    The Gambler's Chest Expansion comes with armor set miniatures which are less customizability than the older ones, but they still allow for multiple poses and weapon options. You can make an argument for standees without outright misrepresenting what's in the box, I think.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Outright misrepresenting?
      Strong words. The original goal and dream of each model being customizable has changed - that’s the claim we made. You can’t do that anymore.

      @HaleysRedComet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Quackalope I said what I said. This whole video is full of nonsense, but it's subjective nonsense. Ignoring the armor kit miniatures that are still in the GCE to make some dumb point about the narrative minis is misrepresenting.

      In fact, at 8:12 you say "They're not doing the customizable models any more". You completely disregard the armor kits in the Gambler's Chest, which is what got me writing my original comment. If you do not want push back then please be more accurate with your statements. Earlier Shira said that you are "stuck" with 2 male and 2 female survivors, which is only true if you don't build any of the 32 other survivor kits in just the core box.
      This whole video is a bad sales pitch full of outright misrepresentations and poor arguments for a product you're not even making.

    I don't want models to go away. Narrative sculpts are sick af but I cannot agree more that acrylics coming with them for the art is brilliant. And we usually sit 2 players per side of the table so we will always be at the perfect viewing angle.

    I do love miniatures in my Games, I play many Dungeon Craws, I don't really want them all turning to Acrylic Standees, that said ... Now this game I have no played and having to put minis together to me is fine, but it really doesnt belong in a Board game. as for portability, like my Imperial Assault, I have it all, tons of minis and expansions, they all moved to a Mini Transport case with its components, But it really isnt much larger than the stack of Core and expansions boxes. Now as for your Kingdom Death Monsters, they could do like Joan of Ark, move to a smaller Miniature scale (This said my JoA Boxes stack is over 6' Tall, But it has Thousands of minis) ... One the problems is Game snow think they need Larger and larger enemys, Even JoA with its Tiny Minis had one Super Larger Dragon, which I did get because it is great looking to display. Idea.. sell Games without minis or standees with upgrade packs of each (With the ability to store them IN the boxes they come in),

    Personally I wouldn't want them to ever take their eye off the goal of creating a grandiose spectacle of a game. They should always be moving forward to whatever the next bigger, darker, part of the story they want to tell is. I just think they should avoid rehashing the game into something that dilutes Adam's original vision.
    KDM is not a game that I personally would take on the road with me, there's a million other smaller games for that - KDM is a game for filling my home with, a centerpiece of my games collection, and and adventure just waiting to happen...
    What madness comes after an acrylic version? KDM Pocket Edition - with a small peg-board like Battleships but with different colored pegs to represent players and the monsters? #SaveKDMFromThisMadness

      @@Quackalope The difference for me is that the digital world allows them to create the exact same thing in digital form which can allow gaming at a distance, whilst providing the ability to enhance the environment and do cool special effects. Acrylics, and again this is just my opinion, remove a very tactile element of the game and for me would remove a lot of the immersion. @drak99 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    While this is a neat idea, I think it comes from a place of misunderstanding. It isn't everyone's goal to cater to the most people or even make the most money. Sometimes respecting that a vision as an author or artist presents it means respecting that maybe that vision is not for you. There are plenty of other things that are the things you mention, just not this one, I will bring up Dark Souls and the creators being adamant that they are not interested in making an "easy" mode of the game, that is not their vision and that has to matter. And while this video addresses the digital experience, that did not come out of the blue without context. That was a direct response to Covid... Adam was trying to adapt to an uncertain world (he even wrote about thinking of developing it just so they could keep playtesting stuff after using other platforms), and mostly to create a way that would protect them from eventual repeats or similar events, after that it got launched.
    But yeah while a neat concept, trying to push creators to make the game you want or even telling them about profits. Without wanting to speak for Adam, but it has never been about making more money for KD, they still do pretty well with their sporadic sales of limited minis (with most selling out in a couple days) so yeah. While this would definitely appeal to more people, and it sounds like a neat idea upfront. Unless Adam's vision for his game changes, I don't see anything like this happening.
    And personally I would much rather see them invest the time and effort to some of the ideas that they still have in the works (an RPG, different types of expansions and deeper content into the lore etc) than a remake of the same game, but for a wider audience.
    Personal opinion btw! I still think its a neat idea :) just thought of pointing out some stuff.

    Might not be fair, since i came from 40k but like…
    it’s a hobby game. Its not a traditional board game at all.
    And if you have green stuff, then paint your models!

  • @tobyrothenborg6164
    @tobyrothenborg6164 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Most of these arguments are odd.
    You want to be able to make the game portable? But some feldherr foam and put it in box. I’ve safely transported the game dozens of times, without any issues.
    As far as the “hobby” barrier, personally I never though I’d assemble or paint any miniatures, as I didn’t find it appealing at all. When I got my hands on KDM, I was “forced” to do it. Sure I still have a lot of unassembled stuff, but that’s mostly extra armor kits. It didn’t take that long to assemble and give something a basic paint job.
    You have storage issues, because you haven’t bought a shelf. Go do it, today, and there storage issue is solved.
    KDM is not accessible by default, it’s a deliberate choice to not go to compromise with their vision for accessibility (and profit). I don’t know why you are trying to force this upon APG.

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wait . . . you are arguing that foam is a big of an improvement as no minis would be?
      Yes, the hobby side of the game is fun to do and often surprises people with how much they enjoy it . . . but . . . I know so many who don't have the game due to this point alone. Or, don't have it ready to play.
      Great . . . everyone needs and has space and money for a new shelf just for KDM.
      I want APG to do well and make more, I want more people to play KDM.
      Your counter arguments are funny.

