Not sure if you know but for some added bike security when you pop into a shop your Garmin edge has a bike alarm feature. If anyone moves your bike it makes a hell of a racket…. Enjoying your chilled bike packing videos.
Thanks for the tip. We did this route as a family trip over three days on the Bank Holiday. My 12 yo managed out very well. That loop on the north end was very hard to follow the route with lots of mud, and the last 5ish kms when it goes west before going back east to finish in Brockenhurst, I'd say it's not worthy. Lots of traffic. As for the rest, it's a very nice route. Thanks!
Last week I had the opportunity to ride the gravel route in the New Forest, and I must say, it's one of the best collections of gravel roads and paths in New Forest. The route is designed so well that it flows very smoothly, making it an enjoyable ride for everyone. But, while most of the route is in great condition, I did encounter one small issue with a narrow bridleway around the farms just before Roydon Woods. The path is hardly passable, especially with a loaded bike, due to a broken barbed wire fence and severe path erosion. It would be great if you could reroute this section of the path to make it accessible for everyone. Overall, I loved the route and found it to be an incredibly enjoyable ride. I commend all involved who created this fantastic route, and I hope that small issues like the one I encountered can be addressed. Keep up the excellent work!
Been to the new forest with a love of my life for a meander on the mountain bike. Coming from the far north east this place was a fantastic majestic place full of bird song n pine smells😁👍💚💚🇬🇧
Heya, great video and some good ideas. I never even considered sleeping in a hammock before :) also curious where you find music to add, its really nice. I just worry about getting a copyright strike. Cheers
Love it. Heading there tomorrow for a couple of days gravel riding with my two daughters. Been there a few times in recent years and it’s an amazing place to ride a bike
Another great video. TNF is a beautiful area for sure. I only know the tarmac roads from the Audax rides I did down there a few years ago. They can get quite busy with the iron carriages, so would love to visit the off-road trails sometime soon.
Just a heads up , there is a section quite close to the isle of Wight ferry that is now very boggy & over grown , I sank up to my knees even in June lol .
Great video, the new forest is just down the road from me, but it means riding through Southampton to get there which isn’t the best so I don’t get there as often as I should
Another great video and has a very relaxing feel to it. Does the hammock get cold at night with the cold air circulating below it? If so how do you keep warm and why a hammock over a small tent? Keep doing what you're doing!
Hammocks will get cold as you compress the bottom of your sleeping bag by lying on it, so pretty much no insulaton below you. You can use a ground sleeping pad in your hammock, or you can buy a hammock underblanket which hangs below your hammock, which is comfier and probably warmer.
@@KeepSmilingAdventures : thank you. I will follow up on this. Yep. That’s it. I’m currently listening to Last Ride Home which I hope is far in the future for both of us!
New Forest is amazing, I'm lucky to live here. Thanks for the video, glad to hear I'm not only one that crazy. Done few bike packing trips myself. As of the lock, if you are biking light, this lock might help you - I wouldn't use it for locking the bike in Bournemouth town centre, but places like shops would do: AXA Defender Frame Lock incl. RLC 100. The chain is small(but strong) enough to keep it under the bike seat in the bag. Since I put that on few months ago, I haven't token it off(you do attach the main unit to the bike frame, thanks Germany). No more fiddling around with D-lock(but D-lock is advised for not so safe places). I keep a tool box next to the crank, using bottle box - it is hanging down.
@@KeepSmilingAdventures I was looking at the North downs way but need to build upto that but it goes close to my house and still has 70miles left so thinking I might do sections at a time then do it all in one afterc
Great route, new forest is local to me and recognised loads of it! Might try this as my first bike packing trip. I’ve noticed that you upload all your routes in one go, does this mean you don’t turn your garmin off overnight and how does this work when you are riding for a few days?
Press stop on the Garmin at night, don't delete or save ride. It switches itself off after a couple of minutes inactivity, recharge if needed. Turn it on the next day, press start and off you go. When you upload should all be one continuous ride.
Just a heads up. Any wild camping in the New Forest is not allowed. If the forestry commission, verderers or agisters come across you, you’ll be moved on. Nice video though.
They have to find you first and it’s unlikely if you’re careful. Don’t try and put people off. Petty vagrancy laws are pathetic and the jobsworths who uphold them are equally so.

Glad I saw this first. Did my first ever cycle in New Forest on my Mountain Bike on Saturday - 18+ Miles and it was brilliant 🚴

Planet X do a small retractable combination lock. It's great for nipping into shops, and doubles as a clothes line at camp! 😉

I love the new forest. Living just outside Bournemouth I am always riding around the forest. Love both off road and road cycling 👌🏻
I did this yesterday. It was a beautiful day - thanks for the info and gpx map 👍🙂

This video game at just the right time. Just got my first gravel bike and this might be the first trip!
hello , nice video. one question , do you have no underquilt or sleeping mat in you hammock?? not to too cold ???
I just went and did this route on the bank holiday after seeing your video. Thanks for the inspiration
I did exactly the same👍
Thank for that , I'll pop over from the IoW & try it , looks fantastic .

Incredible morning scenes. 👍 lovely video
New subscriber! Enjoying the content. We do many over nighter's here locally. So much fun when you can't get away for days on end.
Do you ever share your GPX routes 🙂
Would be great to know where you started, what’s youre route and where you camped.

Southampton is so close, but a bit dodgy to get across. Once in though so many tracks or back roads to use
You could probably just jump on the train to avoid southampton
There are good cycle paths and it's all downhill, if You have a nice looking bike just keep Your wits about You
Doing that route first week in May :)
Great video
Crazy drone shots ..Kip sending...Ryde safe .
A great video, very inspiring! Thank you for sharing :)
Great Ride 😁 Loving the bonk cap 🧢 where can you buy them 🤔
Ride the New Forest 2-3 times a month. Love living so close to the Forest
Same. I am in Queen’s Park Bournemouth, so a nice short ride and straight in to the forest
I am very lucky and live in the new forest. I am on a mission to try and ride every road and trail. I think it will probably take many life times.
Super video!
I love bike riding in the forest👍
What is the size of tyres are you using plz? Thanks
They are the 50mm maxxis rambler This is the bike setup, still mostly this th-cam.com/video/Gnd_4LgTyrg/w-d-xo.html

Do you need a mountain bike for it?
Gorgeous scenery. I’ll have to bring a bicycle next time I’m visiting my friend in Salisbury. I enjoyed the music. What was it?
Its a nice chilled out ride for sure.
Which music in particular there is a few different tracks
@@KeepSmilingAdventures : the jazz track - really nice

How long do you have at camp? Just enough time to eat, sleep and then get back on the bike?
Normally just as long as the night is at the time. Set up just as the sun is going down and pack up as the sun is rising.

Are you planning any Kent bike packing? I'm going to tale the jump and do some in the summer hopefully as trying to get my fitness back first
I will probably do the north downs way at some point, its on the list. But if you have any recommendations of routes let me know 👍🚵♂️

Wild camping isn’t allowed anywhere except Dartmoor, but if stealth you can get away with it. Arrive late, leave early 👌🏻
