    I really don’t understand a lot of the points you’re trying to make.
    ‘Don’t buy Rolling Realms Redux because it’s too much of a closed system.’
    What does that even mean?
    ‘I haven’t heard of half of the games Rolling Realms Redux is based on.’
    I guess Gencon attendees shouldn’t buy it there then because of your board game ignorance of fantastic designs that don’t have Kingdom Death in the title.
    ‘Don’t buy the Aquatica expansion because I’ve cooled on the base game.’ That is outstanding motivation.
    ‘Don’t buy Rock Hard’ because music themed games don’t do well on the BGG rankings.’
    How well have board games about birds done before Wingspan was released?
    ‘You need to play Arcs multiple times to see its full potential.’
    Isn’t that the case with most remarkable games that stand the test of time? Your argument also disqualifies campaign games being sold at GenCon.
    ‘UAP. The name already turns me off.’
    You don’t like the game title so don’t buy it at the convention. Brilliant.
    ‘Don’t buy UAP because it will be available down the road’
    Yup. Just like the majority of games at GenCon.

    I am glad i didn't fall for the bait and backed Moonrakers that you promoted on your channel for weeks, telling people that it's an absolute beast of a game, while the creators of the game were hanging at your house all the time. It was overpriced fomo and barely made it to top 1000 on BGG. You never mentionned the game again, after people paid the insane price. The game was even broken without expansions (running out of cards before game end).
    Now i finally played Arcs and the whole group loved it. It is so rare that you can find such a beautiful great package at such a low price. Crticizing one of the best 50$ games you can get while you were promoting a 200$ card game, because you are friends with the creators. Ouch!

    • @Quackalope
      @Quackalope  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I mean - that would be a solid argument snd callout if only it were accurate. We love and still love Moonrakers - I think the expansions brining it into the high 8-9 out of 10 range for me. It’s not perfect for every group and neither is Arcs but it’s great for the right groups.
      Also - good on you picking and choosing the numbers. I didn’t pay $50 for Arcs. I paid a whole lot more on KS. You know what I did spend $50 on - garbage miniatures that I will never use in the game. You know what else I can get for around $65 . . . Moonrakers. lol

    • @MakeYourHeartBeat

      @@Quackalope Arcs base is 50,99€. Moonrakers base is 79,99€. Arcs base is complete. Moonrakers base is missing many KS exclusive stuff + as i said, the base game is broken, so you need at least one expansion to never run out of cards before game end.
      Why the hell did you buy all the plastic minis then? That was completely optional and is 100% on you! Buying them and later calling them "garbage" is probably the stupidest comment I ever read from a boardgame reviewer, especially because the quality is perfectly fine! My two gripes about the games on the floor were: #1 Miniaturized boards and cards with print too small for my old eyes to read without a magnifier, and #2 Expensive and huge game boxes with needless plastic pieces. Prime examples: You could spend over $200 for a blinged out and complex "Wyrmspan" (nearly $70 for the base cardboard) or a discounted and miniaturized and much cheaper (just under $40) "Dungeon Petz" by Czech Games. The original "Dungeon Petz 2011" was elegant and with hidden monster development, the remake left no mystery to the development, was fiddlier (with the age count), and was nearly imposable for my old eyes to read. Both failures. I'll just bring out my 2011 version, thank-you. My best of the Con? An easy to teach and elegant strategy/push your luck game "First in Flight" that cost $52. It had proper sized cards, proper sized fonts, and wooden counters! The cost to fully bling it out with miniatures and metal coins was only $25.

    I don't disagree with the fact there are multiple "The Search for..." games that you don't need to run for it. I'm also not going to disagree that The Search for UAPs is a hard name to get behind. But, I guess, I just wanted to say that UAP is the correct term in the science community, and UFO is an outdated term that media is kind of keeping alive. No idea how the game operates, but UAP is like a catch all for not just flying, but also submerged, or trans-medium, etc. So, maybe the game isn't just traditional UFOs? 🤷🏻‍♂️

    I disagree on Arcs. Root is brutal on casual gamers, Oath is mega complex and required epic commitment, but the base Arcs is easy to teach and wild. It is easier to get to the table than Twilight Imperium by tenfold and lighter than Eclipse. The expansion, however, I skipped because... well... Twilight Imperium.

