Gee I envy you I was helping a neighbour the other day to move some cattle along the Buller Road...we had all the signs out and flashing lights etc and then the sleet started....nearly froze my you know whats off....even the horse looked at me and said are you serious ?? Go the job done but by gee it was cold...lucky bugger up there...even when it rains the temp stays warm...great stuff mate !!
Gday Craig, Yeah mate it would be damn cold in that Mansfield area moving cattle around. Even the horse was questioning you. Lol But still it's an amazing part of Victoria. You would have a stack of snow on Buller, I bet. Cheers Batesy.
@@timbates4wdadventures They opened Buller for a free day last Saturday and it was a massive shambles....a 1K queue at the gates and no transport up the hill..2 buses and 2 taxiis...and the staff were taking people up there in their own cars. I see Timerbtop from my back door and it was covered in snow!!
@@craigwillis3372 Far out mate, I did hear about the free day one Buller. Didn't hear about the issues with getting people from the bottom to the top. That walk up to the summit of Timbertop is well worth a look. Would be amazing on the top with the snow on it. One day I will get back across that side of the High Country. Stay warm mate. Cheers Batesy.
Gday mate, Thanks for your reply, I greatly appreciate it. Hows your Patrol going? They are such a capable vehicle off road. I will be at this years Melbourne 4x4 show, with my Patrol on the stand. Drop in mate, will be great to have a chat. Cheers Batesy.
Hi Tim Should of give me a message I would of loved to catch up with you and say g’day I live in the bay and go over to the island regularly, but more to the point I’d like to catch up with you and do a high country trip with you, I was born in Mansfield but brought up around Hay,Balranald,Carrathool, and keen to catch up and have a chat Cheers Amos.
Gday Amos, Thanks heaps for your reply and feed back. Would have caught ups for sure mate. You are very lucky to have Fraser Island at your back door. If you ever come down for that High Country trip, be sure to look me up mate. If you require and help with planning your trip, please let me know. Born in Mansfield mate, I came close to moving that way not so long ago. Great town. Catch up some day for sure mate. Cheers Batesy,
G-day Tim Great vids . how do you know if a car is coming over the sand dunes when your committed already? Also when booking the trip did you 1st check the tides are doable before making bookings I want to do my 1st plan trip to Frazer next year worried about tides like to start from the top end( lighthouse) camp 1st night then make our way down , how many days needed for this 4-5 day be enough?
G'day Tony, You don't mate. You do need to be very careful when crossing over Nagarla Rocks. Just be on the watch out, just incase a 4WD starts coming your way. It's a wonder that crossing doesn't have selected UHF channel to contact anyone heading across. When i booked my trip. I booked it purely on tide times and not on what dates i wanted to go. Not everyone has that luxury. If you can book your trip on tides times, you will have a lot better trip. When i went on the 1st May i had a 5.41am High tide. Then that set me up very well for the 8 days of driving the beaches in the morning to get to the next camp. Keep in mind what i mentioned about the beach at Sandy Cape. The beach will be completely covered where the big sand dune is when the tide comes in. Make sure you allow enough time to get into camp before high tide. If you have 5 days mate, it will be enough. But the more days you have the better. If you have any more questions mate, please ley me know. Thanks for your reply and feedback. Cheers Tim.
G'day Kerrie, The guy i went with is a QLD local. When i first planned out that trip, i had Wathumba as a camp spot for one night. Dave said, you can stay there, i'll camp on the East side and wait until you come back. When i asked him why, he explained the sand flies. Not many locals will ever camp on the West side of Fraser Island, due to how bad the sand flies are compared to the East side where we camped the whole trip. The winds are not as strong on the West side and therefore the sand flies are bad. So, thats why we didn't stay at Wathumba. Cheers Tim
Love your work batesy. Keep it up legend.
Gday Kevo
Thanks mate.
That was a great trip around Fraser Island.
I’ll be back some day for sure.
Thanks mate for your feedback.

We Fraser's in the states get some mixed history about that place. Most of it in fare, is anti English Scots silt and sentiment.
Ahh righto.

Lol $2.35 on the beach. In today’s standards that average everywhere.
