual festival for charity.
Well done to CBC for hosting the entire show commercial free for all of Canada. What an amazing night for this entire nation. All of the love.
wrong, that's our tax money being put to use
+Kasket007 wrong
no u
+Kasket007 wrong again

Big ups to the CBC for interrupting Olympic coverage and bringing this moment in time to Canadians and fans all over the world to share. Things like this are the whole reason we have a public broadcaster!
I was tickled pink to see Ron McLean introduce the concert. Such a Canadian moment!
+sherpajones I had thought that either Dan Akryoyd or Don Cherry would have introduced the band since they are from Kingston
A true seminal moment in Canadian history. Not exaggerating. Other people from other countries will not understand, but we Canadians do.
Oh please people are passionate about music no matter what country you're from..
I think he just meant other countries may not understand the significance of the last show.
+ITHEREONETHATHASNT London Ontario, the only place I ever saw racist skinheads proclaim their ignorance publicly.
Man!! He was dying but took the time to do this just for us!!! From A very proud Canadian.
Western New Yorker here. One of the best I’ve ever scene live. Rest in piece Gord!
Thumbs up from N. Tonawanda
RIP Gord Downey, a true Canadian HERO. What a legend.
Another UK fan here. The Hip have been my lockdown discovery. I'm rationing their albums and listening to a new one every couple of months. I'm a lucky guy as I've still got everything from Fully Completely to properly explore! A truly awesome band and it still blows my mind I've only just discovered them.
Big Respect to the cbc for not putting adds!
this whole thing is an ad for them. also they get paid by taxpayer money, ad money on youtube would be nothing compared to that
+Daniel Prime I was talking about tho whole show on CBC, over 2 hours without adds, I never saw that before on CBC... don't worry it will be on tube soon
Daniel Osah they aired it live without a single ad. No rebroadcasts, no ads. You are wrong.
Daniel thought Hocmaster was talking about how CBC didn't place ads on the video, not during their broadcast.
Which was the right thing to do considering the occasion.
Well its a government run operation, so by doing so it's costing you (assuming your canadian) more
Some of us South of the Canadian border are fans. This was a fantastic way way to go out. Don't think some down here would get it.
Awesome!
I swear every TV in Canada was turned on to this concert !
He was brilliant until the end. 👍
Our little restaurant in Nova Scotia had everyone gathered in a giant huddle by the bar watching on the back wall with the volume turned up all the way. Staff and customers crying and singing together. I will never forget this ever
I live in Atlanta GA and was able to watch the whole concert and to be part of the experience - THANK YOU CBC from Hip fans south of the border!
That's not true, most Phish & Ween fans 33 and older are very familiar with their music..
I love the lyrical mashups over this entire concert
"I looked up to the lord above and said hey Gordie thanks"
Thats right Gord, for this night, you were! Much love!!!
The literal last performance of this song. What a band.
I watch this alot..what a strong man!! And a good man!
A legend!
CBC please rebroadcast this magical night when all of this madness is over to bring Canadians back together so we can celebrate life in general!
One of my favorites. Gord Downie was on another level.
6 years ago today I was in Newfoundland with family and we all watched, sang and enjoyed the final concert together as did all Canadians. There will never be another band like The Tragically Hip or another front man like Gord. They embodied everything it meant to be Canadian with their music and Canadian stories.
Monsters. Some of the best sound ever! Gord ran it right to the end and did it his way to the final note.
I Was at this concert and you can see me have a moment with Gordie when looked my way and I fish hooked him and he did it back ....best ever
We should all be so lucky to leave the planet in such style...
Wow this is an awesome story. Thank you for sharing!
Gordy baby.
Buddy, you can.
Live all the rest of your days as fully as you can.
We all should.
No one will ever replace him!