    Sorry for the following Wall of text, I became very inspired to write it
    I think I might be in the minority here but, I don't think KDM is supposed to be accessible, it's not supposed to travel with you, to me that would take away from what it is, this massive monolith of darkness and death is not something that bends to your will, it's not something friendly to you, or to your wallet, no KDM is something that you aspire to beat, its something that imposes on your life, your living space, your patience, you play KDm in-spite of what KDm really is, I honestly feel that by taking all of what it is away, by replacing the plastic with Acrylics, by making it easier to move around you rob it of its essence, let me tell you a short Story, I Live in Mexico so getting this game for me meant to take a second job on my spare time and save up for this beast for a good 4 months, then when I finally had the money for it it was sold out, after waiting some more months I was able to finally get it, seems simple right? but do you know what this really meant? I had overcome the first Two Massive hurdles this game presents you with, ease of purchase and availability, you need to want this game enough to save up for it, to look for it when it is available on the site, and this, to me, to many will be the first and only victories we will have against it.
    When you open that grim monolith, you explore its dark beauty you open up the miniatures box and see the sea of plastic staring back at you you might be tempted to stop, to turn back, but no, this is the game's Third Challenge, build me it whispers, build my minis without a proper guide, pray to the wind, pray to your lantern for help whatever help it can offer.
    Again it gives you another lesson, this game is not a mere filler game, this game will not be forgotten, it is memorable, it is Eternal, and it is something that you will become a part of eventually, swallowed into its deep dark depths, fighting against everything it will throw at you.
    so no Sir, this game does not need Acrylics, it should not be something that you can just pick up and take with you, no this game, this entity demands respect, it demands for you to bend to it, not the other way around. if nothing in the game bends to the player's will, why would the game itself do so?

    This would be great. I sold all my KDM because it was just too much of a hobby outside of just enjoying the game and I have way too many games and storage is a premium. If KDM 2.0 has an acyrlic standee version (like Kinfire Chronicals boss battler) I would be all over buying the game again. There are so many people that will not buy KDM just because of the reason I sold it (forced to do an entire hobby outside of just playing the game) and I see threads all the time. I have my doubts it will happen, but it would be great.
    There is so much competition now when it comes to boss battlers and mini games in general and they all have pre-built minis that look just as good to me. Plus not only is acrylic easier to store and durrable, but it is beautiful because you get to see the amazing art from the artists and there is no need to speend hours and hours painting and building. I would expect the price lower though. I mean if I could get the base game in KS with Gamblers as it is now for $300, I think there is room in the price. Also could you imagine how amazing colored Acrylic tile terrain! It would look great and not get in the way of minitures.

    Games having a standee version has been a tipping point for me to back it at crowdfunding. I may be wrong, but I feel the solution for most games would be to remove minis from the games and offer them as addons only. This makes a game more accessible without having to create two versions. Mini versions tend to cost more in most cases, so those who want the minis can't complain about having to pay for an addon as the price increase is always there anyway. This just allows those who don't want minis to get the game at a slightly lower price point.
    One game I backed because they offered a standee version was Nemesis Retaliation. My only problem with that campaign was that none of the expansions (new characters and alien races) came with standees. This is where having the game and expansions come with standees only and having a box or boxes of minis as an addon would have worked great.
    All that to say, yes, to a KDM standee version! Lol

    Im not so sure the price point would be lower, but it would be an acceptable trade for portability. Like you, I think I would buy another copy of the game simply for that aspect. This is coming from someone who is also going to buy another copy if they discount the game like they did at last year's Black Friday sale.
    Just looking back on the success Shadowborne Games had with Oathsworn, and its two distinct versions, shows that there would be a market for both versions. Just like with KDM, porting that game and its 4 huge boxes around can be a chore... though at least that game all fits back into its boxes. The same goes for Dragori Games and Tanares Adventures. Having a more portable option for people is a huge plus. Having jumped in on the third printing of Tanares myself, I'm wondering where exactly all those boxes are going to go when they arrive. And you know they all wont travel with me if I bring the game along. It will be enough of a burden to bring the two ultimate boxes.
    Having multiple versions would be a huge plus. KDM is absolutely a game I would (and do) deluxify. The hardest part would be actually going back and remaking versions of stuff that is already available. Im not so sure how viable that would be.

    • @Quackalope

      They would just need to do an acrylic upgrade kit with the artwork they have already produced! They don’t need to do all the past resin models either - just a collection of them would be perfectly fine :) or a slow roll of 10-20 a pack over the course of a few years!
      I get the idea back when KDM launched . . . but now the whole industry has changed and the game needs to right alongside it!

    They should work on a cheaper version because the shipping to latam on top of the game is my networth :(

    I also disagree. I know the more options better argument but I feel like the game would lose too much charm. Everyone should experience it with minis imo. If you’re interested, buy it. If you don’t like it sell it. There are always buyers.

      Maybe, I love acrylic. I would agree that there should never be a cardboard version of KDM - but Acrylic with the artwork would feel like a upgrade / deluxification compared to my grey or poorly painted minis.

    I'd be willing to give Kingdom Death a try if it had a less expensive standee version.
    I sometimes enjoy painting miniatures, but I absolutely do not enjoy assembling them.
    Also, Monster Fight Club is making acrylic standees for their Cyberpunk Edgerunners/ Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, and I'm looking forward to seeing if other publishers will be following after them.

    I would buy an acrylic version, for sure. No interest in massive miniatures at all.
