    Thanks for the video. I made the mistake of waking my fig up during the long dark winter and then putting it out too early. The tree grew long spindly limbs during it's time inside, then completely stopped when I set it out. Dropped most of its leaves too. Now it's finally sprouting new leaves and it looks like there is a few fruit buds too, but the limbs are so long and thin and spindly and growing longer still. I doubt it could even carry fruits if it ends up growing them. From what I have learned watching videos, I'm gonna leave it be until the autumn and when it goes dormant again, I'm going to prune it back hard to encourage thicker growth and more branching. I'm not sure if I've got the right idea, but the tree has been very forgiving so far.

    My figs went in the ground this spring. Thanks to your wisdom, they look great! In SE TX, we are drowning in rain. They are planted high but can only take so much.
    I rednecked the shaping with twine and garden stakes. Along with rocks to weight them. Not pretty, but works.
    THANK YOU!

    My first year growing figs. The tip on pinching the top off is helpful and I will be applying it to my plants. About how tall do you like them to get before pinching? Thanks for sharing.

    Will pinching water shoots / suckers in September encourage lignification by the winter?

    • @RossRaddi
      @RossRaddi  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If the tree stops growing. If you want better lignification, it's all about minimizing your winter pruning.

    Ross, I cut some of my single whip trees down to 15 inches over winter and uppoted them. These were all very healthy but are now showing very bad FMV growth. Sad to see really, and surprising. Any advice on dealing with this?

    It's probably too late to ask this question, but I will ask . My fig tree is now 4 years old. It only produces green fruit. I chainsawed it the other day and there are two large stalks that are about 3 ft high. Should I
    finish chopping it down or leave it alone? Unfortunately, I listened to a neighbor that told me there were some varieties that only produce green fruit. Wish I had found you before I took the chainsaw to it

    Can you over fertilize a potted fig tree?

    • @RossRaddi

      Absolutely. The biproduct is salt when you use synthetic fertilizers. Too much salt in the soil can damage the roots.
