    Well done Shayne! If you can ride 170km you can do 180! So close now, so looking forward to seeing the big day! Does it feel real yet?! I’ve loved watching your journey! You’ve got this 💪

    Whatever marketing genius convinced people to hop in ice baths deserves a raise.

    Well done Shayne. I’m glad that it was actually windy for your ride, because it’s guaranteed to be windy at Cairns: consistent 15-25 knot winds from the SE all day, which means it will be directly in your face for each southbound leg of the bike. Personally, I don’t mind a headwind: if you expect it you can psychologically prepare yourself for it - and easier job IMO than when the wind is swirling around or coming at you from the side. For me - in my six races at Cairns - I simply focused on my important numbers - so in case that would equate to maintaining your target Cadence and either HR or normalised power - or both and NOT worrying about speed. If you maintain target cadence and HR/NP then it doesn’t really matter if you are travelling 35kmh with a tail wind or 25kmh into one.
    However, please keep in mind that the Cairns bike course is a little ‘unfair’ in that there is slightly more distance travelled into the head wind than with a tail wind. This is on account of the bike starting 20km north at Palm Cove and finishing on the esplanade in downtown cairns. The important thing is that the last 60 odd km will be a consistent head wind from the last turn outside Port Douglas back down the Captain Cook: this is the critical leg to set yourself up for the marathon: don’t grind big gears chasing speed, let the course come to you and maintain cadence, HP/NP and remember to really juice up on both electrolytes and carbs in that last return leg in preparation for the run!

      Thanks Andrew, the worst part is that my legs were fine but the shoulders and back is where all the pain was at the end. Still need more time to adapt to the muscles to the aero position etc.

    I'm loving following your journey. These final big sessions always feel bad, but when you've shed the fatigue by race day it'll feel OK.

    Compeletely suprised by the 170 km effort 😃 and with really decent speed with the low average heart-bit rate so even there was spare strength for more; earlier a little "worrying" why there was no 130/140km milestone. So probably more than under control. 💪

      Thanks, I probably would have liked to do a couple longer rides too but my back is glad I didn't. Thanks for the support.

    How are you not losing more weight doing that amount of training? Is your coach guiding you on calorie intake and expenditure? The run would be a lot easier if you could get rid of the remaining body fat.

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We have been focussing on losing .5kg per week which we have mostly done but some weeks when I have really big numbers it is very hard. Unfortunately big efforts does not equate to weight lost, its quite complicated and I will explain it all in this weeks video.

    What wetsuit do you use?? I did my first triathlon today - an olympic distance, but the swim was 1500m, it took me 45 mins. It was a river swim. Do you think a sea swim would be a bit easier since id be a bit more buoyant ?? Compared to the river swim??

    • @TakeTheNextRight
      @TakeTheNextRight  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've got a HUUB wetsuit the SS size. It actually felt great in the salt water and I was quicker without any effort. I'm about 1 and a half minutes per km slower in a pool. The salt water and wetsuit really fix up my body position in the water.

    !00% the correct strategy for the swim.....should feel light and easy....just setting you up for the rest of the day 👍Not worth come out blowing out your backside for the sake of 5-10 mins, it'll wreck your day! With the ride....be honest, you were drawing a BULL on Strava!! (that extra 10k...you could have done the tail) 🤣🤣🤣🦾🚴♥#unleashthestravaartistinside YOU GOT THIS! 🦾
