    No looking at watt or pulse indicator, just feeling his body out, and then go all in

      Considering his time trial abilities in his prime at least, I am pretty sure he used it rather to perfection instead not at all. For his makings he was such an extraordinary time trialist ... I am sure he knew how to use watts and pulse indicators to perfection plus what he lacked in pure strenghts and muscle he propably made up with clean technical cycling.
      Although his biggest quality was his climbing ability, he was for sure a beast in the time trial. In his prime even in long flat time trials.

      @@blueaardvark5458 of course he worked with watts. But the point is that in the decisive climbs he was not looking at the numbers. He was just trying to destroy his rivals before destroying himself xD

      @jakobkristensen9445 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Nibalis form was actually ridiculous too. In the other years he has usually been behind Contador and Froome - and sometimes Quintana, but in 2014 I actually believe that Nibali would have won the Tour, even if Froome and Contador were not crashed. At least it would have been a dog fight between all 3 riders.
      Don't forget that 2014 was the greatest time gap from 1 two 2 in the Tour de France since Jan Ullrich in 1997.
      Froomes trainer also said afterwards that it would have been extremely difficult to beat Nibali that exact year because they compared Froomes watts at the time to Nibalis watt.

      No he wasnt. Neither was Froome.I know that many people today think that the best driver is the one that puts out the highest watts in the steepest climbs, but there were times when it wasnt that way.
      Nibali was the one who could fly on a rainy day over the pavement of Paris-Roubaix, while Froome crashed and Contador could not follow. A technical mistake on the descent was Contador's later tragic downfall in this Tour.
      There is no discussion that Nibali was the best in this tour. His climbing performances were outstanding (some say suspicious), that it would have been intereting to see the comparison to Froome/Contador. However both made a mistake before, Nibali did not.

    • @blueaardvark5458
      @blueaardvark5458 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@djokovicgreatest8720
      We have a different approach to it, I already said it.
      What we cannot compare is a potential confrontation in the mountains in the steepest climbs, cause Froome and Contador were out then.
      Although they were able to calculate the watts Nibali was able to put out, which were so great, that many thought it to be "suspicious" instead of great.
      What we know is, that Froome wasn't able to follow on the rainy cobblestones, while Nibali showed a perfomance nearly on par with the specialists there. Froome crashed under this pressure, Contador lost decisive time. Contador later on made a mistake on a descent, Nibali did not.
      I find it rather sad, that Tour organizers more and more make it to a pure climbing perfomance comparison, killing many of the challenges in the flat stages, but there were times when it was different and a Grand Tour combined all the skills of cyclists and if you were a pure specialist for the highest mountains, but miserably in other terrain you would not have stood a chance.
      So for some people, defeating the competitors on the cobblestones or superior descending qualities might be cheating, I see this as part of a Grand Tour. If you are not able to go over the cobblestones fast enough, you are not the best, simply as that.
      Thus, I think Nibali had a well deserved victory.
      As a quick reminder, Contador himself won the Giro 2015 not only by his great climbing perfomances, but also by superior time trial qualities outside of the mountains, which showed the weakness of the new generation of Grand Tour contenders, only specialized in their climbing perfomance.

He is very respectful with all his rivals, so he had never said he would have won it if he hadn´t fallen in the 10th stage, but he was coming back in the GC in the previous stages.

      @@djsguitars01 Your comment is laughable. Experts says a different thing: "Dutch doctor Douwe de Boer, considered the world's leading authority on clenbuterol analysis, endorses the innocence of the Spanish cyclist, triple winner of the Tour de France, for his possible positive for this substance in the last edition of the Tour.
      In this report, the doctor, who graduated in Biochemistry from the University of Groningen, emphasizes that the "main use" of the substance is "for the treatment of asthma" and assures that it is also usually applied, sometimes "in high doses," in cattle "for their growth." "Its misuse can cause poisoning in those who consume it," he says, noting that "several reports" confirm the existence of these poisonings.
      Regarding the case of the triple Tour de France champion, the Dutch doctor reveals that between "July 19 and 20", the controls do not indicate that there was clenbuterol, that "that found on the 21st is very low, equivalent to 0.05 ng/ mL" and that that on day 22 "was even lower, estimated at 0.02 ng/mL."
      De Boer states that the 'half-life' of the substance is between "25 and 39 hours." Based on pharmacological calculations, he comments that "assuming an average of 24 hours, the maximum concentration could have been 0.1 ng/mL", if it were 32 hours, "0.09 ng/mL" and if it were 40 hours "0.08 ng/mL".
      "These maximum concentrations are below 0.9ng/mL. Consequently, if an accidental ingestion of small quantities occurred directly after the control on July 20, it should have been undetectable for Alberto Contador and in no case would they have provided any benefit," he continues.
      In this way, the biochemist finds it "clear" that the Spanish runner "consumed meat from Spain" after the control on the 20th. "Knowing the history of clenbuterol poisoning in Spain and that the substance can now be detected in extremely lows, it is obvious that this particular case, the scenario of an accidental intake due to meat consumption, is the most likely," he adds.
      “The concentration of clenbuterol in Contador's urine is extremely low. “
      Finally, in conclusion, the Dutch doctor points out that the concentration of clenbuterol in Contador's urine "is extremely low", which is "extremely probable and it would be fair to look at the case from a scenario of accidental consumption due to meat consumption" and that WADA-accredited laboratories should not report quantities of the substance "below 10 percent of its MRPL (an analytical parameter) of 2 ng/mL. to have a fair and reasonable concentration for an adverse result."

      I don't know about that, if you just judge based on what they did on the road, nothing else, Contador has a big advantage over Froome. Contador won 9 Grand Tours, and Froome won 6 Grand Tours. Yes, they took 2 of those Grand Tours away from Contador, and also gave Froome 1 additional Grand Tour, to make them both even with 7 Grand Tours on paper. But, if we're just talking about what they did on the road in competition, it's Contador 9 and Froome 6. The only advantage that Froome has over Contador, is his 4 Tour de France wins, versus Contador's 3 Tour de France wins.
