    LOL, great piece, in the upper right corner at the end of the video, there is a grumpy old person face that just took off a pair of sun glasses is wearing a hat and has flowing long hair. Mesh melts are fun to do. Great way to use up scrap.

    Great looking piece, I will definitely have a crack at it, every time I've tried s/s I had problems with spalling when the kiln starts cooling down. The mesh seems to stop that happening so I am going to hunt some s/s, I'm guessing the grade won't matter as long as it' s a small mesh

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paul. I've had that with some stainless, though only rarely. It could be the grade. I've noticed some items I've purchased as stainless and they rust! And that's unexpected. If this is stainless it is probably a good grade to be used in a heater. And the heater was perhaps 50 years old so probably better back then. Seems things are made to minimum tolerances today and don't last. But it could be the mesh structure as well. Let us know how you go.

    Any stainless steel wire mesh can be used. If you search for stainless meah or stainless steel screen as we call it here in the states you can find many gris size and wire diameter siEs from supply houses.

      @@RocketRoseArtJosh actually and no worries buddy I'm excited to try a melt using scrap with some rectangular grid I found I'm going to put the rectangles at an angle to give the final billet alot of color movement. Also if you experiment with the percentage of opaque and transparent you use you can end up with some nice variety as well. Keep up the great work buddy

    Another nice video, Jeff. I’ve had some luck using terra cotta pots, and terra cotta pot trays, with drilled holes into the bottom. I’ve tried some wire mesh, but looking for an affordable source. I don’t have an old heater to dismantle! 🙂

      If you have a hardware store near by, most of them have stainless steel mesh in different sizes for literally a few bucks per foot.

      Hi Jill. Try a metal recycle yard. They have all sorts of old things they recycle. I've got sheet and wire stainless from there. And some other things not relevant to fused glass 😁

    If you use stainless steel mesh #304, all of the glass would remain on the mesh forming an organic shape.

    • @RocketRoseArt
      @RocketRoseArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi William. Not sure what you mean 'remain on the mesh'. You have me intrigued.

      The place I saw the TH-cam was Bonny Doon Fused Glass Tools.
      it means that the glass cannot penetrate the mesh (too dense) it forms an organic object on the metal itself. There are videos on TH-cam where the artist fuses a large leaf. He then folds the mesh where it has bumps and lumps on its surface. He fuses the leaf again and it slumps on the surface of the tight mess. The leaf looks more natural as a result.
      The stainless steel mesh appears to be Kiskis 304 window screen mesh on Amazon.
      Enjoy your videos and experiments. Bill
