    I forgot to mention that it is also possible to replace the brush assembly with the alternator still on the vehicle. However, at least when working from the top, it is a pretty difficult spot to access. Sometimes the screws holding the brush assembly can be pretty tight so I preferred to take out the whole alternator and do the brush replacement on the bench where I felt the chances of stripping out a screw was lower. But if you are up for a challenge, doing it on the vehicle is certainly possible and could save you some effort.

    Never thought about it before until I watched this video.

    Excellent detailed videos, I wish you had one on 2020 pilot starter.

    Great video. Seems painful though just to remove the alternator. At 124k miles on 1.5T, did you experience any head gasket failure? Do you use premium fuel also? I keep reading 1.5T engines are notorious for early head gasket failures, so wanted to know whether I should sell my 2019 accord before I approach higher mileage. Thanks.

      Thanks for the comment! I now have about 160k miles on my 1.5T and I have not had any head gasket issue (but I have heard anecdotally about some such failures as well). I do not ever use premium fuel. I do change the oil at the maintenance minder and use full synthetic oil. Good luck with your 2019! I hope both of ours escape any head gasket issues! It is always hard to tell reading on the Internet how widespread the issue really is.

    Got this project to do in a few days. My alternator blew on me and cause alot of problems. I have a 2019 Accord Sport 2.0T 45K miles and honda wants 800$ for the alternator alone. I ended up buying a used OEM on in ebay for $260

      Wow, that's a bummer having the alternator go at 45k miles! Hope the replacement goes smoothly!

      @F jerome I just bought a HO Alt for my car cause I have a powerful sound system installed. Figured replacing the Alt would be easy but dammmm! This looks almost impossible

    Great work! It's a good thing you're not my next door neighbor. I'd be nagging you to death! Maybe I missed it but what prompted you to do this? I have a '18 Accord with just less than 50k miles and like to stay ahead of its maintenance needs. Anything I can do to be proactive is a win.

      Haha, that would be great to be neighbors and trade repair stories! Good question! I replaced the brushes just for preventative maintenance, but it was probably much earlier than it needed to be done since even at 125k miles, the brushes were only about halfway worn down, so it seems like they would easily have made it to 200k miles or more. I have predominantly highway miles, so on a vehicle with more city miles, the brushes might wear out at somewhat lower mileage, but at 50k I expect there would be minimal brush wear. I put on a lot of miles and keep vehicles for a long time. My last Accord made it to 400k miles! So I look for these kinds of things to prevent problems down the road. Thanks for the comment!

      Thanks, interesting, do you mean the sound deadening panel under the intake manifold?

      @John's DIY Odds & Ends where you attach the sound deding he made a cut at the angle just so the alternator can slide up we also unscrew the some line that was cover with metal across the sound deading

    Do you have part number for brush assembly? Or can I call dealer and ask for just that peice?

    • @JohnsDIY
      @JohnsDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      For a 2018 Accord LX 1.5T, the part # is 31105-RL0-G01. But you can easily look up to check the correct part # for your year/trim/engine at most online Honda parts dealers. For example:

      Thanks for the comment. I believe that translates to "It does not show the process of removing the serpentine belt." Good point, the process of removing the belt is covered in a separate video:
