I'm glad you liked it. You'll see that there are some that don't like it in the other comments on the video but I think you just need to be aware that you're not getting the sharpness you'd expect from modern glass, particularly at f/1.2 . But despite it arguably still being expensive for what it is, I do like the way it renders.
Love the vibe of this video! I looked up the music you had listed, but it's not what's playing in your video. Would really like to get hold of the actual music in the video. Thanks in advance.
Glad you liked it. There are a couple of pieces of audio in the music and frustratingly they can be found under different names depending on where you get the license. Check out th-cam.com/video/3IoZG6LSbc0/w-d-xo.html for the music from the daytime shots and pixabay.com/music/beats-metabolit-124939/ for the evening music.
I don't even think about diffraction on the streets. The other variables will impact sharpness before that does. For critical stuff, I've shot to f/11 without any issues and I suspect you don't see any real-world diffraction until at least f/16.
love the review & the jokes! also the music that starts at around 1:30 & keeps on going for awhile could you recall its name? I've looked through the library of songs you mentioned in the description but nothing matches the one in your video :(
Goddam! The camera, the lens and the film made you sing on this vid. Some really nice photos and interesting video. Tip of the hat. In B/W this lens is nostalgic. It so reminds me of my great error in getting rid of my Pentax pancake 40mm. The film grain and the image quality is spectacular. Since I have limited myself to Pentax only, I am on the search for a 1.2, explore reviews and maybe make a jump to purchase. Thank you for this video, I really feel inspired.
Now that is what I call street photography. Love that color with the film. Cinematic indeed. Great story, POV, photos, music and love those new transitions.. speed ramping?.. Ill need to copy that trick 😅
To your "should I sell it to treat yourself to a modern lens" question, it's always relative to your frequency of use. If it brings "fun" as you so put it in many other videos to your practice, I'd keep it. If not, do cherish the past times spent with it and carry on with the new. Or if you can afford it, it remains a great memento. I kept my Zeiss ZF.2 Planar 50 1.4 and Voigtlander Ultron 40 f2 for that purpose alone. Modern lenses from the very end of the dSLR era (not the early OTUS/ART ones) evolving in the mirrorless era have subverted the flat crisis of earlier high-element designs thx to improvements in AR Coating, glass manufacturing and computer assisted designs. So the argument that 3D is exclusive to low-element count holds less weight today than it did before (it still does! but much less). The Z 50 1.8S at 400g of weight is exceptional, I wouldn't go 1.2 unless the physical setup is required to achieve some specific shots I want.
Thanks! I've heard great things about the 50 1.8S. I've got the 35 and 85, so maybe I need to in-fill that focal length. One thing's for sure, though, I won't be selling the older f/1.2 to fund it. It's too unique.
Harsh! I definitely agree that the f/1.2 look is too soft to be practical in many situations but from F/2 it's pretty darn good. Totally agree about the inflated price though! Thanks for watching.
nice review!!!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video!! i just bought this lens and this was really helpful! you’ve earned a subscriber!

@@patternsinsand I’m bought it to use on my 50 year old nikon F2, so that never mattered to me anyway lol. thanks again!
@@mikeratledgeguy Yes, it really shines on film, where the grain adds texture to the softness without making it look smudgy.

@@patternsinsand Thanks for the quick reply. It got stuck in my head!
@@patternsinsand Found the right track! Thanks 👊
Blooming brilliant lens still. Ad for zone focus street, where does sharpness fall off when stopped down past f11 or ?

@ true. I guess I was thinking more about maximizing sharpness on a tripod for a detailed cityscape scene
What do you use for video?
Mostly GoPro. I use my Nikon Z 6 with an Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8S for my bits to camera.

Thanks for watching. The song is Metabolit by SoundReality: pixabay.com/music/beats-metabolit-124939/

@@robdidoI've found speed ramping is a great way to inject a bit of life into these (sometimes) inert videos!
Hmmmm. Excellent production quality. How is it that you've only got 1500 subscribers? I'd expect a minimum of 25,000.
Don't know! But thanks for kind comment and spread the word!

So it’s a cronut?
Hard and soft at the same time. Perfect!
I was goimg to watch but the repetative background noise was too annoying
Thanks for the feedback. Are we talking about the music or the street sounds? Regardless, feel free to turn the volume down. You're not missing much.
Absolutely terrible lens!! Terrible image quality for a disgustingly inflated price!!!
