    Fresh lingcod skin is said to be the best lingcod bait. Strong scent and nice fluttering action. Also a tail tied seabass, no hooks. It sends off distress signals. He just comes up and swallows it. Reel the ling up slow and he won't let go. Caught a 25 pounder once on a 2 pound bass. Just gaff him before his eyes clear the water.

    Sorry it took you so long to experience the Dory Fishery. I started commercial fishing at PC in 69 and worked for an old timer in 70. Learned the hard lessons and then moved on to Newport on a big boat in 71 before leaving for Coast Guard basic and 4 years of adventures...

      So very cool! Wish I had the opportunity to fish those days but wasn't born until '81! ThTs fantastic that you were in the USCG for a few years as well!

      My last year fishing at PC was 76. I went down and ran a friend's boat commercially. We were having a bad year and some days did not even pay for fuel. After 2 weeks I pulled the plug and came back to the valley to get full time work. I really miss fishing in the dories. I am too old now to buy a dory and go out...

    I think I heard you mention 8 fish bag limit in this video. For the life of me, I cannot find anywhere in the regs with a bag limit that high for bottomfish, or even bottomfish and lings combined. Where you adding in the 1 fish bag limit of halibut into that math? Thanks!

    • @DayOneOutdoors
      @DayOneOutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When we filmed this episode, the bag limit at the time was 8 total. 6 Rockfish and 2 lings per person I believe. The regs are different this year for sure! Always check the regs before going fishing as they change every year and even within a season!

      @@DayOneOutdoors I kayak fish off Cape Kiwanda, Depoe Bay and several other kayak accessable areas up and down the coast. Been doing so every year since 2008.
      Unfortunately I haven't been on the ocean since Labor Day 2019 when the season came to a close, and spring 2020 was interrupted by Covid. I respected the coastal communities requests to not visit them as they had limited resources as is to deal with Covid outbreaks. 2021 was all about traveling around Montana, and SE Oregon desert for several months.
      I hope to get back out in the ocean this spring/summer for sure!
