    Hi, this is exactly my problem now - which began yesterday and this morning - battery dead in the morning and even in the afternoon after coming out of work, humming sound at the back of the tire which I recorded... and each time battery is dead, I have to jumpstart... last I checked at 11:39pm, it’s slowly draining and doesn’t want to start again... thank you for this reset solution!

    Thanks! Mine doesn't even jump now, and it's a new Diehard battery. First time it happened, it wouldn't stay running, so had to have it towed. Off to see your update! Thanks. This van (2017 with 80K) has been nothing but trouble in the year I've owned it and I've hardly driven it because it doesn't go when I want to (not a daily driver, I bought it to go wander as I retired last year. First, thermostat, then battery, then transmission. Carfax report was fraudulent and the codes had all been cleared. Last dealer to service it (Toyota in St Augustine, FL) wrote Vehicle serviced, oil changed when in fact the check engine light was on and indicated replace transmission. Van was traded in at that time.
    Second van in a year about which I was conned. First one the dealer took back and ran two toll booths for which I got tickets. Yippee. Learned first hand that older single women are prey. Ok, now to see the update. :)

      Hello there! Thanks for sharing your story. Sorry to hear you've had some bad experiences. Hopefully you get it sorted out. After fixing the battery issue on my 2011 as shown in the video, I have not had another issue with my Caravan. It has been pretty dependable with about 210,000+ miles. I just 'granny' drive it, and it gets me safely from A to B. Just keep the oil changed on time, and don't 'push' the transmission too hard, your Caravan should last a long time. Thanks for watching, commenting, and subscribing to our TH-cam channel!

    • @Nemo-yn1sp
      @Nemo-yn1sp 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mikesbackyardmechanic Thanks! The transmission had the torque converter replaced within 500 miles of me owning it. The shop had their own part built because they said they see so many of them and the OEM part would likely fail again. They wouldn't even install the OEM part. I had them put in a transmission oil cooler, too.
      There is a recall that addresses stalling and not starting, U87, but though I got a notice, my van isn't covered.
      I'd heard lots of good things about the GC, but also many horror stories. I fear I have one of the latter. Not sure I can ever trust this van to go off to the unknown in.
      I'll tell the shop about your experience - perhaps it will be the fix. Sure don't want to spend $500-1K for a rebuilt or new TPIM!
      Thank you again.

    Thank you so much. I had this problem with my van and I took the fuse out and when I put it back in it still was humming. But I kept taking the fuse out to not drain the battery. After a few times I noticed that it had stopped. So it did work, just took a moment. Luckily all I had done prior to looking this up was get a free replacement battery. I know my van has electrical TMP problems so I looked it up right away.

    I have a 2019 Grand Caravan and have a parasitic drain which, if the van is parked more than 30 hours, the battery will be slam dead. It's a brand new battery and my alternator has a clean bill of health. I have not heard the fuel pump running after shut down.
    I don't drive much at night, but last weekend I got home well after dark. After exiting the van and shutting the door, I happened to walk by the van about 15 minutes later. I noticed that it looked like something was illuminated in the cabin. Peering in the window, I see the headlight switch (which i always keep on "auto") was lit up as well as the two roller switches next to it, the strip of buttons where the hazard, eco, etc. buttons are as well as the overhead bank of buttons (side sliding doors and hatch releases) and the rear climate control knobs.
    I periodically checked the status of these lights for 3 hours and they were all still illuminated.
    Any input on these cabin lights staying lit well after vehicle has been shut off?

      I bough a new battery and changed the WIN. Before that the car would go to start up and wouldnt start and key got stuck, had to jump it to give it a shock to remove key. 1 week later I went to start after my 2010 caravan sat for a night and it didn't start. Heard 1 click then everything powered down. Battery was drained, went to jump it and it didn't jump. When I go to start it while giving boost from other car, all the lights come on and you hear a click click and doesn't start. Then when you listen closely in the car you hear something humming, feels like by the dash board. When I go to listen to TIPM you hear the tipm doing some funny things, like its crackling, I had to disconnect the battery and will try again. I will try this solution in the video. Also I ordered a bypass relay. But if you have any other idea what it could be let me know.

