It's a great way to lose SPEED so he can land faster. It's actually low-key genius because you have to start slowing down earlier landing "normally", this allows you to come in super hot and slow down much faster.
Imagine fighting tooth and nail on the front lines, seeing your comrades fall left and right as the enemy advances and you just see this shit on the horizon, glorious.
I apparently play the shit out of enlisted, typically German. I make it a point to communicate with your team for bombing runs a back strafes to keep enemy's at bay. But I add some care for my friends on the ground, I run a stuka with the horns of Jericho, and I usually always fly low over the objective, you'd be surprised how quick some guys will scatter once you begin to dive towards them.

Normally you'd just do a 180° turn to land pretty quickly, that's what most decent pilots do, this guy does some fancy stuff. Helicopters in arma are pretty easy to fly in arma tho compared to actual flight simulators.

Well I found out that if I did barrel roll while in the attack chopper, I could literally dodge his tow missile by rotating around it. I’d win the close fights as I used aa missiles and was better at switching to gunner seat to light him up.
One time my friend and I were in an AN-2 and I was piloting. Another guy hopped in with us to be transported back to base and to be extra I wanted to show off to my friend in the copilots seat how to land it *BACKWARDS.* The other guy didn't trust me enough and bailed out right as I stalled and he hit the ground. I, however, landed the plane just fine to the reply of my best friend asking me "Must you do that?..."
I've hit Pred in apex, gm in overwatch, and SL in rocket league and still to this day learning how to fly in a mil sim game (i started in squad) is most likely the hardest thing I've had to do in a video game.... not only do you have to learn how to fly but you have to do it on the go while you have 10-15 dudes who are actively talking mad shit directly to you while you try to do one of the most precise things in gaming..... it deserves more credit tbh

When your anti torque rotor goes out, you don't need to climb that high. All you need to do is counter the spin, start flying whatever weird angle it holds at. Once you reach enough speed, the heli will whip around, flying straight in the direction you were heading, and then you have full control until you slow down too much or go to land.

We been doing this with J-hooks since Aces High, Operation Flashpoint, and ArmA 1, with the unbeatable SAMs.. to dodge, and get the boots in the AO from the MG6s on up... with rooftop fast ropes off a side-strafed barrel roll, full cyclic, going up! I literally had this happen the other day. I lost my anti-torque and had people jumping out for fear of a potential crash. It was tough, sure, but I made it in one piece. The guys that jumped... well, maybe not.
wow i used to able to fly like this in arma when i like 18yrs but after huge gap for not playing for years and aging no way am i sharp enough.......dude you got serious moves man it's one of those skills that if stop you using you lose it.

Most people ditch because No.1 they think they can survive the fall (most the time you can't there are exceptions), No.2 they don't understand how a helicopter flies and how to manage it even while damaged, and No.3 because they think they either have a better idea to combat the danger or are impatient. Most people who don't ditch either want to see if it goes well(Patience) or trust that pilot from experience.(There can be exceptions to this rule.) Feel free to tell me if I missed something.
A long time ago when ARMA 3 first came out I was flying a transport heli with about 20-30 people in it. On our way to the drop site we started getting chased by an attack helicopter. They were about to kill all of us and I flew fight into the air, then flew straight down and pulled up at the last second. The attack heli didn't pull up in time and crashed. All 30 people were losing their fucking minds and laughing. Top 3 favorite moments in gaming. I wish I recorded it.
