So this is my review on the Nikon 50mm f1.2 lens. I did also use the Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens as well and all this vintage Nikon glass still works great. Make sure to like and subscribe!

The lens in this video is serial number 344790. Nikon switched to improved lens coatings (Super Integrated Coating or "SIC") in the year 2000 or 2001 (serial numbers starting around 35xxxx). SIC versions will have improved flare resistance and contrast over the older "NIC" (Nikon Integrated Coating) versions.

Great video. I have that f 1.2 50 mm Nikon and it looks and feels wonderful. RS. Canada

I used this lens more often than nikkor 85mm f1.4 ais. This is what i feel about nikon 50mm f1.2 ais

I own both or should I say three of the 50mm Nikkors. I really like the 50mm range for most general work. At this time, the difference in price is not that big a deal so that is a wash. I shoot both film and digital. I use cameras like the Df, D810, D850, F100, F5, and F6 as well as FM2n. My other Nikon F's are semi retired. In low light on film, getting the widest aperture is sometimes important while digital sensors don't really need this. Artistically, the f1.2 lens has some advantages because of its character. Having it on my camera adds weight so I don't use it unless I want its feature set. Going to an f2 makes more sense for street, travel as it is a compact package. It is also the sharpest 50mm Nikkor ever made. So, it all depends on what I'm doing at the time.

Thanks for the insight! This is helping me make a decision about which lens I should buy next.

as someone who owns a 50mm 1.4 i couldnt justify getting the 1.2. however i did pick up the very old nikon 55mm 1.2 which has a fantastic softer rendering at 1.2, very dreamy

Thing is, if you don't need to buy one BRAND NEW, the price of the 1.2 isn't prohibitive. I picked up mine for less than $200 on Craigslist.

I agree that most often then not the 50mm 1.2 lenses disappoint more than they don't wide open. However, I still love a 50 1.2 ;)

I was looking at the canon dream lens f0.95 way to much lens, I would have no use for it but would love to have it!

Does that mean you are going to sell it or keep it? Can't wait to see the multi-lens camera video.

Probably going to sell them, I don’t have a need for at least one of them right now!

@@AimShootDevelop Money better spent on film for sure! Do you reckon you might get the 50mm 1.4 with the money from the sale?

@@hotpinkbulb i for sure need to fund some more camera projects, I’ve been eyeing the 50mm 1.4 autofocus models and they are looking pretty good right now!

I still shoot film with my F3hp and keep thinking about this lens to replace my very old non AI 50mm F1.4. But now i am seriously looking at the 85mm F1.4 Nikon ais instead. The 1.2 just doesn’t really do anything much different than my 1.4.

    • @AimShootDevelop

I would recommend the 85mm as it’s a great overall lens. I’m big on portraits and it’s a great lens to have!
