Instead of having the ref having to call soft break why not put a speed gun by the table and say it has to be at least a certain mph….problem solved

Right,if 2 balls fall it doesn't look as bad, judgement calls aren't the answer,a minimum speed is,or it's a foul.
Because matches need refs anyway so adding a speed gun to every table would be a lot more expensive and labor-intensive than just having refs make the determination

Because a tiny woman can't break as hard as a large man. No way to find a speed that works for everyone if there is a mph limit. Refs just want to make sure the player is breaking firm according to what they're physically capable of. That's what I think at least.
Duong Quoc Hoang has improved leaps and bounds .. he is a new giant slayer! I would be happy if a player from Vietnam will become the next world champion after Aloyssus Yap of Singapore.
I respect the fact almost all of SVB's shot assessment is from where he stands as he shoots. None of this up and down, back and forth and walking around eyeing everything up all the time business.

The commentator is so biased towards SVB,Hoang is a very good player.
By most modern standards for break they've been using the three balls past the head string or less per each ball made.

A lucky fluke shot from him for not scratching, pocketing the 3 by bank shot to the side and luckily having position on the 4 ball on his next shot!
Look closely, the cue ball is not on the scratch course.

The usual rule is 3 balls must pass the headstring. And it’s not a foul it is a gentleman’s rule agreed upon by majority vote
