    And just like that, I want to play hooky at work and go practice! Thanks for bringing me back to beloved technique season.

      How could I hope for anything more than hearing "beloved technique season"? Did I tell you I have a dream of one day holding group scale sessions in Salt Lake City weekly - simply for anyone who wants to show up and play the Scale Game? -Because I do. 😄 I'll let you know if I ever try to pull it off!

    Great video! I don’t practice arpeggios as much as I probably should but I find that, just like you said in the video, I do tend to warm up before a concert using arpeggios so that I can play quickly through the instruments range. Arpeggios are so helpful!

      Thank you! I'm kind of surprised it took me this long to get to the topic of arpeggios... on the other hand, it's a sign there are lots more videos out there for me to make! 😂

    In trying this, I also realized that one can easily add common jazz chords to the mix and it still is just changing 1-2 notes at a time. Great way to go through all the keys!

      Way to be creative while playing arpeggios - I bet Grandpas Taffanel and Gaubert would be proud!

    Love love love this! My teacher in grad school had me combine 10 & 11 and it did wonders for my sound. Trevor Wye also had some good ones in his practice books.

    • @AprilClaytonflute
      @AprilClaytonflute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's great! Yes, these are important exercises that can help not only fingers but sound very much! And yes, Trevor Wye is another good source. Also Reichert - I like his related exercises. 👍

    Great video! I love working or arpeggios and I appreciate the focus on using constant air through the patterns. I'm excited to incorporate more of these practices into my warmups and hopefully it will help my fingers to get more aligned too!

    Wow! This video contains so much information...whew! After watching this video I went and worked on T&G 10...I confess I've been doing it wrong: just sight-reading, which is so much work. Thanks for the analysis. Suddenly 10 and 12 make a lot more sense. Respect to T&G! THANK YOU!

      Great! And, well, I wouldn't say sight-reading is WRONG..... but... yes, it's better if you can get them memorized, and play them at will! 👍✨

    Oh! Something I wanted to ask! When you play high F# and move to high B like T&G does, do you slide your R3 to the second trill key for high B or do you just use the fingering with R2? I’ve done it both ways, but I’m curious to read your thoughts about that from high F# to high B. Basically all my teachers have made me not use it except for trills between E-F#. I always felt that the normal F# fingering to high B was super inefficient. Thanks in advance!

    • @AprilClaytonflute
      @AprilClaytonflute  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! When I'm doing arpeggios that involve high F-sharp leaping to high B, I finger high F-sharp with r.h. 2 and still use r.h. 3 to hit the second trill key on the B. It's true that in lower octaves, we don't want to overdo playing F-sharps with r.h. 2, and I never do except for trill situations. But for the HIGH F-sharp, that regular fingering with r.h. 3 is often too sharp! I use r.h. 2 on high F-sharp as an alternate fingering often, simply to make the pitch better. So I feel completely unconflicted using that fingering on my way leaping up to the high B. I hope that makes sense, and is helpful! Your teachers (past or present) might actually agree with me on use of r.h. 2 for the high F-sharp, vs. NON-use of it for the lower F-sharps! Thanks for the notes, and happy practicing!