RIP...Beautiful Human...Thanks for sharing yourself with the world.
I'm 100% certain that's the only man alive who can play that lick correctly.
The looks on the bandmembers faces when they play make me want to cry.
Watched the stream from downtown Fredericton with countless others. One of the biggest concerts the city has ever seen, and the band wasn't even here. Thanks Gord and CBC!

Yes, please release the full concert! Please?! I'm a Canadian living in Europe and despite trying to stay up to watch online streaming, fell asleep :(

I vote for a DVD of the concert, too!
My thanks to the CBC last night, they did an excellent job,
Got to see the hip many times in Tucson. Saw them open for page/plant in Phoenix. Awesome band. Good luck gord.
Trippy to think this was the final time Gordo ever sang this song.
Sadly true
Epic, a beauty, what a show.
The voice....I cry deeply...I miss Gord so Fn much...LEGACY... man!
Canada is Wayne, and Gord!! God bless you Gord!!
The Hip and canada will always be one......LONG LIVE THE HIP!!!
RIP Gord! Thank you!
Thank you CBC... you're the best... really!!
Thank you to whoever threw a line out to Gord at 1:56.
He's enjoying the eternal life but we miss him 🙏😇🇨🇦
A man who knew he was about to die. So he did this. amazing. never seen in entertainment history
Spine tingling!
Thank you Thank you Thank you CBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
please post the full concert
Its okay. I found it on the net, but if they ever release it on disc ill be buying a copy. Its too damn important to not see it.
+Kyuss well they did broadcast the whole show without adds and that nationwide! they sucks so much for doing that to us. ( that I would say if it was Nickelback)🎵
CBC should release the show on DVD/Blu Ray with a majority of proceeds going to brain cancer research
yessssss awesome idea.
Terrific idea if they have the ongoing rights - hope they do.
I don't think the CBC has the rights, but I'd be surprised if The Hip themselves don't release it.
CBC only had rights to the live stream, any rebroadcast/DVD rights belong to the band and it's up to them.
They should rebroadcast it!
Really enjoying their stuff, never heard of them before today's news in the UK, that's what brought me here, respect.
Love the reference to the Killer Whale Tank version at 1:58.
please post the full concert, i had to go to a wedding and missed it. but i want to watch it right now!
Damn, I would've skipped MY OWN wedding for this show!
speerzy11 it's available for purchase on thehip.com
Just saw it today.
Goosebumps man. I was there
EVERYTHING !!!
Tell me the full concert is on its way!
THE BEST!!!!!!!
OMG MY FAVE ❤️
I never saw the original Hip but ci did see a tribute band MY GOD AMAZING
crazy! gave me goosebumps the whole concert!
Love ya Gord! Thanks for all the great tunes over the years and being a part of the soundtrack of our lives. Tragically Hip Rules - Forever❤🍁❤
This is THE Tragically Hip song.
They wrote many tunes jamming on improvisations of this song (including Nautical Disaster.)
Hip Forever!
alriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight , seen them once in new brunswick Moncton great show. i almost got booted out the concert for blazing derbs mon!
He was fabulous
He was truly one of a kind.🌟
Sends chills down my spine listening to this again
I'm in Japan , I only managed to see half of one song because I was traveling. when I finally got a chance to watch it was just starting the post concert show. I am absolutely gutted! I robbed myself from something I wanted to share with my country since the Hips songs have meant so much to my life as a Canadian. please CBC, let us watch the entire concert. Not all of us were able to stream it live. Thanks from Kochi, Japan!
Put the entire concert online please
They should. There are lot of people that would have loved to see it!
I'd buy the mastered DVD.
someone did, then CBC blocked the videos
+Neil G. I saw that. My guess is that they are protecting their property as this was a CBC production, and they are also protecting the band's interests in the copyrighted material.
It was not, it was an insight production and they own the rights.
Always remembered
Thanks for sharing this. I saw the Tragically Hip in London, England, in 2013 for Canada Day celebrations. They are an iconic Canadian band. #CourageForGord
thank you Gord.
