What a great movie... Kalki characterization is just awesome. I THINK Rahman's character is fictional...Havnt seen men of his type who can accept such a girl... Balachander s a legend.. His movies speak abt human emotions ..and he shows various sides of a human.. His bold chacterization to women..attracts me the most. I love his movies...

Excellent! செல்லம்மா!அமைதியான அன்பான இரக்கமான அறிவுள்ள அற்புதமான பெண். அதற்கு match ஆகிற மாதிரி இன்னொரு அற்புதமான இனிமையான அன்பான வீட்டு உதவிப் பெண். மிகவும் பொறுமையும் பணிவும் நியாய மனப்பான்மையுமுள்ள கற்பகம்! அருமையான பெண் கதாபாத்திரங்கள். பாலச்சந்தர் மட்டுமல்ல இந்தப் பெண்களும் கூட மிக அற்புதமாக கதாபாத்திரங்களோடு ஒன்றிப் போய் விடுகிறார்கள். பரிணமித்திருக்கிறார்கள். " முத்து முத்து மகளே" மிக அருமையான பாடல்.

I liked the movie for Kalki's bravery to teach a rich married man a lesson for mistreating women. At the same time, her lover was genuinely waiting even she had ditched him for a reason. A very unconventional movie.

How the heck did KB sir took such a futuristic subject film like this way back in 1996? So much depth about love and how pure is love. Be it a love for a friend (kalki to cm) or love for a lover (rahman to kalki). How Kalki was willing to give up her virginity just to give a baby for Chellama from Chellama's ex husband and how Rahman still accepted Kalki after she giving birth to a child of another man. Seriously, Salute for creation of such a bold yet beautiful character like "kalki". Such a heart warming film.... KB sir, you are dearly missed.......

Kalki is an excellent movie which minutely portrays two extremes of the male gender.One who thoroughly respects women and the other an extreme male chauvinist.Directed by K.Blachander sir,who was the kingmaker in that era.
Chellamma is the soul of the story.An extremely tolerant,demure lady who seeks solace in music.Her greatest regret in life is to have married a male chauvinist who makes her life hell.At one point,she is not able to tolerate further when she sees her husband with another woman and thus falls into convulsion in her musical concert. Both of them get divorced on mutual consent.As time flies,she runs into Kalki, an energetic,vibrant young girl who seems to fill the place of her emptiness in life.Both get on well.Meanwhile,Paranjothi a handsome,young chap likes kalki,starts to follow and proposes.Kalki opposes saying she has some duties.All of a sudden,Kalki moves away from chellamma leaving her perplexed.Chellamma,later on finds out that she's having an affair with Prakash,her ex husband.She tries to warn Kalki about Prakash's character but she turns a deaf ear refusing to heed her advice.Chellamma doesn't talk further.
On the other side,Kalki gets pregnant and derives immense pleasure from torturing Prakash by her bold words and behaviour in and out of the house.Prakash,too has no other way out as she threatens to tarnish his image as a decent and succesful businessman in the society.
Time flies.Eventually Kalki gives birth , pens a letter to Chellamma all about her conviction to gift her a baby who can soothe the wounded heart of the music devotee.She leaves silently leaving the baby in chellama's care.
Kalki goes back to Paranjothi to know if he is still keen on his proposal.He too accepts her saying that he loved only her heart and nothing else mattered.Though the ending may seem unrealistic, the character Paranjothi mythological,Kalki is a top notch movie consisting of meaningful dialogues,soulful music and great performances of cast..
