Primus - Over the Electric Grapevine (Frankenstein Edit)

- This is a re-creation of the "Over the Electric Grapevine" video from the Tales From the Punchbowl Enhanced CD, a CD-ROM produced by Primus / Prawn Song in 1996, which sadly is not playable on modern computers.
I refer to this as the "Frankenstein Edit" because it was pieced together from inanimate assets, which I hacked out of the original CD-ROM disk files, and resurrected using Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop.
I had no way to play back the original video, so much of this is pieced together from my own memory, drawing as much as possible from clues in the data within the compiled CD-ROM files. The psychedelic effects + most of the sequencing are my own work, and probably not exactly like the original.
Enjoy. It took a goddamn long time to finish, but it was a labor of love. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
I made this animation in 1995 while working for Ion.I made it overnight on a Mac using Photoshop and laid out in Macromedia Director.
That's so cool. I was obsessed with this CD-ROM when I was 16, and this video was always my favorite. I managed to hack open the Director files on the disk, and it was cool to peek under the hood a bit and see how it was all put together.
Awesome. I am so happy you posted that video. I no longer have the Director files and they probably wouldn't play anymore anyway. Thanks!
You made this? Pretty sure Adam was responsible for this creation.
@@Evi1penguin5 Adam made the drawings. I cut it up and animated in in Director.
@@MrPatknoff yes can definitely tell its Adams art. Nice work animating though!
I love that the license plate says “FRIZFRY” I love that reference.
This is gorgeous my friend. As a relative of Adams I know he would highly appreciate your hardwork into preserving this epic memory. Thank you.
I've come back to watch this video at least 20 times this week
Goddamn I love this song. Especially live...everyone really grooves to it.
Me and my brother were driving home at night, and suddenly this started playing from my usb connected to radio. Now every time we drive at night he asks me to "turn on the NA NA NAAAAAA NA"
amazing job! the original video was uploaded to youtube 3 years ago and this was almost spot on
drummer is INSANE. love him
Thanks for sharing this! I still have my CD ROM!
Sounds so clean. Thx, Captain!
Brings back memories...I even had the Primus t-shirt with those to guys on the front. I loved that t-shirt, bloody awesome song. Thanks for sharing this!
VERY 90's - complete with trippy/traumatizing visuals. I like it!
Fantastic!!! I remember this very well. You've done a great job.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
My all -time favorite Primus CD. Insane drum parts. Wish they've made more visual content however, wicked such as this. Thanxx.
Who was the drummer on this?
@@carpediemarts705 Tim Alexander
4:46 - 6:16 is the top of Psychedelic Peak for me.
They should have used this during the A Tribute To Kings tour, it would fit in perfectly considering they used Salad Fingers for Those Damned Blue-Collared Tweekers
I was just listening to Tales from the Punchbowl. Love the video! 🤘
Brilliant! I loved those old skool flash video s. I often wonder why more CDs weren't released with videos like that.
Wow! Well done. Ive had a couple of these nights myself back in the day...searching for Chuckles and the others.
Turns out Chuckles was just with Harold of the Rocks, at the time.
GOOD JOB!!!
The album when it came out had a cdrom interactive content sticker on it. All of the songs had music videos. I've tried to put my original cd into the computer, but its from 1996. So.....good luck
Awesome, thanks for your hard work!
i had this and only got to see the extra features one time and was blown away. there was so much on there.
dude great F'n job! this is fantastic. Kudos of course to the original artist - not sure where yours takes over, but the outcome is fantastic.
Introduce yourself - Faith no more?! 😃
that's what I think - both SF bands - they all keep tight.
This oddly reminds me of the curse of King Ramses from the beginning of the episode of Courage...
Return the Slab...... .
This is pretty good.
even though this is obviously about les and his friend, i feel there's gotta be a Fear and Loathing reference somewhere in here
why am I thinking of beavis and butthead when I see this?
Two stupid and weird looking lads
Adam loves beavis and butthead. So does Les. Loosely inspired wouldn't surprise me!
100th subscriber!
Welcome aboard!
Fucking sick, definitely getting like steadmans art, especially in like fear and loathing in Vegas, type of vibes from this, I guess there both about trippin acid on the road so it makes sense
bravo ! my favorite song
I think you got about as close as physically possible for simply going off memory. I definitely watched/played with that release on my computer enough to have worn it out if it were a record/vinyl or a cassette LoL.
You know.....I think I have an old laptop that will still play the enhanced cd of Tales...
Hmmmmm.....
Awesome

Yes!!! 💚
The fact in 6 years this effort has only garnered 466 likes is why God is returning to cull humanity once more. Our hubris and cup of iniquity runneth over once again.
I however do appreciate this awesome edit and hopefully will see a selfless soul such as yourself after the rapture
This comment warms my heart. If you are left behind, perhaps I will see you then.
I’ve always wondered.
Introduce yourself.
Faith No more ref?
Cuz damn that’s a good song.
Yup, he's referring to FNM. A neat thing about this song is that it recounts a real event, where Les and Adam drove from San Fran down to LA (high on LSD), and most of the stuff mentioned in the lyrics can be taken literally, from the seats being sticky from candy, to hearing Faith No More on the radio.
A couple of years ago Les and Adam talked about the song, and their recollections of that evening, in an episode of the "Primus Tracks" podcast (March 30, 2021 / Episode titled "Drawn Into The Grapevine w/ Soya, Rory Dolan, Adam Gates, and some guy named Les Claypool"). It's a great listen.
Awesome!! Great job!!! Any chance of doing the other videos from this album?
Optimus Primus
I had this on cassette and I’m sure as shit that this song was also called Frizzle Bob on side 2 of the tape
Anyone else have the tape and notice that ?
I Love this album, and also the booklet.
This song is one my fav ever.
But, what the F*** does Les mean with "Viva Le France"?
Ps: I've always thought he was saying "we'll be friends"
is it me or does the lead singer sound really like the lead guy from suicidal tendencies lol
if the footage in th-cam.com/video/vBkzjfauOqE/w-d-xo.html
is the real deal, then hot damn, this recreation truly is impressive
How do you play this cd? Since you cant on modern computers