    Unless you want art prints from KDM, playtest, meet Poots, theres no reason to go to Gencon or get a mule for KDM. Kdm has thankfully eliminated the fomo with the after Gencon sale and Black Friday, nothing mini wise is truely scarce anymore. Unless you are an insane painter that does commission or sells busts for 3x the money theres no reason for a $400 Butcher bust either. When i saw the images in the discord i felt overwhelmed, like oh this will sit for years and may never get painted. The Pandemic has really over inflated our image of time and time management, now that its over playing all of those games and painting all of those minis seems like a behemoth of a task now. Ive come to really curb my KDM cravings and also accept that this is a lifetime game.

    I’m surprised by the huge variation of experiences people are having with arcs. I think it’s very group dependent. I have enjoyed it a lot but I think the players have to balance it within the game by teaming up on the leader or people can run away with leads.

    • @MaximumImpactGames
      @MaximumImpactGames 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I've enjoyed the game quite a bit, but it makes sense to me because it has all of the trappings of a typical grand strategy game, but it's decidedly not that. Typically you have the option to do whatever you want in a game like this, but Arcs somewhat "decides" your turn for you. It doesn't matter what you did last turn. If you don't have Construction cards, you CAN'T build on your turn without someone else leading it.
      It's a bit similar to Oath in that regard, I totally get why some people bounced off Arcs, because if you compare it to other "space" games, it's decidedly not that, much like Oath sells this idea of a "legacy light war game" and it's more of a narrative sandbox. The thematic trappings of the game and the mechanisms themselves can seem like one thing when they really aren't that.
      Some people will be totally repulsed by the game because they are forced to react to the cards they get. Some people love that kind of puzzle, other people will just wonder "why can't I just do what I want" and Arcs is just simply not for those people.
      It's kind of like ordering a Diet Coke and getting a Dr. Pepper. It looks like one thing, it's not that thing, and if you're setting those expectations in your head, you probably will have a more dramatic response to something that's just mismatched expectations.

    Critique for Search for UAPs boils down to fact you don't like the name. That's unfair. Seems like you did not play previous ones nor know what're the changes in upcoming one. I am a little confused why people are commenting about the title being click bait? He provided his opinion on what he believes won’t be the best deal? I believe his comments are valid and fair. People don’t have to agree, it is his opinion. Isn’t it the reason to tune in to watch video’s? Are you not after his opinion, like with any reviewer? I know I don’t settle on one persons opinion, I watch many and then make the best decision for myself and my family. Also, whilst people are bagging him for advertising a $200 game, I think the point he is trying to make is don’t get caught up in the hype of the convention, set a budget and stick to it and be smart. I don’t believe that to be unwise advice. We all know that it happens, if you are honest and if it doesn’t ring true for you, it does for others. It is a little different to watching a video and being able to take your time making a decision about a purchase or not than to be in a place buzzing with excitement, watching games fly off the shelves and feeling FOMO, just saying.

Tussie Mussie is another one we like a lot, but Mariposas didn't land-one of the most thematic games we ever played, a clear labor of love, but not the most compelling mechanically. Then I backed The Fox Experiment, and really didn't care for it... so now I'm a little nervous about Undergrove. Totally agree with your points on KDM. It is my favorite game but to new players the core game is more than enough. For seasoned players a lot of the extra stuff is too much and will sit on a shelf for years. I’ve actually done the unimaginable and sold a couple of the old expansions. The Lion God and Lion Knight just aren’t that great and the risk/reward is unbalanced at best. So my advice would be to stick with core monsters because they give you most bang for your buck. The Frogdog expansion is really cool with a lot of content and the replay ability is great. The nemesis monsters are usually not great value because you only fight them three times in a campaign.
