awesome review Thank you William! Just wanted to mention - I custom tune the XTC's so if a user wanted more detail or less bass or both or mids - if they want me to tune for tinnitus or other preferences I will make that happen- I match the drivers (beryllium 32/64/300ohm or 32 ohm for biowool) to the users owned amps and dacs and the customer tells me what headphones they like and dislike and I will try my best to tune them just the way they want- so every single set is customized for that customer. AND if they ever sell them I will retune them for the next owner free of charge they just pay for shipping. All my custom wound drivers from the factory claim they are matched - I go above and beyond and are painstakingly hand and machine matched by me which could take me several days just to find the right match and mismatched drivers become orphans waiting for a mate- I have zero tolerance for any quality issues and will try my best to truly make a tailored headphone for the end user - my XTC headphones should make users want to listen endlessly and melt into the music with zero fatigue - where everything they reproduce should sound as accurate as it was recorded. I thank you so much for taking the time and really appreciate the enthusiasm. JM Audio Editions

What you're doing is just incredible and unheard of. There is so much value-added service that comes with a purchase of your company's headphones. Only love and passion does this. Your reputation will always precede you for that love. I wish you all the return love and success you're putting out to the community. I feel like you're like a small snowball set to rolling down the hill. Eventurally, at the bottom of the hill of success, you'll be as big as you want to be.

One of the most important factors of these headphones is they are personally tuned to your preference. Every single pair is tuned to your liking. John will even retune them if you decided you want just a little bit more of something. If you bought them used, John will even retune them for the new owner. They would just have to pay shipping to and from. They are such an incredible value.

The fact that they leak less than HiFiMan is a big plus. My wife sits very close to me in the evening and a less leaky headphone really helps. Thanks for a great review. Look forward to your complete reviews and comparisons.

thank you William, for taking the time to do finally a solid review on the JM XTC 2. By the way may i ask, since JM audio allows for specific uning, may i ask what tuning gharacter was requested for these 2 headphones on review. Also may i also ask, if these, like the ZMF open backs like atrium do well with OTL tubs amps or solid sate. Thank you

Thanks for the first impressions. You seem to echo what I’ve been hearing regarding these. I’ve been on the fence between these and the Hifiman HE1000. I think you just confirmed the route I’m going to take. Now if only they included all the accessories / cables etc that the Hifiman Package includes. Multiple dacs / setups require multiple cables etc. Things start to add up once you throw in extra cables / pads etc.
I do like to support innovators in the industry, I’m still rocking my MrSpeakers Alpha Primes!
That said, its time for some open cans in my world.
Thanks for creating a great online community for guys like us to learn, share and enjoy!

The XTC comes with 3 sets of ear pads, and withthe $44 extra you get upgraded internal wiring to OCC 7N and a matching Copperhead wire of your choice 4.4 or 3.5 and the 2M wire choice of XLR, 4,4 or 3,5 or 6.3- and the hard case plus I custom tune the hp's to your specs and it includes taxes and shipping inside USA- I hope this helps -JM

Love my beryllium coated drivers of VC and own Feliks Elise so I'm set to try beryllium ver of those with tube flavour they need. Dont really like Hifiman sound and I'm glad those are better tuned

I haven't compared them directly but from memory, I would say lighter, more comfortable, and more detail. Similar tone balance.

    • @JMAudioEditions

Less fatigue similar detail but more mids and better tighter bass- but as I mentioned I will custom tune each set to that user and what they like and dislike as they describe what headphones they like and dislike - we spend time making these NONE are off the shelf- all are custom around that user. -JM
