I am currently in the last month & a half of my first year, & this conversation has absolutely made me feel SEEN & HEARD! I don't know how many time I've said "yoh" & laughed to myself while watching because I relate to a good 90% of what was said. Just, WOW. Thank you for this series. Let me go check out the channel.
Interesting discussion,If you girls feel the program is more of work than cultural exchange then you should campaign for work visa instead of a J1 so that after your 2 years you can be rewarded with an opportunity to apply for green card .You go girls
It’s not easy to change the visa designation. It’s not up to us and the companies will lose out on their opportunity to make money of of au pairs. The lobbying arm of these companies is Massive and STRONG.
I meant campaign that they change it for the future so that the future Au Pairs should be offered a work permit instead of a J1 as they come to work not for exchange
I think I’m one of the very lucky few who rematched and had the time of my life, I did everything I had planned I’d get to the US and do. I’ll forever be greatful to my second family because I know how bad some au pairs ❤😢

I agree @lebo it’s not easy getting a work permit and getting a company willing to sponsor you for the green card!
