CB500X - Solo Norway trip Part 19 - Reaching Lofoten Islands

- This is Part 19 of my trip continuing the journey through Norway, leaving Boda behind, I boarded a ferry to the Moskenes on the Lofoten Islands reaching them in the afternoon, bit of a grey but at least dry day. Interesting to see what I believe to be fish drying racks in the towns and found a great camp site, Lofoten Beach Campsite, busy but plentiful facilities. I took a day off from riding any distance but briefly visited Nusfjord on a rainy and cloudy day, picturesque, it didn't inspire me to stop for a stroll around.
The whole journey took me through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and into Norway right the way up to Nordkapp, the furthest point you can travel by motorcycle or car in mainland Europe and then back through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France over a 7 week period late May - mid July 2023
I am back in the UK now, but please do add your comments and I'll get back to you.

Me too! Finding the time is going to be challenging tho, no way i could make it as relaxed as Nick. Plus i'm going from Spain, not the UK so it's quite a few extra kms. Everything can be done with proper preparation however :]
It's idyllic, wish I could do it too!
That is a large amount of stunning scenery all packed into 55km! Wow.
Absolutely!

Always amuses me when you get to these far flung places on a humble little 500cc, sub 7k Honda to be surrounded by the 20k two wheel buses.
Enjoying the vids and look forward to the next instalment 🙂
🤣 Mind you... the cyclists probably think much the same of anything with an engine 😉
Nick
Wonder what the hikers think?
If it were me i will be getting Stendhal syndrome every day. Dear god Norway is gorgeous @_@
🤣 I had to look that one up! Yep, truly lovely.
Nick
Fantastic, I wish I had the time and money to go on a trip like this.
Many thanks... retirement has some benefits 😉
Nick
This is amazing. You are very lucky to have such an opportunity.
I was indeed, I loved the trip. Thanks for commenting.
Nick
Can't believe how good the weather is up there at this time of year.
Absolutely! I was so lucky with this trip, in the past I've been a bit of a rain magnet, but not on this one 😊
Nick
I've got a 16 day trip into Morocco planned for spring next year - if I can achieve half the vlogging / video / banter / quality that you've done, I'll call it a win. Thank you matey, your vids are much appreciated.
Many thanks for your kind words and I hope you really enjoy your trip next year1

I was there last year, and the boarding of the ferry to Moskenes was indeed very chaotic. So much so that I was never charged. It was a very choppy crossing though but so worth it as you no doubt discovered. I stayed at the same camp site on my first night there. The evening/night sunset (or lack of) was spectacular
I was lucky I enough to have a smooth crossing, and yes, a wonderful place. Thanks for the comment and your memory
Nick
The Lofoten Islands look almost otherworldly. Trying to imagine what living there year round would be like. I see you survived the “voyage” from the mainland. Looking forward to next week’s installment. Cheers, Jim
Hi Jim, it was a very smooth crossing on a very large vessel so all good. Lofoten islands were a joy to behold. Many thanks for the comment Jim.

Norway is such a huge place with so many stunning roads, this is a terrific series. Hopefully you survived the ferry crossing okay. I must say being on the sea does not bother me and in fact quite like it :)
@blearyview2254, it is indeed a huge place, I'm glad I had the time not to rush it. Yep, the crossing was fine thanks... hats off to those who can enjoy the motion on a ship!

Fantastic video Nick! I'm curious about the extent to which you find a 360 camera useful, as you primarily use helmet-mounted footage in the video. I personally prefer the shots with the motorcycle, rather than a pure road video.
Good question! I must admit I made a huge mistake with the handlebar positioning of the Insta360 on the long selfie stick. While I was away, I made the decision not to edit, which unfortunately means I didn't notice how much of a distraction it was when using the helmet mounted GoPro footage. So, to answer your question... it is useful for rear and side facing views from the bike, but I agree, forward facing is a bit disjointed. However, I'm a bit stuck now, the Insta is where it is... getting in the way, so if there is no Insta footage at all, I have to stick with the GoPro and put up with the selfie stick getting in the way, if there is Insta footage I tend to use that just to overcome this.
Even if I'd stuck with the short handlebar mount for the Insta, I have found editing in the Insta footage a huge overhead and wish I'd gone for another GoPro for the handlebar. I will probably do a lessons learned nearer the end to include my thoughts on the cameras I used.
As per usual for me, a waffly answer, hope it makes sense, and yes I agree with the view including the dash etc.
Nick
I suppose in winter they are low photon islands.
🤣🤣🤣 Very clever!!!!
