Thanks for showing and sharing your comparison on how pings do under different growing conditions. I do learn and implement things from video. Thanks a lot.
Love the video! I just used the code for some pings myself! Thank you so much for showing the “harder” Side of growing pings 😅 growing them is easy and also difficult at the same time 😊 lighting is everything
Thank you for your kind words, means so much! I'm excited for your plant mail, and thank you for supporting my channel. What pings did you pull the trigger on?
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub Absolutely! I’ve learned so much from your channel! You’re part of the reason I’m so into carnivorous plants ☺️ oh man what didn’t I buy lol 😝 I got BCP golden eye, plum puddin, lilac lollipop, weiser, and sethos 🤭😂
Wow, nice choices. The lilac lollipop is definitely on my radar, I'll definitely be pulling the trigger on that one soon. Thank you again for checking out the channel, I'm so glad it's had a positive influence on you. Comments like this are what keep me motivated! Appreciate you!
Ha! Thank you so much for that. Some of the videos don't get crazy amounts of views but I'm going to keep making them. My goal with this channel is to expose these amazing plants to as many people as I can. People within the hobby already and hopefully even more outside of the hobby currently. I am hoping to create a movement in this hobby similar to what happened with succulents. Thank you for your support MasterKee, I'm going to stick with it and hope it all blows up one day! Your pinguicula's look amazing ❤️ I have a few (Weser, cyclosecta, esseriana and sethos) I have a couple under my grow light but I mainly put them there when the sun hasn't shown it's self for a few days (UK weather can be unpredictable). One thing I have started to use was capillary matting for the water trays (only on the pings), I've found that since using the matting I've not been over watering them, I initially got the matting for my fly traps when they go into dormancy. I'm sorry about your ehlersiae it sucks when you get something so beautiful and no matter what you do they die but you can always try again. California carnivores have some amazing pings (lilac lollipop is my favourite) it's just difficult to get different types of Pinguicula in UK
Oh ya, it's trickier outside of US to get Pings. I'll look into the mats, I'm in north idaho and we also get shorter growing periods and unpredictable weather. Pings really are a lot of fun, one of the most under-rated house plants, in my opinion.
I literally just asked this exact question on fly trap care forums, also coincidentally we have the same white octagon pots, aren’t they perfect for pings! I tested my aphrodite on the window sill and had the opposite outcome. The one I have under my growlight is pale and lanky while the one on my window became a beautiful green with nice wide leaves. I wish I lived in the US so I could order from California carnivores, I am so jealous ugh!
How crazy you have had opposite results! And yes, love my Octo pots. Sometimes there is no real explanation with carnivorous plants. You just have to experiment and be willing to try new things!
Regarding the Laueana X emarginata, 'possibly' the size container is the key because the larger pot's soil holds more water for a longer period and the smaller pot dries out quicker. That said, I have had 2 of the same plant in identical containers, next to each other under the same light with soil medium from the same batch and for whatever reason, one excelled in growth & the other is growing as if it is in a snail race. Types & direction of light really makes quite a difference in their growth, size & coloring. Thanks for sharing. P.S. Is the C.C. discount a one time only use or may we use it each time we order? 🌱
That's a good point, pot size was definitely different. It could have been a factor for sure. Yes, the CPHUB code should be good for an unlimited amount of times! Use away!
I have some pings, I started them on a east facing windowsill and noticed not much color change. I put them under a sansi grow light and they have changed colors drastically, and really fast... omg !!!
Do you grow P.cyclosecta under grow lights? And if you do, how much lights and what lights they get? ☺️ I am about to get one next week and I am so excited! Also how often weekly do you water it throughout the year? Thank you
How many hours of artificial light are you giving your Pings? Maybe the laueana under lights is in dormancy due to day length. Or maybe it just makes smaller leaves in high-light conditions.
Were you grow cycloseca? Can you share your watering strategies and requirements for Pings. Do you let the water evaporate before watering? Your plants dont have many bugs, is that concern? So you're in the bay area? Nice ping video!
Hey James, bugs are kind of seasonal for my pings due to being grown indoors. I do have a cyclosecta, it's doing awesome and putting out some amazing flowers right now! Maybe I'll do an update on it soon. Honestly, pings are the most forgiving of all my carnivorous plants. I do usually let the tray dry out before watering again. Sometimes I even forget for a few days and they do fine even when dried out a bit. I can get away with a little less consistent watering with these. The main thing is just don't let them sit in super wet muddy soil all day, they can rot. They can dry out too, but you would have to really neglect them. During the winter when the temps go down, they go into a succulent stage. They require even less water during these periods. Pings are some of my favorite carnivorous plants because they are so easy to grow and propagate! I am actually in North Idaho, not the bay area.
I have a pinguicula hybrid. I asume its x Tina. It something similar. I read they shouldnt be in direct sunlight. Do you think I can put it at my south facing window into direkt sun? It can also get quite hot.
Such amazing plants!! I would love to have some of those plants but sadly they don't sell them in my country. How are your droseras and cephalotus seedlings doing???
Question I can't seem to find answers to find answers to anywhere. Do you have to separate them? Or will it be fine with just an uppot. I'm asking because I actually like the appearance of them all clustered together better than being separated and I was wondering if they can thrive like that or if it would kill it
It really just depends. I have one pot where I haven't split them up for a long time, and it's beautiful. If you look at my grow tent tour I just posted, you can see what one looks like that needs to be separated and one that is still doing amazing. The one that needs separated is squeezing together and causing issues. They need to be pulled out. The other is doing awesome right now. So it really just depends. You can tell if they need to be split up.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub I have recently gone on a cephalotus propagation spree 🙃 From my original 2, I believe I'm up to like 20 now lol. ONCE YOU PROP, YOU CANT STOP 🚀🚀🚀
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub awesome. If you need a test order guinea pig let me know. Ill pay for shipping :) Setting up shipping commercially is fun times all around.
I wouldn't top water and tray water. I like to let them dry out a bit between watering as they don't like to be wet ALL the time. I usually let the tray dry out for a few days between watering.
They can, but do not self pollinate. Pollinating them is kind of tricky actually, you have to remove pedals and be very precise where you are placing the pollen. I really only recommend this if you are trying to create hybrids. If you are just looking to clone, I strongly recommend just pulling leaves. It's so much easier and much faster. I've read about pollinating and decided to avoid it for now but I've not actually gone through the process yet. Propagation has just been so easy, it hasn't been necessary for me.
@@CarnivorousPlantsHub I went prop crazy lol. Was doing about 40 leaf pulling at a time!! But ty for the insight on pollination. If you are steering clear after doing the DD, I will take the advice and stick to leaf pulling as well.
Absolutely they do, I have over 100 emarginataXmoranensis var. alba babies just beginning their carnivorous journey. After pollinating the flower will fall off about 3-5 days later then a little fruit starts to grow. Eventually the stem will start to droop and the fruit may split open. At that point grab it by the stem cut it off and just shake it onto your medium, the seeds are soooooo tiny that my first time around I ended up loosing all of them. They don’t rly root as seedlings so you can move them around if they form clusters. The first 2 leaves will grow and then a tiny stem starts and about 0.75cm off the medium the carnivorous leaves will form and that’s where the node is.

What is the substrate that you use on your pings?
Peat, Perlite and sand. I use more sand for my pings than my flytraps.
Could be the size of the pot and the ping liking to be crowded
