Tanya's case is absolutely disgusting. As soon as she mentioned the drastic growth spurt and migraines, the symptoms should have screamed "tumour on pituitary" to ANY medical professional.
I like to do this thing where I sort of "diagnose" someone based on the presentation of their symptoms ( on this show). My first guess was pituitary tumor, as soon as she mentions her growth. When she mentions the headaches and sounds I though maybe a brain tumor due to the intensity and duration, but after that, it immediately became clear what it was.
I am sure if they looked further into it earlier the tumor wouldn’t have grown that much! NOTE TO DOCTORS; stop sending us away saying it’s just a virus!
Because of these episodes, while i circulate around my patients, and i notice a devastated patient who is struggling with the wrong diagnosis, i push him, go find a doctor who listens, don't accept pain, I'm sure there's a specialist who will diagnose you.
I felt so sorry for Tanya, who passed away with a massive tumour on her head and kept on growing. :( At least, she kept fighting so hard during the beginning of her diagnosis. RIP Tanya.
Doctors should be required to watch every episode of this show in medical school, especially this episode, and the episode featuring Mary Ann Piazza, to remind them of the consequences of not listening to patients.
The trouble is that they actively teach the opposite, they teach them if it walks like a horse and acts like a horse then its a horse (they refuse to consider that its a zebra) this metaphor is well known about the medical industry. Its getting better as doctors become more diverse and no longer just a job for arrogant old guys.
I was diagnosed with a stage 1 pituitary tumour, which is changing into a grade 2. Was misdiagnosed for seven years, also had present low graded cancer cells else where. So inspiration to see people fighting for answers.
Tanya’s bf saw the changes but instead of helping her he just abandoned her. And I don’t understand why she didn’t see the family friend doctor when she first started having headaches? Unfortunately, many doctors don’t seem to take anyone seriously when they say I know something is very wrong with me and give all the horrible symptoms then tell them it’s there imagination. It took me over ten years to finally find doctors that believed I was actually suffering so much pain. You really do have to fight for yourself to get the answers you need.
Surgery every 3 months!!?? standing salute to kody, what a soldier! Hope Tanya received the love and support she would have got today when this first aired
I guessed Tanya's diagnosis pretty quickly... Honestly though she seems like a lovely person and I'd like to have a chat with her. I don't care what she looks like. Edit: I just read that she sadly passed away in 2013. RIP. I hope she went peacefully and with family.
Guessing Acromegaly, tumor on pituitary. Will see as show unfolds. Would be disgusted if Drs missed that for too long. Yep disgusted with preceding doctors. Her features were unmissable. If I a retired nurse could pick it up with no diagnostic tools, just by looks, how could all those doctors miss it?....... no excuse. Oops, I suppose I could have read the summary. Didn't see it until end of video.
Me too! As soon as I saw her- I knew her diagnosis! How professional doctors couldn’t notice just OBVIOUS symptoms right in FRONT OF THEIR EYES?! 🤦🏻♂️
I knew straight away. Not by the exact name, but I knew that she had 1) gigantism caused by a tumor, 2) excessive release of growth-hormone caused by said tumor. I am not a medical professional at all. This was ridiculous.
I watched this series(alongside Extraordinary People) a lot as a kid, and I've been rewatching it over the past year or so. I was going through the playlist, looking for any I had missed. This one is one I saw as a child, and hadn't seen since. It's so nostalgic
I watch a LOT of these shows. They bring to the fore, rarely seen conditions that need way more study and support what they currently get. The sad thing is, as soon as i saw Tanyas' face, i KNEW that she had a pituitary tumor. And no. I did not read the blurb first. And no, I'm not a doctor. Spread these docos far and wide in the hope that it helps someone you know.
"When I look in the mirror today I see a frightened little girl who grew up to be a giant." How sad. Tanya's story makes me feel so sick to my stomach thinking about the wonderful life she could have had if someone would have listened to her in the beginning. Tanya was more than her condition and I hope she felt love and support in her last years. Rest easy Tanya ❤ your story breaks my heart
ComedyCentre I know right like the case of paralysis episode of gullian barre syndrome and lemierres syndrome are so fascinating I watched them multiple times
As soon as I saw Tanya I knew she had acromegaly and it’s usually I pituitary tumour , so awful . Had it Been recognised earlier she could have had the op through her nose ,it was to big by time they found it 🥺
I´ve seen this episode, about 3 years ago, its so sad to know what a pituitary tumour can make out of you, Tanya had all her life in front her, and this horrible disease took it away.
In the case of Kody, it´s not surgery every 3 months, I think it´s more of a procedure - just like endoscopy... there´s got to be a cure somewhere to avoid those growths... hopefully, the situation is resolved by now... 2020....
@Ruud Plymouth I know that but vertical growth shouldn't be affected no matter the amount of growth hormone produced once the epiphyses have closed. Maybe she was a late bloomer and they were still open.
@Ruud Plymouth Adam Rainer started growing around 21 I believe but he already had a condition which likely delayed epiphyseal closure, not to mention people matured slower many years ago. Growth Hormone normally suppresses gonadotropins which would explain why her epiphyses never closed, also the huge amounts of growth hormone would cause her bones to keep growing without giving the epiphysis a chance to close. Thats my guess anyway.
In the picture where she was young, you can see that she was a mature woman, that means she passed puberty. In the case of Adam Rainer, it appears that he had late puberty and a tumor on his pituitary gland caused him to grow taller. But I have no explanation why Tanya grew so fast considering that her growth zones are most likely closed. I read somewhere about a man who got a tumor on his pituitary gland and the doctors did an operation to close the growth zone, but he was still growing in his legs and in his spine. I think that bones as well as bone growth itself have not been researched enough and that we are missing some part of the puzzle.
I work in a NICU and usually if we know the mum has HPV we can treat the baby for it straight after birth. It's not such a huge issue when you're aware mum has it anymore
yes. watch further to learn why. she developed more masculine features and she hated it. her boyfriend dropped her because she "looks like a guy". (which was not nice but well, it was teenage love, not a marriage)
Tanya's case is absolutely disgusting. As soon as she mentioned the drastic growth spurt and migraines, the symptoms should have screamed "tumour on pituitary" to ANY medical professional.
I agree only a fool would consider it a normal growth spurt.where do these doctors get their degrees
Jasmine Ferozepurwalla eBay
Forget medical professionals... even a teeny tiny teen interested in tumours can identify the symptoms (idk abt others but it sure is true for me)
The lack of basic knowledge in nowadays doctors is horrifying.
Half of them should not be allowed into the job, easily.

