Each story was unique but all of them ended with the person getting arrested. Inmates promise big money for bringing something in for them and almost every time, they are the ones who rat the officer out. What I find alarming is the fact that seeing nothing more than this tiny clip is, on it's own, enough for most people to be so impressed that they immediately start making statements about how every single LEO in every county in the US needs to have officers exactly like him. Maybe he is a "good" guy and cop who follows the rules, but when did that become heroic? It's pathetic. It speaks volumes about the state of our criminal justice system, law enforcement agencies, and LEOs, that the bar is so low that we barely even question it.

When I retired from the military in 2014, I started working in corrections. This is a daily issue, and why I hardly trust anyone I work with. They usually find the officer or officer’s with financial problems, or going through a hard time in life, and use it to their advantage. They have anyone from a CO I, all the way up to warden’s and even higher bringing in contraband. The officers think it’s a easy $1,500 in their pocket. What they fail to realize is once they smuggle the first item in, they’re on the hook. If they say no, they will be threatened with being reported. It made me happy when he told him to take the uniform off

@@Scott-xb7ov "Had he resigned, he would’ve been able to keep some of his benefits and they can’t fire him, which matters for future employment."
      a. What benefits are you allowed to keep if you resign? As it stands, right now, he is at least IN THEORY eligible for unemployment benefits if he argues to the benefits office that he was falsely terminated and did NOT commit the crime he is being charged with. He would probably have to reimburse the state if found guilty after trial, but at least he would have the payments until then.
      b. On the other hand, if 2 weeks ago he gave two weeks notice of resignation, AND the sheriff accepted that resignation, he MIGHT be eligible for SOME things, especially IF he signed a contract that stipulated such things and/or was a member of a union that had specified benefits on departure.
      c. So, if unaware he was about to be terminated and arrested until that moment, he might be better off being fired. If he instantly resigned he MIGHT have forfeited several protections.
      d. "and they can’t fire him"
That's not true. You CAN be fired after submitting a resignation. Since the sheriff, in this case, would be firing because of employee faul,t the fired person would technically NOT be eligible for benefits.
      e. So, resigning and THEN being fired would pretty much end any chance of arguing you are eligible for benefits...unless a specific term of an employment contract said otherwise.

Yeah firing officers who make minor mistakes, but keeping officers that accidentally murder. You probably don't have a clue how miserable it is working in the jails. It's why they're constantly either having relationships with prisoners or giving them contraband. The job is not glamorous and is psychologically unnerving.

They need to do a better job of ensuring their guards are protected against becoming like the inmates. This is a very real phenomenon. I studied correctional science for a number of years and this was regularly discussed.
It’s hard to fathom, however, it does happen. Guards are often subjected to peer pressure. It seems easy enough to assume they could just easily dismiss this, but there’s a lot of other psychological factors that come to play here.
Often times, guards work extremely long shifts and due to staffing issues, they are forced to work doubles. They have issues at home because their families rarely see them. They are subjected to regular stress, sleeplessness, and so on. Often times, they end up working with the inmates more than fellow guards.
Has anyone ever heard of the saying, “hang around skunks long enough you start to smell like one?” That’s exactly what can happen here. This is why it’s absolutely critical and necessary for guards to have plenty of work-home life balance, psychological treatment (counseling, etc.). Many suffer from PTSD and other things. They are rarely ever treated for these conditions and stigmas are largely to blame.
