    Love both for different reasons.
1982 = music, villain, cast, atmosphere.
2049 = script, cinematography, nostalgia done right.

      Vangelis passed away in 2022.
He was still alive when BR2049 was released, so I wish he would have been in charge of the song as a posthumous work.

The greatest honor of my life was meeting both Syd Mead, Futurist designer and had his three autographed concept art booklets and on a separate occasion Vangelis in LA after his one and only North American concert. He took photos with me and autographed the concept program. I had every one of his albums. Both were wonderful people, artists and created the future in visual and music. No one can surpass their creativity, they were originals and masters of their art. Blade Runner enthusiasm has been with me since seeing the first movie in 1982….Miss both of them.

The original film was a masterpiece. Best direction, best vfx, best acting.. and best music.. way ahead of its time... 2049.. was really good buy nothing compares to the original..

The original movie and any movie or music will always have its own beauty due to the relativity that led up to it. Now a days, the directors copy movies and use shadow relativity while using their own vision. The Copy Cats use Zeta Vision to create. They create from another person’s vision. .. …
If a person can have a vision that is beyond the creator’s vision then the creation will surpass the beauty of the original, which rarely happens.
One song that surpasses the original for me is “All along the watchtower” redone by Jimi Hendrix. And movie wise “Cape Fear.”

I love them both, but as someone who was born years and years and years after the original was released, I feel a lot more emotionally attached to 2049. Whether that's because the story is more compelling to me, or just because I got to watch it in theaters five times, who can say.

2049 was a good sequel to BR.
Outside of very, very select few sequels that can surpass a classic original, 2049 kept true to the lore and backdrop while finding a way to tell its own story.
It would be interesting to see a third film, so long as it continues to respect the lore. But it isn't craving it.

2049 was a decent movie, but no where near the Sci-fi classic of 1982. It was stunningly original and very well acted. Another Ridley Scott winner.

    • @MorpheusOne

In my opinion, they made a series of bad choices that robbed the movie of what it needed to be a worthy sequel. Most importantly, I think is the fact that they waited far, FAR, far too long to make it.
Another is that Ridley Scott got cold feet & choose not to direct. Denis Villanueva may or may not be a fine director; but, he was never half the director that Ridley Scott, at least, was. This caused Evangelos Odysseas Papathanassiou, i.e., 'Vangelis', to back out of the sequel. And any possibility of that situation ever being smoothed over or rectified died with him; he died!
So, they bungled it. They really screwed it up.

Errrm, hate to be picky about it, but it should be 2019 vs 2049, the years the films are set. To be even pickier about things, sure go ahead and call it 1982 vs 2017. But don't mix the dates of things.
