Amazing! Found this video as I'm considering doing it this year. Bit worried the terrain might be too difficult though - what would you say? I've done blues at trail centres, anything too rocky and techy isn't for me....Also did the Yorkshire MTB marathon, which I recommend! Distance and hills not a problem as I'm on an ebike!
Cheers for the view and the comment, that is exactly what this video is about. I saw several people on the day who weren't prepared possibly thinking they could just turn up. I have been riding the Trails in the area for years and so knew them really well. The distance was the issue for me 43 miles really is a challenge I normally do about 20 ish miles but then that is the idea, it is not called "challenge" for nothing. I will be honest if you say "anything too rocky and techy isn't for me" most of this trail will be a challenge for you as you can see. Obviously I did the full challenge and there is the shorter versions which have less distance and slightly less rockiness. Personally I would do it, who said it should be easy? Just take your time, you have an ebike so the climbs will not be a problem in terms of effort but you ll have to pick your lines a little. I will be all the more rewarding when you complete it. Let me know what you decide and love to know how you get on WHEN you enter!
Definitely epic! They do three routes a blue that's the first part of the route a red that's a similar distance (21 miles ish) to the blue but more technical (the second half of the vid) and the black....add them together and you have it.
Fantastic job Mate. I was signed up to this but personal stuff at the time meant I couldn’t do it. One of my brothers did though and he said it was the toughest ride he’s ever done so kudos to you all that did it. 👍
Great job mate, challenge well & truly complete, some fantastic descents, i felt knackered just watching lol, you deserved that canned water at the end 😃👍 brilliant video 👍
A quality IPA would have gone down better but hey 😜. Cheers Marc. It showed me that pushing yourself on a bike is not always about the "gnar" or lack thereof, but it can also be pushing the physical barriers too. This really was very hard. How can I put this, I was never thinking I couldn't make it, but equally I was very much looking forward to that can of water 😜👍
I worried I'd struggle more than I did. Just the last couple if climbs I employed the legs more than I'd like. Get signed up.... it'll give you the incentive 👍
Fantastic!! Now that is a big day in the saddle! Bet you did sleep well that night. Loved how happy you were at the end with the weighty medal, and disappointed with the tap water in a can 🤣🤣 Well done mate, you really did great getting round that loop, will you be doing it next year? Maybe one to get Marc, Jason, Shaun and I on 🤣
It was a well thought out route. First part was the easier less techy "blue route". Then followed by the stuff around Ladybower which was the "Red". Put 'em together and what have you got...."black" apparently. Loads of classic Peak trails. It's a great event for people to have a planned tour route of the area picking out some good trails. Still we did 2k more descending at Stiniog than the climbs on this one. Actually feel more battered and tired after an uplift 🤔🤣
Fantastic I've just signed up for this in 2023 43 mile route nor sure if I've bitten off more than I can chew lol. I have a hard tail trek marlin 8. Would you recommend a full suspension bike or will the trek be ok. Cheers
Hi there, thanks for the comment. This video is proving popular ATM, guessing it's people like yourself, scoping out the venue 👍. Bike choice is really up to you. You can do all these trails on a HT no problem. I have ridden them on a fully rigid back in the 90s so a modern HT will be sorted. What I will say is your body will take more of a battering over 43 miles, that's where a full susser will help. If you are used to the type of terrain and you have reasonable fitness (easily do 25 miles off road) then you should be fine. I didn't do a huge amount of "training" and I'm a 50 year old weekend warrior and my bike, though a full susser, only has 130mm/120mm travel. However I knew the terrain very well and knew the sections of the route but it definitely tested me, a bit of pushing on the last couple of climbs I'm not ashamed to admit. My advice would be don't worry about the bike (though get it serviced before if you can) spend a few weeks pushing your miles up and if possible ensure you're comfortable over rocky ground. Let me know how you get on and if you have any other questions....feel free 👍
@MTB Derbyshire Thanks for the advice mate. Im 44 and a weekend warrior. I'm doing a mixture of road and off road 18 mile route at the moment without any issues. I'm going to up that get my fitness up. I run 2 to 3 times a week. I definitely need to get some offroad training in on rough ground. But I signed up to challenge myself 14 weeks to go I should be ok.
You'll be fine I reckon. Definitely up the distance over the coming weeks, get doing a few 30 mile plus routes with ease and you should be good. Climbing is also very significant, it's over 6k of ascents so factor that in. I reckon 30 miles on a canal is probably the same as maybe 10 in the Peak District. Also I forgot to say enjoy the day! If you don't know the area it really is a superb tour of that areas highlights some great descents. 😎👍
Bloody well done!
"I've survived it, shouldn't speak too soon I might get knocked off by a car down here" [tyre skidding] 😆😂🤣 17.00
Perfect timing eh 😜 I was faffing trying to switch camera off, looked up and 😮. Don't think I've ever seen a car on there before

Great vid follow the flow and ride on 🤙
Tough route but a great cause 👍
Crikey what an epic loop. I did the BHF ride in 2016 but don’t think it was as long as this.
Definitely epic! They do three routes a blue that's the first part of the route a red that's a similar distance (21 miles ish) to the blue but more technical (the second half of the vid) and the black....add them together and you have it.
Well done great effort and a great vid showcasing the peaks.
Many thanks! Hard work making it though 🥵🤣
Great stuff again, well done. I really enjoyed the day, and yes I slept very well too
I was buzzing for a bit though. Woke up early the next day ...like a kid at Christmas 🤣
Fantastic job Mate. I was signed up to this but personal stuff at the time meant I couldn’t do it. One of my brothers did though and he said it was the toughest ride he’s ever done so kudos to you all that did it. 👍
Very tough! I'd do it again though....maybe not next year though 😩. Let me know if you fancy the challenge though!
Brilliant to watch. Recognised a fair few of the classic bits. Great achievement mate, well done. Might have a look at the next one. Top job👌
Cheers Mark, yep full of classics. Worth doing and all for a good cause 👌

Would be a great day out with challenges different to the vertical ones. Marc had planned to do it previously I think.
@@MTB_Derbyshire be something totally different, and a good laugh as well 👍🏻
@@ElectricMountainBiker a laugh... until about mile 33. You're hanging in from then onwards 😩
@@MTB_Derbyshire that would be 12 mile onwards for me as would have do it on a non ebike 🫣
Fantastic mate, well done. Looks like you got to take in a ton of great trails on the route too 😃👍

@@MTB_Derbyshire 9,124' of descending yesterday (at least that's what Glyn's Garmin said) 👍
@@Stopadoodledoo I forgot to start recording until after 2 runs I think so it'll be about 9k Yep 👍
Really good effort well done, that's a serious Peaks loop! Would definitely like to try this one myself next year.
Cheers, it's a tough route but full of classics! Get thee sen signed up. 😎👍
Well done... epic ride.
Cheers mate 😎👍
Great ride, well done 👍
Ta mate 👍 cracking day out in the saddle!

"This is why I'd never have a carbon bike" fair comment, just don't say it to anyone who is riding a carbon bike 🤣
🤫 it's a personal opinion and maybe unfounded but they do come with massive protective strips on them .
@@MTB_Derbyshire carbon is shite, my opinion 🙂
