  • I’ve been using the Macbook Pro 16 for over a year and now I’m back on Windows reviewing the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 3. The ThinkPad P1 Gen 3 is Lenovo’s lightest 15.6" mobile workstation.
    Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 3 a great windows laptop especially if you’re coming from a MacBook Pro 16. It’s very durable; it’ll last you several years. The keyboard is excellent which is much better than the MacBook Pro. And since it’s a workstation, you can do pro work and then do some gaming thanks the GPU. I'm also loving this matte black and red color combo.

    Trackpoint is great for use in the field when you're wearing gloves. Bulky or thick gloves often are hard to use with trackpads. The trackpoint makes it much easier.

    When I first got a Lenovo, I didn't "get" why people loved the trackpoint.. but I've been using it for years now, and really I couldn't live without trackpoint.. At this point for me it's just SO natural to keep my hands on the keyboard and still be able to move the mouse, no need to pick my hands up to mouse.

    I love the TrackPoint. It is like a mouse built in using your index to move the TrackPoint and clicking with your thumb. So natural. You do it and keep typing real quick.

    I purchased this laptop last week and I am typing this comment in it. From the Keyboard to screen to performance to durability, words are less to describe how amazing this product is and worth the price. I would highly recommend it especially if you are using heavy CPU consuming software be it for work purposes or personal use.

    The trackpoint is great and you should give it a chance. It's superior for precision cursor input and you can keep both hands on the keyboard the entire time. With touch pads, most users move their entire hand every time they use the touchpad. Also, the by using the trackpoint you have excellent access to the dedicated buttons above the touch pad.

    • @theindusguy
      @theindusguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      To add to the above, you always have right/left click available to you with your thumb. Moreover you can press the middle button with your thumb and just push up/down on trackpoint to scroll. All of this is without moving your hands away from keyboard.

      Yeah, don't expect those trackpoint+trackpad removed from ThinkPad lineup. You are against most of ThinkPad users, buy lenovo line up instead.

  • @WaffleusRex
    @WaffleusRex 3 ปีที่แล้ว +31

    The TrackPoint lets me move the cursor without having to take my hands off the home row of the keyboard, which is important for people who do a lot of typing. Once I got used to it, I found it extremely annoying whenever I have to use a laptop without one. It's also really useful for people who take their laptops out in the field and have to wear really thick gloves.

    The reason for the placement for the Fn key, is for users to be able to find it in the dark, for a quick illumination (Fn+space) of the keyboard.

    Change the trackpoint to the soft-rim version. It cradles the finger and takes much less force to use. The advantage of the trackpoint is to use the mouse without moving your palms so that typing is not interrupted much.

    Those that have become comfortable with the track point know what a huge compromise touch pads are. You have unlimited real estate to work in, it's much faster, and you don't have to displace your hands from the keyboard. It's that, and the best of breed keyboard that keeps me on Thinkpads.

  • @justinjager8412

    I use the thinkpad track point a lot because I primarily use arch linux and most of the things I do is though typing. It allows me to use the mouse when I need it without my hands leaving the keyboard

      The mbp with 500 nits look brighter. Would be handy if you use the laptop a lot outdoors, but I've been indoors mostly

  • @connorburke5761
    @connorburke5761 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m considering this laptop with an i7-10750h, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd, quadro t1000, and the 1080p 500 nit display (it’s on sale for around $1,200 right now). But I’m wondering about temperatures. I understand it gets loud, but I can live with that as long as temperatures are reasonable. Is there a way you can provide some input on that? Specifically for relatively high end games like forza horizon 4 or maybe CS-GO?
    The reason I ask is because my other consideration is the Zephyrus G15 with a ryzen 7 4800hs, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd, gtx 1660 ti, and a 1080p 144hz display for $1,090. But it gets up to around 90 degrees with heavy use, which is somewhat concerning.

    -touch screen

    -1080p webcam
    -microSD slot
    -180/360 screens
    -face recognition

    -Wifi 6, and of course
    -8% market share
    Not sure why TH-cam always fail to mention these things...lol

    • @DGorpinchuk
      @DGorpinchuk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This Laptop can be charged via type-c ports too. The reason it has proprietary port is: 45W CPU and Discrete GPU (NVidia) which consume a lot of power (up to ~120W counting all hardware). Current gen type-c port can to pass through itself no more than 100 watts (standart limitation), that's why there can be cases when even 100W usb type-c charger won't be enough to charge this laptop under heavy load. Still, if you are not using your laptop that way, you can use standard type-c 65W charger from other manufactures, it will suit well (but will take more time to fully charge). I think Lenovo (and other manufactures, who has proprietary adapters for such laptops) will use their own connectors until there will be new version of usb type-c with support of >100W
