CB500X - Solo Norway trip Part 22 - Nordkapp!! Just a tick in the box?

  • This is Part 22 of my trip continuing the journey through Norway, Today I left the little campsite at Ovre Alta and headed off to Nordkapp about 150 miles away. The blue skies had returned and the ride was lovely. I made a bad decision on a fuel stop, passing one in favour of another 23KM nearer Nordkapp, but when I got there it had run out of fuel, so I needed to backtrack, luckily only 23km, so 46Km extra, but hey ho. Spotted some porpoises in a bay from the road which hugs the coastline.
I reached Nordkapp, and decided to enjoy the moment rather than capturing much on video, it is a long way from the UK on my route (6,500 KMs / 4,000 miles) but the scenery along the way was beautiful and absolutely stunning in places. A fabulous day all in all.
Nordkapp is more than just a "tick in the box" but there are so many fabulous sights in Norway, personally, I wouldn't worry about not visiting Nordkapp specifically, just enjoy the ride wherever you may end up.
The whole journey took me through the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and into Norway right the way up to Nordkapp, the furthest point you can travel by motorcycle or car in mainland Europe and then back through Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, Belgium and France over a 7 week period late May - mid July 2023
I am back in the UK now, but please do add your comments and I'll get back to you.
Hoping you can "Like" the video, as this does help the channel.
All my best wishes, thanks again for watching
    Nick

This is my favorite moto-vlog on TH-cam. Your calm voice and narration make the trip more enjoyable. I also appreciate that you don't edit out the tiny foibles... such as failing to gas up and then having to drive back to station you had previously passed up. Thanks for including us on your adventure, friend.

Many thanks for your kind words and encouragement, I'm glad you enjoy the vlog, there are some bloopers I edit out though 😊 Thankyou for travelling along with me

Enjoying your video of this mega tour, well done. I was looking at a CB500X for touring, which was the first reason I started watching your channel. But because of arthritis in my hands (worse in my left hand) I chose an NC750X DCT semi-automatic instead
I worked for Bosch, Germany for 29 years, but was based in The Netherlands. I travelled all over Europe including Scandinavia which is another reason why your video caught my eye. Seeing you missing the opportunity to get fuel when you picked up a hot dog had me shouting at the screen “fill up….fill up” 😂😂
It reminded me of some the rules I use to follow when travelling in unknown areas……
Fill the fuel tank if you get a chance, the next station could be closed or empty
Use your card for purchases and save the cash for when you can’t
If you get a chance to eat - take it. You may get delayed and not be able eat at your next overnight stop
If there’s a loo, use it, even if you think you don’t need to go……
Looking forward to the rest of your journey, perfect for these wet, cold non riding days here in the UK

Many thanks @thematlockbiker for your comments, thoughts and your "rules". Sorry to hear about the arthritis, it sounds like the NC was a good choice.
Yes... I got a bit nonchalant about fuel... lesson learned! and I
love your "rules", all make perfect sense, especially the last one 😊
      Glad you're enjoying the series

Another enjoyable video Nick. The weather really cooperated with you that day. The journey is almost always the highlight unless you have to ride Interstates (A roads) and if you pick the right secondary/back roads. Looking forward to the next episode. Cheers, Jim

If like me, on longer journeys, it gives me the time and space to think. The nice relaxed pace means you get to see more things. Rare, these days, that we get to see and appreciate the world around us and beyond our everyday routes. The little CB keeps faithfully taking you along the journey.

Well, even so it was a big box to tick, Nick. And you got to do some reindeer herding to follow, which is a box to be ticked in itself. Hope you have a good Christmas and the New Year finds you ready for fresh adventures.

Another great series of roads and the day enhanced by some perfect riding weather! Range anxiety is such a personal thing....I start to suffer when I drop below three 'blobs' but others will happily go onto reserve tank. I will look forward to your future episodes. Seasons Greetings!🌲

Maybe but this type of trip would be made more interesting by the inclusion of minor roads and visits to towns and places with a bit of history, including short walking tours around places of interest. Personally I’m finding this highway tour from campsite to campsite somewhat boring. Sorry Nick but I hope you take my criticism as constructive for future rides. In the meantime I’ll continue watching!

    • @bikingtravels
      @bikingtravels  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Fair comments @neilurquhart8622, I must admit my days off were also mainly "leave the camera behind" aka being lazy. There are a few episodes where I've included walkabouts, typically at the end, but they are indeed scarce. Thanks for sticking with it!

@@bikingtravels I am the other way, its a bike trip, and I prefer the view from the bike, its as if I was there and riding it. There are plenty of coach tour videos on the web, but suffice to say, I don't watch them. 😉

Nordkapp was like the high street, so busy. Some fantastic scenery (again) and I would say it definitely the journey rather than the destination but certainly a big tick in the box. Any thoughts on what trip you may take in 2024 because this one is a hard act to follow. Merry Christmas Nick.
