Pretty sure someone like John Mayer idolises SRV too and occasionally played with the same vibe. (Not talking his own songs necessarily, but when he jammed at blues concerts (ie. Crossroads with Clapton or live with Buddy Guy etc.). The dude can definitely play some guitar!

Like he was channeling his guitar playing directly from his soul, and he simply got out of the way and let it flow. Just like this video. At the end Matthew opens his eyes and looks up, almost as if “omg, I’m so blessed that THIS is my life”. Pure joy.

maybe add rory and philip sayce ? jimi's song writting is still the best for me thou, and then mathew from what ive heard. No disrespect to srv or philip, to me it seems like they tried,and trys, to replicate too much. Its 2021 i love the few songs ive heard from matt. Blues rock can get repetitive, yet he makes this huge energetic sound full of passion. Its so full of emotion... blues as a base awesome, blues as ending goal makes you sound just like another guy...

Pretty amazing playing. I've been around for a while, seen plenty of trios with fat string Strat players, but seriously, you've got something else. There's a real warmth and soul in your playing. Your band is really dynamic too. They're really working with you to push forward the feeling in your music. In many blues acts, the band is kinda boring, but you guys have a great chemistry. There’s an initiation period when first hearing any good guitarist...I’m just realizing this, now. You remain not only open, but patient when the guitarist begins to play. The guitarist is lucky. Everyone deep inside, wants him to be good. Lol. He starts playing...okay....okay..... He’s good. But??? Can I trust him to go where the heart lives? This, is what we want to know..... Yes! Matthew I watch your videos everytime you post one,I ran across this one if at the Oklahoma blues festival I also saw the one you guys play called mirrors, Matthew I have to say you are very very talented to say the least , I know with your guitar skills you will go far ,I started playing guitar when I was 13 I'm now 56 married and have a family ,along my road I gigged here and there at local bars exx.. but when watching you play it's almost mesmerizing you have the complete ability to do anything you want you're just an awesome player ,take care and god bless

Yes, I remember seeing Phil when he first hit the scene in Toronto. It was very similar to seeing another Canadian bluesman, Colin James at the Horeshoe Tavern. Each time, the age was almost identical in range and each artist was blindingly fast with runs up and down the neck with influences of SRV sprinkled within. What I really like about Matthew is his passion toward pure tone...IMO, I think this is what makes him different. 👍🎸