    2012 Dodge caravan hitch does or can hitchbe installed ?

  • @dillwiggle2
    @dillwiggle2 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My van wouldn’t start but it wasn’t a battery issue. It was the tipm fuel pump relay that went and yeah it’s the only one that’s built right in the bottom of the tipm ! Why the heck they did that no clue and this problem was pretty much for the 2011 model year only. I used a power probe to send 12v to the other side of this one fuse and started right away there was a video on TH-cam that showed how to test for this problem. You have to get the exact year and serial number from the auto wrecker if you go that route or funny things can happen after it’s installed but at least you will be able
    To drive it. Lucky I was able
    To find the same serial with a different version number and Paid $25 and it worked perfect only thing is the defrost light flashes then goes off after a few seconds only issue I had.
    Now I’m trying to diagnose a starting issue. Now it actually seems like a dead battery, when I boost it, it starts no problem so it ain’t a fuel issue. I took out battery and charged it and the battery holds a load test and the alternator shows to be charging the battery properly. I hope it ain’t a tipm issue draining the battery for some reason ! I should listen for this humming sound although it’s winter and -20c right now which he said never happens, will see !

    I've been dealing with the problem on my Volkswagen Routan 2012 for about 2 years. I went through 3 dead batteries before realizing it was the fuel pump. I had to install a battery switch (at battery) so when I hear the fuel pump, I pop the hood and switch off the battery. Also, I've noticed this problem is very random regardless of time of year.

    I noticed recently after turning my van off it sounded like something was still running from the engine compartment not the rear wheel. But my van is dying within hours. Is there something else like a fan or something that might be staying on for some reason?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there. Battery drain can come from a variety of places, including accessories plugged in the cabin area, a glove box or vanity light left on. At night look and make sure all lights in the cabin area are off. If you hear something still running after the engine is off, you need to follow your ears and find out where it is coming from. Sometimes the coolant fan will still run for a while after the car is turned off, but not enough to make your battery dead. Have you tested your battery and alternator? Advance Auto Parts will do this for free. A bad battery or alternator will definitely keep your battery from staying charged. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Not really because every time You connect the battery again the fuel pump will still be over draining it and running constantly which will put too much of a load on the alternator and will burn out the fuel pump too soon. Its better to remove that fuse which does reset the system and fix it sometimes. Wonderful dodge wiring issues!

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic

      Hey bud, so you didn't mention if you had your alternator checked. I would check that first to see if its properly charging the battery. AutoZone can do that for you for free. If the alternator is working properly, then it could possibly be the fuel pump relay switch as mentioned in my video. Did you listen at the rear driver side tire for a humming sound after you shut the engine off? If there is a humming sound, then watch the update video (th-cam.com/video/wjY65FUlw40/w-d-xo.html) on my TH-cam channel to see how to fix it permanently. If you don't hear a humming sound and the alternator is working properly, then you may have battery drain from another source. Hope it helps. Thanks for watching!

      Hello there. Probably not the issue if there is no noise after you shut the car off. I would start with testing the alternator and the battery. Could one just put a toggle switch to break the connection manually when shutting off the van?

    • @mikesbackyardmechanic
      @mikesbackyardmechanic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, yes you could. However, where would the switch be? Under the hood? An inconvenient place to go every time you shut the car off. Wiring a toggle switch all the way back to the dash board, would take that away, but is a time consuming install. Also, when you just bypass with wires, as some do in other videos, you are bypassing the integrated relay, which takes away some of the safety features, such as when the vehicle is in a car crash, the fuel pump won't shut off. Wouldn't it be better if it worked properly and not have to worry about it anymore? Please see my UPDATE video about how to fix it permanently, the right way, without replacing the TIPM. If it doesn't turn off after you reset the fuse, I would suggest pulling it for 15 minutes. If that doesn't work (which it should), then I would leave it out until the next time you drive. I know, its a pain. For me, when I reset I'm good for awhile, months. I notice that it usually happens after a hot day, or a very long drive and the engine gets very hot. So definitely listen for the humming sound after a long drive. Thanks for watching, thanks for your comment, and subscribe!
