    The Danish coach is a disgrace for getting physical by pushing the Chinese coach in what was an unprovoked attack, this kind of physical aggression has no place in the sport, and if the umpire was doing his job properly, he should have given him a red card and banned him for the rest of the 2022 season. But in the end, natural justice prevailed with the Chinese pair winning the match. Congrats to Zheng and Huang, good luck to them in tomorrow's quarter finals.

    two comments on this match: first, a moment of recognition for gillian clark, who, despite there being other excellent commentators on the sport, is the undisputed regent of all commentators. her research, depth of understanding of the sport, the incredible details she brings as well as color, and her forthrightness about what she sees is unmatched by anything we're going to see in this sport, or in any sport, for a long time. i'm lucky to be engaged in the sport at a time when she is one of the preeminent voices
    second, the service error calls against zheng/huang need serious looking into, and i agree with any calls to implement a system of review for these kinds of calls (in addition to net calls made by umpires). every serve that was called looked legal to me from all angles shown, and, although i missed a small portion of the match, it looked like all calls were against the chinese pair, who have a history of nearly perfect service. yes, zheng and huang both strike the shuttle very close to the max legal height, but so does everyone, because you have to do that if you want to survive the first three exchanges with strong opponents. even when zheng lowered his serves by 4-5 cm, the service judge still called faults. the normally cool-temp[ered and laser-focused zheng went a little bit mental on court over these calls, the danish coach went mental with the chinese coach, and the whole thing leaves a bad taste that distracts from the amazing performance of these four awesome athletes

    @eugenelau9199 ปีที่แล้ว +39

    Congratulations to the Danish pair for making the most out of their opportunity. They had some excellent rally.
    Just going to point out the obvious, the service fault comes every time the Chinese pair make 2-3 great runs of winning rally and then boom, momentum stopped by a service fault. Also, Zheng and Huang were service from their hips and were still getting called. While the Danish were well taller and pretty much served from the same body position, there was zero faults? NOW, to give the service judge the benefit of a doubt as there is no "proof". Interestingly, early on, there were replays of the serves when the service fault was called, but 1) later on, they stopped showing reply of the serves. 2) if you can get a camera to record the serve, how come you cannot put a camera directly behind the line of the device for judging the service? Even if it is not used as a "correction", at least the audience would know if a call is BS or not.
    Lastly, the coach is talking to the chair ump and challenging the decision made as he felt that his players are being treated unfairly. This has nothing to do with the Danish coach. I don't know what words were exchanged but is there a reason for the Danish coach to be aggressive and physical with the other coach? Let the umpires do their job. If the chair ump decided that the Chinese coach is out of line, there are actions to be taken. OR if the Chinese coach still thinks it is a problem, he can escalate to the tournament official which he did (which usually results with nothing). But NEITHER scenario should involve the opposing coach.
    Overall, talk about a home court advantage. I know it exists but does it have to be this obvious?

    • @ducnguyen4083
      @ducnguyen4083 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the chair umpire somehow understands and sympathizes with the Chinese sides. He did try to calm them down and focus on the game to win points. He could have made the matter worse for the Chinese by giving them a card or so .... They would have got more annoyed and couldnt focus on the game. the chair umpires have to trust the service judges cause they are not in good position to decide or question the service judge.

    So why does the shuttle have to be hit below 115cm though? Is there a specific reason/rationale behind it? 🤔

    • @fabiii7044
      @fabiii7044 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      they had to change it from the previous rule "below the ribcage" as taller players had a set advantage and calling a fault was even more wonky than nowadays.
      no clue on the exact decision behind 115 though

    • @Starrynova
      @Starrynova ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s set in relation to the height of the net. If there’s no rule then players will serve higher and higher and eventually smash the shuttle at the opponent 😂
