what even many Germans are not aware of: Berlin is like a kind of water city ((swamp/sand underground() and has masses of water (with a lot of urban green): over 50 lakes, 8 channels, different harbors (inland ports as well, once one of the biggest in germany), 3-5 rivers, many islands, masses of beaches (city beaches as well as lake beaches). one reason why Berlin is a true green city is that 1. Prussia back then build (Holbrecht Plan) consequently wide streets with trees (alleys), not just a few for representative reasons but as general standard. thats also why cycling in Berlin was even easy when no cycle paths exist (due to the wide streets you always had enough space). also the reason why in difference to 'bike cities' like Copenhagen or Stockholm you can cycle AND at the same time have e-cars and pedestrians etc. separated at the same time. most other cities like those (or London, Paris, Rome etc.) have in relation much fewer wide streets and can only block car traffic for bikes and/or pedestrians (and often without trees as well). And Prussia also created masses of the old classic urban parks (you know, those romantic ones with lot of statues, ruine like classical constructions, little places and so on. most 'modern' parks have not such charme!). and of course as former imperial city you have a lot of palaces with palaces gardens - and an entire 'culture landscape' in and around the city, again with masses of classical buildings, palaces - dreamy king structures which are made for such purposes ...

Yes, it's crazy how most Germans think it's just a grey concrete city when in reality it's the greenest city in all Germany 😅 thanks for sharing the insight!

      What, 50 lakes!

    • @LeoPlaw
      @LeoPlaw ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@crocus5632 yes the North of Germany has thousands of them. They're the left over puddles from the massive ice sheet that used to cover the region in the ice age.

You can still see that Berlin is a conglomerate of Brandenburg Villages. The Spree and Havel River providing a lot of Water and Nature (like Lions 😆). Born on the Western outskirt but on Brandenburg Side, we used to explore all swamps, lakes and former soviet camps after school it was a lot of fun.

My husband and I bought an apartment there a few years ago mostly just to rent out at first, but as I have recently gotten a job in Berlin, we might end up moving there within the next couple of years or so, depending on how my job goes. I'm excited for him to cover Spandau as well - a few years ago friends of ours in Berlin used to say "it's not Berlin", but even within the years we bought our place there, we've seen some very positive changes. We have our apartment right on the water and I'd be happy to live there for sure.

My guy has once again amazed me with his ability to make hilarious comedic content that can appease to his audience whilst also making highly detailed educational content about various aspects of living Germany.
Like if you told me 3 years ago this man whose vids I've been watching to get some idea about Berlin night life would also make vids to educate viewers about the lesser known Berlin districts where one could live someday if they stay here, I would probably have said you're probably not thinking of Radical Living.
But hats off to you man, keep making the amazing content! I hope one day in the future to meet you in a fan meet n greet at some expo or event in Germany!

My wife and I are recently back home in Wisconsin after spending 5 days in Berlin to wrap up 3 weeks in Germany. Thanks for all your humorous and informative videos.

In 5 days you can't even begin to scratch the surface. You need at least 2 weeks to see all the basics and Touristy stuff and museums to even scratch it. Going out of the Ring and looking at all the cool hidden streets, Kleingärten will take you at least 3 months of living in Berlin

I really like your Videos. I was grown up in Berlin for 30 years. Berlin is so huge that I was never been in Buch and Rahnsdorf for example. I've lived a long time in Lichtenberg, next to Rummelsburg. It was quite nice. Its was really close to the city center (10 minutes with U5 Subway to Alex) very close to the Warschauer-Straße-Party-District (Direct with the M13 Tram or S5). If I had to I a also could walked home from Friedrichshain within 20 Minutes. BTW to get to the Sisyphos was a 15 minutes walk.
I have to say that you only show the eastern an northern Districs. But there are many more. I hope you will make a 3rd part with Steglitz, Dahlem, Spandau and Pankow for example.

In my new job on the route to Düsseldorf our ship is always sailing to Berlin. We bunkering on Spandau. 2 August we are sailing again on the same route. The Berlin itself have great water retention around. The regions around Berlin are always amazing to sail. The route is beautifull and great. Pretty neat to know how Berlin looks like from this perspective. Unfortunately we stand on Spandau max about an hour or two. I never could sightsee Berlin because of time. Maybe on our next cruises we would stand for a day or two with some free time I hope so :)

Another 5 star R.L. still think we( my boyfriend&l ) are too poor for Berlin- I'm already on government disability, but I could go back to healthcare( Bunch ! Looked practical-jobs- & liveable, but expensive,again)-anytime,I'd just have to fast track my license over there . I don't think gov'ment assistance would extend to expats from u.s. , California in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland- I'm so glad I have a vocation I could easily take up again&be useful in a new environment to its people-if only part-time ! Thanx as always ,R.L. ( & we prefer city, hustle-bustle,like yourself, but appreciate the village-style uniqueness of some places-& the highrise 'project' living, too,if we need them ! ) - b. bb+ B

I live outside of the equivalent of the ring in Cardiff. Since it is a coastal city it has a road that bisects it rather than a ring so it's the Eastern and Western Avenues or the A48. When you live north of it people don't want to visit you like it's a Berlin Wall excuse the pun.

Only for German "correctness": You call all the various zones districts, e.g. "Ortsteil" Friedrichsfelde which belongs to the "Bezirk" Lichtenberg; would be good to match the Ortsteile to the Bezirke, not to get them mixed up - One result could be: Someone hears an apartment is in Lichtenberg (thinks he watched the clip (referring to the Ortsteil) and thinks its nice and moves there, but it turns out to be in Wartenberg (in the district of Lichtenberg) which is more similar to Marzahn. This could be avoided by explaining the difference of the terms and matching them accordingly. There is the Ortseil of Lichtenberg and there is the Bezirk of Lichtenberg, which cover different areas :) - Otherwise well covered, but missed out on Karlshorst which rules them all ...

Marzahn did have a Nazi-Problem, in the 90s. It was solved by the Russlanddeutschen, coming at this time in great numbers from the former soviet union to Berlin and settled in Marzahn and Hohenschönhausen.
    Cпасибо!

Yea I've lived in Marzahn a couple years and have never once seen neo-nazis. Was always curious why people always said that.

Why oh why did you cut out Fennpfuhl from the map 😭 You even showed my building there 😂 it's cheap. Super close to fhain. We have a large park.
Jokes aside, really amazing job highlighting great areas outside of the ring. I cycle frequently in many of the areas you mentioned and they're really cool. Even Marzahn is great!
Do a Wuhletal bike tour video!

Great video, many familiar places, but FEZ Berlin is located closer to Köpenick rather than Niedershöneweide though.
