Great video Harrison, the shots and the narration as well! The Housatonic's in one scenic area and with the beautiful old station all I could think of was "Now THIS is a line tailor-made for a steam tourist railroad!" And that Bangor & Aroostock Geep was a nice surprise! I didn't think there were any relics of that old Maine potato hauling road around anymore! 😃 Thanks as usual for bringing us along!
I work for railworks and we laid the ties in 2019 from Pittsfield to Canaan then we went back the following year and started laying new rail it was a 4 or 5 phase program that we did every year after that im guessing they had to wait to get funds from the state to do more rail and believe me locals from Great Barrington were not happy with that and that didn't like the noise we made going through there as some of the houses were literally right next to the tracks but it was a beautiful place with amazing scenery i have tons of pictures i took from that job im glad there are people out there that enjoy this as much as i like doing it awesome job
Great Video!!! Certainly nailed the good spots. West Cornwall use to be 25mph. But the jointed rail surrounding it began to deteriorate. Info was spot on. Great Job!!
Fantastic video! Great chase along River Rd. I grew up in West Hartford, so drives and bike rides to Litchfield County were frequent. I have always loved the Housy. Remember that in the New Haven years, this line saw regular passenger service from GCT to Pittsfield. And the NH ran heavy freights, usually at night, that served industries along the way from Danbury north. Canaan station is a beautiful depot. Great work on locations scouting. You hit all the key spots. 🙏
@@NorthCountryTrains I wouldn’t hold your breath for passenger service on the HRRC. Amtrak has a weekend Berkshire train that goes east from Albany on the B&A to Pittsfield. There are better ways to travel to the Berkshires.
We're in West Hartford too Doug... Have taken many trips up to Canaan to visit the "Y" and station. Remember when in burnt down, then was rebuilt. My oldest son is interviewing with the Housatonic for a Conductor job. Doing a ride along with the Sunday crew today as a matter of fact. Hoping he gets the job, so I can get the inside scoop on the RR.
Enjoyed the 'who's chasing who' vid. Got some cool shots including the puffs of dust at the dirt road crossings, even at that speed. Nice work by both of you!
Great railfaning video! Very scenic railroad with handsome and historic station. You recorded this at the right time. Before all the folliage had bloomed. Would be worth a return in the fall and snowy winter.
I wouldn’t be all that surprised if post 10 knows about the Housatonic Railroad. He’s been over to steep rock a few times which isn’t far from Hawlyville
@@NorthCountryTrains do they haul Stone as well I have a few short lines around where I'm at one of them used to go up to Sandusky Ohio and the other one used to go down to Shawnee and New Straightsville Ohio there are a few more as well
@@LunarEquity93 HRRC doesn’t haul stone that I know of. However, I featured dedicated stone hauler New Hampshire Northcoast in a recent video from the area.
@@NorthCountryTrains Cool I figured I'd ask I have stone trains around where I live they're run by Ohio Central and the Genesee and Wyoming Railroad company I heard from a TH-camr saying that there's a major possibility that Ohio Central will run Stone trains to St Louisville Ohio and hopefully Mount Vernon Ohio in the future I can't wait for that
Great video!! Coincidentally... My oldest son is doing a ride along today with the Sunday crew as part of a job interview/trial. He's trying to get a job with the Housatonic as a switchman/conductor, after working out in Oregon on the Union Pacific for the last two years. Coincidence #2... I see someone in the comments calling you "Harrison". That happens to be my son's name too. Again, great video/follow along. Going to have to get out there this spring and try something similar.
NO WAY! As I type this I’m standing at North Canaan waiting for NX12! That’s a CRAZY coincidence!!! This is the first time I’ve returned since filming this video.
@@NorthCountryTrains Not sure... Don't think it is the morning crew, he's still waiting for them to call him in. Must be NX13. The job he's interviewing for is for a conductor on their weekend shift. It's a "call" type job, where you come in when called.
@@NorthCountryTrains Just talked to him... They want him for 11:30AM. So he's either hopping on with the NX12 crew, or will join the NX13 crew after some orientation and maybe a walk around the shop. Will know better later today once he returns home. Hope he gets the job... Looks like a really good regional short line to work for. His experience with the UP was good, but it was a crappy company to work for.
@@NorthCountryTrains Definitely the NX13 crew Harrison... As a matter of fact, I think he even saw you and a few other guys taking video of the train. He said he saw a few guys hanging around with cameras and taking video at one point during the afternoon. Looks like he's going to be the new conductor/switchman on the NX13 crew. Provided he passes the physical and drug test (not a problem for either of these) and his documentation from the UP comes through, he has the job.
Your pretty good at getting shots of old locomotives I actually only like older locomotives the Dash 9 locomotive rules the rails but I hate those units way to many of them
Great video. I live at the end of that line in Danbury, so we don't get to see much action becasue a lot of movement is at night. Nice to see the line from New Milford to Caanan. If you ever get to Danbury and visit the Danbury Railway Museum, let me know, would be happy to chat with you. Keep up the good work.
@@NorthCountryTrains Yes they should be open. Also can you make a picture of an HO scale car with the Z scale car you have, as I want to create a scene on my HO railroad. Thanks.
Yeah the Massachusetts portion of track is owned by the state. Which is why it’s so maintained

Great catches and nice video

AN SP BOXCAR......WOW!!!!!!
We see them from time to time…
Cool signals at 2:38
I only just noticed those- awesome!
When do they usually make a north run to Pittsfield?
Good job
Wow great catch how often does this train run
Wait, are they selling off the gp35's or what? Never have known very much about this little Short Line other than the basics.
GP35s are all OOS and stored at Canaan
I noticed some of the trash cars they haul too Ohio Central does that

Yes
