- Today we dive into the 2014 25 year. As you all know the Laphroiag 25 is among our favorite annual releases and this 2014 edition is among the more highly acclaimed. This time sherry and bourbon barrels, but a rather low abv at 45.1%.

The old label looks MUCH better and more appropriate for a 25 year old whisky than the current paper ones
Great review! Have you guys tried the 2013? It seems to be the same ABV which is strange as they are cask strength. Do you think it’s the same vatting? It’s available here in aus for about 800. Could be a good buy!
No, but others have said the 2013 was special. I’m looking for that one

I have the 2015 black box, 46.8%. Opening next week when my wife's promotion goes through.
How is did it go?
@@topshelfwhisky Promotion achieved. Bottle opened. It is very good but a bit more subtle, pushing into underwhelming, than I was expecting. All the flavors are good, but the ABV and intensity are both a bit lower than I would prefer.

If you have your choice of any Laphraoig 25, I would recommend this one highly.
My wife bought this for me as a wedding gift then I realized much later it was distilled in my birth year! Special bottle for me. Great review guys

Nice review Mike & Dustin. My favorite is the 2015 release--just a bit better than 2014. 2015 has some nicer fruit/honey notes IMO.

Those Laphroaig particle corks are the squeakyist in Scotland 😂. Always worry about those kind breaking especially as they are usually very tight but so far have had no troubles. Cheers guys
Agreed, they have never given me one issue. Lagavulin and Ardbeg have so had Macallan.
I would love to try an older Laphroaig that is known for its fruit characteristics and not the medicinal taste which I despise. Did you happen to mention price and I missed it? Great review.

There is some 15 black box been available locale to me. 2 or 3 of them can’t remember if it’s 550 or 650

@@topshelfwhisky I have the 15, its 46.8 Flavor wise very similar to the 14 maybe even a bit better. I do prefer the older black box bottles. I think since these were bottled before the big boom in scotch there probably is significantly older juice in them which is reflected in their tropical nature and lower abv.
The 2015 feels thin to me
