As I study more in depth for my CompTIA A+, this is useful as ever! 🎉
Glad it was helpful!
Good luck man, studying for my A+ too and after taking a practice quiz I found out about SCSI that I didn’t study. So now I’m here lol
Trying to make sense of what you sat at 2:28...
sas 1800mb/s
hd on sata conector 1500 rev/min
sata connector 10 000 rev/min
the comparison is all over the place...?
Yeah, I was like what ... Lol
Somebody messed with him on the teleprompter... 😁
i think he doesnt know what 15hundred means, i searched it up its supposed to be 15 000 so he just cant speak...
sata max 10 000
sas max 15 000
sata 600mb/s
sas 1800mb/s
@@justarandomguy3969 sas max is 2x sata max, because sata can send signals unidirectionally while sas is bidirectional, it's same cable but the sender/receiver device is different technology, and also sas supports sata drives as well, it's "backwards compatible" to SATA
@@FirstnameLastname-py3bc "is 2x sata max" i dont understand what unit you are referring too? That just means it can read and write at the same time, it doesnt make it faster
bro why do all the tech you tubers got that voice that makes it hard to understand them :(
I’ve always asked myself the same question. I guess non-native speakers, like me, often put in extra effort to ensure their pronunciation is more understandable.
I really enjoyed the explanation of the SATA and m.2 drives. I hadn't heard of the SAS so that was a new one for me. One thing I did notice after doing a lot of research is that for gaming, unless you're using a mechanical hard drive, the load times between SATA, m.2 Gen 3, and m.2 Gen 4 really weren't that big a difference, a few seconds or less in most cases.
Uuu
SAS is exponentially more expensive it's $285 for a SAS adapter vs $20 for a SATA😭 and SAS is for enterprise I think I have a 4tb SATA barracuda for my ps4 but I have an 18tb exos SAS but I am not spending almost $300 to try to use that and even seagate admitted they aren't sure if it'll work on my PlayStation 😢
@@dimagass7801indeed! Price was the most shocking thing to me when I learned about SAS! You can save quite a few bucks by buying and connecting SATA drives to SAS controllers though! I would only bother in a server though, definitely not a playstation!
@dimagass7801 you won't even be able to take advantage of the sas speeds through a converter.
Thank you. Accent is bit hard to understand. good video though (except wrong rpms referred at 2:28)
SATA can only read or write. One way processing only. SAS work simultaneously both read/write - two way processing. This is not most important difference.
Yep it's also known as "full-duplex communication".
SAS replaced scsi?
SAS cables support emerging data storage technologies. SAS:
Uses SFF connectors.
Is compatible with SATA drives that can be connected to an SAS controller.
Has SAS-4 with throughput up to 22.5 Gbps, full duplex.
Has a hot-pluggable connection.
Uses expanders to daisy chain up to 65,535 devices. Terminate the last device.
Amazing video what couldn't be done with high frequency currents yet ty .
I love this comparison; very informative and easy to understand.
Thank you!
RPM is Reps per minuute not second like you mentioned - so as SAS can support up to 65535 devices in a single chain using SAS expanders not 128 only
Way easier to understand than my book
Eh man you could have said a lot more about SAS. SAS is SATA on steroids (SAS has same connector, supports SATA drives too, is on paper exactly 2x faster than SATA because SATA can send signal either up or down, not both at the same time, but SAS is bidirectional, can have full 600MB up and 600MB down at the same time, but not above 600MB; SAS cable standard supports a way longer length cables but nowadays I have seen up to 1 meter SATA cables too) SAS drives have higher security and preservation standard, i.e longevity and error correction is more advanced). Price being higher is only because of its use market - enterprise, where clients opt for more reliability and willing to pay ten times more for it. If it was as popular as SATA it would have been as cheap.
Hi! Very intresting video. Thx.
Is there any difference between lexar nm790 4tb 2237 and 2280? I have two HP 250 g10 laptops, one with 1TB and the other with 4TB. I want to upgrade from 1 to 4TB and noticed the laptop with 4TB ssd has lexar NMe790_2237 but only found 2280 to buy same model Lexar NMe790 4TB
It's Crucial that made this gen 5 nvme. It's mind blowing.
SAS and Sata are the exact same size. You can fit just as many sata drives in a pc as sas drives. The number of ports you get is determined by your motherboard or your expansion card.
So can SATA take up any of your PCIE lens?
Is there a SAS to SATA adapter to use SAS HD in older platforms made only for SATA?
You need a SAS card for one of your pcie's connectors to use for sata based boards
@@Pr.2104with that can i also boot into a sas drive?
@@jirehla-ab1671 I dont see why not it shows up on my windows as just drives I never really tried that 🤷🏽♂️
@@Pr.2104 but can u see the sas drives in bios boot menu / devices?
@@jirehla-ab1671 I think I've seen them on the bios before I'm not quite sure, I've only ever used them for my cloud server that I got in my living room just to hold my photos and stuff
0:00 SATA
2:29 SAS
5:02 PCIe
thank you come again
This already looks awesome..
you didn't mention the thermal heat issues from m.2
Is it possible to have both….this what i have : 1TB WD Black SN750SE PCIe Gen 4 SSD + 4TB SATA III Hard Drive Combo (Combo Drive
This is a question for sabrent...sata m.2 drives are still around and still popular but why don't you release sata m.2 drives and in size over 2TB? seem like nobody does and i don't understand this
Because our Rocket Q 2TB which offers around 5/6 times the speed of a sata m.2 2TB and it’s cheaper than those sata drives. Our Rocket Q SSD offers sizes up to 8TB and is much better value than an M.2 SATA SSD.
Gen 7 PCIe has already been specced out. I am waiting for a sample drive to plug into an experimental board. No graphics card maker has even talked about stepping up yo that plate.
I learned something new.
I have a sata pc can i plug a sas hard drive in ?? I want want to build a nas
How Can I connect A SAS Drive to my PC? I tryide a convertor but din't work
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Can a consumer mobo boot into a sas drive attached to a sas card?@@SabrentUSAOfficial
I need an SAS that doesn't cost fuckin $300😢 even seagate and PlayStation said they don't know if SAS will work because I have an 18tb exos SAS and if it did that'll be crazy and 5.5x more than my 4tb barracuda I have now
sas drives are half the price of sata drives when buying secondhand. so i run them in most my pc's at home.
Can u boot ingo those sas drives & can yur uefi bios see it?
Can a sas be plug in a normal pc ??
I have a sata pc can I plug a sas inside ??
I’m need a 20tb nvme drive for $350 like Sata hard drive now!
Who needs 20tb drive? With most homes getting fibre optic you can download games in a couple minutes.
Where are you getting your numbers SATA does not have a cap of 12 drives. I highly suggest anyone watching to turn this video if it is inaccurate and lazily done.
Ah yes, Satta and PCE
It’s pronounced Scuzzy not Es Cee Es Eye
3:00 per minute!
SATA drives may be plugged into SAS controllers. SAS drives cannot be plugged into SATA controllers.
When the storage is sas
very good video
if i don't understand ?
Ty ty ty
👍
p c i e PC - i guess it doesnt matter .....
SATA and PCIe are not comparable. SATA is a connector, of which the protocol is AHCI. PCIe is a protocol, on which another protocol called NVMe runs. NVMe normally uses an M.2 connector / form factor. A more fitting video title would be "SATA vs. SAS vs. M.2 NVMe".
Casinos use SAS
