Fun fact! This was from the same night as the more well-known Health Food Restaurant Hickenlooper sketch! Nov 21st, 1953. -Mel Tolkin’s granddaughter & fan of the channel.
I'm just now discovering these classic sketch shows. I have a lot to catch up on. I love Monty Python, and all the modern sketch, so this is exciting to discover. Love all the skits I've seen so far.
A combination of "And Then There Were None", "House on Haunted Hill" and "Clue". Funnily enough 2/3 of those movies were made after this sketch was aired... Thank you for uploading these treasures!
All through this wonderful sketch, I couldn't stop thinking about Neil Simon's "Murder by Death" several decades after this but so similar. I believe he was also on the show's writing staff, and seems to have a penchant for murder mysteries (he also wrote "The Cheap Detective"). I couldn't help wondering if his imprint was on this.
Agreed. What an amazing experience it must have been as a young writer to be immersed in this show! I wouldn't have relished living through the forties, but I'm definitely jealous of the opportunity he had to meet, and then become, one of the legends of comedy writing.
And on Neil Simon, who wrote two detective comedies. One of them, "Murder by Death" is so similar to this. And Carl Reiner later co-wrote and directed "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid."

If you know enough fun facts about the era you should write a book!

Wonderful "take-off" of those great 30's Dark old House movies.
Boy,oh,boy that was crazy insanely ridiculous,ha,ha,ha!😀😁😂😃😄😅😆🤗🙄
Sid Caesar skits are very funny.
Either Mel Brooks wrote the sketch, or you can really see the influence Sid had on Mel.

At least the old buzzard didn't stash the cash under a giant W.