Tanya Angus passed away 14 Jan 2013 in LA. RIP
😭😢
That is so sad. Thank for letting us know 🥺
Rest in peace 😫
😢
So sad 😥😥
Tanya's story is so heartbreaking. If only the doctors had found it sooner...
i guess ifother doctors found sooner what tanyas acromegaly symptoms was causing, she might still be alive. R.I.P Tanya Angus
I'm normally a chill person, but tanya's doctors need to be sued and fired.

To think a PEDIATRICIAN found the problem ... so sad 😔 RIP TANYA ❤💕❤
Old documentary, Tanya has died years ago. What an awful thing to happen to you. :(

A mom knows everything!!
RIP Tanya ❤
I'm so sorry 💔
I've only watched ~7 minutes so far but I'm going to guess that it's some sort of problem with the pituitary gland.
I was right.
Ditto
Unsolvable Captcha f’in doctors.
Same here!
RIP Tanya😔
What happened to Tanya on her last days? What exactly was it that killed her in the end?
Who can know that? Obviously, just her family and maybe friends
Rest well my love ❤
Can you please upload trapped inside their bodies episode or fight to the last breath
XxJLollyxX YT Yeh I want to see these episodes too. None of series 10 is available anywhere for some reason
ComedyCentre I wish they would put series 10 episodes on Amazon prime video
XxJLollyxX YT Same many of the episodes sound really interesting based off their descriptions.
ComedyCentre I know right like the case of paralysis episode of gullian barre syndrome and lemierres syndrome are so fascinating I watched them multiple times

Hope she’s at peace now
love you Tanya. You are an inspiration.

Why didn't the first or second doctor take aTanya for an MRI?
She passed away at 34
this is the only case out of all of these that makes you angry, its so obvious, yet all these doctors somehow couldnt figure it out, blows my mind.
The boyfriend was a real gem 😏
Right???
Yeah.
I'm not a doctor but I could guess Tanya had a growth on her petulitary gland
Savannah Corbett Her what?
@@eneedham789 pituitary gland
People can be cruel ❤
tanya died in 2013 bless her rip
How was she able to grow so late? Especially as a woman.

@@bettyswollocks4353 i wonder the same thing
@@bettyswollocks4353 so you think she developed cancer way eaelier ?

R.i.p tanya lost her life at the age of 34
Tanya passed away 😢…
So many incompetent doctor’s in America…it’s obvious she has something wrong, I really feel so sorry for Tania
I wonder if Kody married Sarena.
Tanya, you are beautiful. Don't forget that.
She died in 2013
Doctors need to be struck off
Ive watched loads of these and a pattern is forming. It's NEVER the doctors fault 🤔😅
Genital warts? Growing in the throat? Passed on by the mother? X
Tanya is so sweet and delicious!❤
If I’m now incorrect, that happened because the mom had HVP and had Kody vaginally. I have it and I researched and I had my children via c section
Jacklyn Adames what is HVP? I’d love to know.
I work in a NICU and usually if we know the mum has HPV we can treat the baby for it straight after birth. It's not such a huge issue when you're aware mum has it anymore
It's actually HPV. Human Papillomavirus
they found no evidence the mother ever had HPV though
Luckily I had my vaccination against that virus previously this week-
Is it a man ?
What do you mean?
First
want a medal?
The first on sounds like a guy
yes. watch further to learn why. she developed more masculine features and she hated it.
her boyfriend dropped her because she "looks like a guy". (which was not nice but well, it was teenage love, not a marriage)
The first story along with couple cases in other episodes where bones turn to stone are BY FAR the most depressing in the whole series
