Great video. Followed steps exactly for 2022 X7 M50 install. At first thought radar did not shutoff but does so after about 15 minutes. Uniden R7 Radar. Thanks for making this how to 👊🏽
I just installed a Valentine in my '22 X3 LCI M40i. The color of the wire you tap your red power wire into in the 2nd connector is a red wire. NOTE: Something this video does not tell you is that using this power connection will cause the radar detector to power up every time you open the driver's door You can also tap ground at the brown wire on the other end of the 2nd connector. The second plastic trim he removed requires a LOT of force to separate. It may be better to separate the two halves with a trim tool. The two small connectors required a lot more force to unplug then expected so I used some needle nose pliers. The Valentine's Laser warning was going off so I covered the Gesture control signal source with black tape. The detector stays on after I shut everything off but goes off after 6-7 minutes. Not enough current draw to be a concern but you can always manually turn the power on and off.
Great video. My experience with the wiring. I believe the harness was flipped around in the video. (Unless my harness set up is different) My ground was on the last slot on the right. The power was the same. I have a 2023 X5 M50i.
Thanks for this comment - I have a 2024 X50e and my Uniden Radar R3 won't turn off after following the wiring instructions in the video. Does your radar turn off when you turn the car off?
Just watched this video and used it to MirrorTap my Uniden R8 into my ‘25 G80. It was exactly the same. I wired both the ground and the red (hot) into the lower (black) wiring harness and it worked perfectly and powers off after 10 minutes.
I did the same. The one at the back was so tight i could not fit the black into the brown. So i followed the wire and used the lower black one and the black into the brown took it just fine.
I never thought about doing this. I ran a wire all the way up my a pillar in my F-150.
I'm going to be trying this shortly in my G05 40i.
This is for all the dummies like me. I have a 2007 e90 335i with rain sensors. I tried every combination to do this on the plug that connects to the mirror. I got one combo to work but it stayed on all the time. So after some frustration and many hours I decided to try to tap into the rain sensor. It only has three wires. Red brown and white. Red to red black to brown and it worked perfectly. Starts up when key is turned on and powers down when the car is shut off.
Update: it is working. Took a little longer to turn off but working perfectly. Thanks again.
Great video, thank you! My impatience broke 2-3 taps on those plastic housings, but they hooked up ok. Also, I was not able to get that bottom connector off, so both wires are tapped in on the top connector which gives out constant power. Good thing is that Uniden powers off after one hour of inactivity.
Bryan, can you please give some details on how to disconnect the bottom connector?
Fantastic video! I just wasn’t clear about where you plugged in the other cord to allow the RD to switch off. I’ve done this with all of my other cars, and have been hesitant to tackle my new X5. Think I will look at it this weekend.
I did this on my 2022' X7, per this video and it works. The RD does stay on ( for a few minutes) after turning the vehicle off and locking it. After a few minutes-- it shuts off.
So this works for x7, exactly the same?
I did this to my 2019 x7 and the radar isn’t turning off
Great video. Thank you for sharing this. I performed just as you instructed. I have power but my V1 does not seem to turn off. The light stays on even after the car is locked. 10 minutes later, the light was still on.
Same for me. I wired it and tried BOTH of the red (or hot wires) in the mirror housing and neither appear to switch off with the ignition. It stays on all the time.
Ah....if you wait long enough it does shut down! Such a slick solution!!! Thank you so much. Used the mirrortap accessory to connect to my Valentine1.
My R7 has paid for itself at LEAST 4 times now. This morning it saved me from a state trooper..
and the R7 comes with a much nicer mount other than the double suction cups.. but i'm telling you, if you apply it properly that suction cup IS NOT coming off your window.. I unfortunately flipped my car a couple months ago and the radar was still mounted on the window

Does the gesture control set off the laser detection? I’ve heard somewhere else that if you want laser detection you have to turn the gesture control off.
Yes it does. You can turn off the gesture control operation in iDrive but you can't turn off the gesture control laser transmitter. All you can do is cover the window with tape or disable laser detection on your detector.
who actually uses gesture control?

I still can't figure out where the red wire went.
The detector's red wire plugs into the red wire at the end of the second connector he removed. That connector is below the first connector where the black wire goes.
Great job as always too bad I can’t use RD. In my state one can purchase A firearm, alcohol or cigarettes no problem but radar detector hell no.

Correct. I just performed this process on a 2022 X6 M. I can confirm that if you use the red plug on that smaller harness the radar detector does Not turn off. Must use the bigger plug/harness.
