It's a good sign that the soloist knows the piece as a continuous piece or a communication between solo instrument and orchestra and not only a showcase, despite it being a concerto.
:) Of course! --my favorite. I'm not familiar with their concert hall--never been there. Hoping to study abroad there someday soon, though. I first saw this vid several years ago and it STILL motivates me every time I watch it.
@outoftunefiddler Her violin is an 1864 copy of Paganini's 'Cannone' made by Vuillaume. Hahn uses bows by American bow maker Isaac Salchow and French bow makers Emile Ouchard, Paul Jombar, and Emil Miquel.[2] As for her strings, she uses Dominants[2] for the A (aluminum wound), D and G (silver wound) and uses a Pirastro Gold Label Steel E. (from Wikipedia)
Kornbold drew from his Warner film scores for the Concerto. He referred to his personal favorite for this movement, 1937's "The Prince and the Pauper."
Terrific! I'm studying this concerto and it's unbelievably difficult, it has certain technical passages that I can't solve at the moment, but she does them incredibly naturally. Perfect. I prefer Heifetz interpretation, because I feel it nearer to the soundtrack mood that marks Korngold music, but Hilary Hahn's is also incredible, a precious gem...
I’ll think she deserves a lot of strad, but if she would like to play a Strad I’ll think she will get one. Strads love to be played and with her it will be really safe I think. It will be fun to see her playing a concert on a Strad, but you can’t say she had a bad sound now. I’ll think that she have the best sound❤️ Have a nice day
A lot of people assume that Heifetz was the best. He WAS very good, but I have listened to a lot of Hahn's recordings and some of Heifetz' and I significantly prefer Hahn's. For sure she is technically better. Also I think her interpretations are better, although his are more dramatic. From what I do know about her, I don't know her but have known people who knew her in school, she is a MUCH better person.
The early part of this sounds a bit like the theme from the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. It's not the same but I wonder if that was influenced by this?
Yeah, he and Mutter, in my opinion, are the best recordings. Hahn is so stiff, but she is so technical. Mutter and Heifetz bring a sexiness and emotional quality to this concerto like not other.
To those arguing over "Bravo" and "Brava": while it is grammatically correct in Italian to differentiate between the genders (o for masculine and a for feminine), we are not in Italy. Cut those who don't speak Italian some slack and realize that they are not bound by such linguistic niceties outside of Italy. Frankly, as a performer I would just be happy to be receiving an ovation of any sort and wouldn't be listening for such grammatical niceties...
Actually, there is no grammatical problem with "bravo". In France we all say "Bravo", maybe the man at the end is French, and that's all. Anyway, great performance ! This concerto makes me think of John Williams' music, I really loved it !
Yes, Kavakos is great! But I like Hahn's relaxed tempo. It may not be quite as exciting but it's very lyrical and fantasia-like, telling a story with her playing.
It's a great performance, played to perfection by Hahn. The only thing is that it is too fast for my taste. Especially the Galop Theme should be more pesante, it doesn't fully reflect Korngold's unique sound. For this reason I slightly prefer Shaham's performance over Hahn's, that one is a bit more laid-back but gives also the orchestra a bit more opportunities to shine.
I am muscician. I can say Heifetz do better. Maybe you think that she's the greatest thing but really there's a lot of violin players here at youtube that i saw that plays and have better things than her. You should listen to others (the older violinist as kogan, heifetz or oistrakh) and few new guys (Kavakos, Shaham, A.S. Mutter, P. Zukerman and much more) you'll find out the thrust about a few "Showmans" and really violin players.
I think: 1st-if she stop moving like a poisoned chicken she could do better 2nd-She should hear the God Violin Heifetz (if he were still alive he'll be pissed off listening her)just to know how to play it. 3rd-tecnique??? why having tecnique she don't play it as it should be?... I don't like her...HEIFETZ RULZZZZ!!!!
I love how she looks around appreciatively at the orchestra when they have their moments without her. So respectful.

Absolutely fabulous. I will finally get to hear her live this weekend playing Tchaikovsky!
just heard this today and it's already one of my favorite violin concertos :)
I love the combination of Berliner Philharmoniker and Hilary Hahn. :)
WoW!!! Thanks for posting! Amazing!
3:35 reminds me sm of harry potter
6:59 I ♥ Horn ...even if he misses one note... its a hard part for the hornists!
The Violin is brilliant :)
Kornbold drew from his Warner film scores for the Concerto. He referred to his personal favorite for this movement, 1937's "The Prince and the Pauper."
I liked this version. You could actually hear the notes. Some violinists run through it to show how clever their technique is.
stunning!
bravo! excellent performance!
on a side note, every time i hear this movement i think of the movie feivel goes west! anyone else see it? :P

somebody get this girl a strad.
she deserves if over most of the people who own one.

Stupendous! 💐
That's a pretty bold statement, robey. By the way, the technique that she brings to the music is what makes it actually sound how it should.
Thanks.

Hilary Hahn, violin
Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin,
Kent Nagano conductor
recorded in the Berlin Philharmonie 2004
4:47 John Williams moment!!
Love this piece.
Ha! I am glad I am not the only one who thought so!!!!
@@sonofagun8488 John Williams has taken a lot of inspiration shall we say from composers before him.
Absolutely sublime playing by this wonderful violinist who like a musical alchemist turns 'corn into GOLD'! sd goh (malaysia)
The finest bow arm ever!
Amazing.
Marvelous! Brava, Hilary!
Yes, he is Kent Nagano alright! Great conductor. I've seen him a lot!!!
Kent Nagano has a very cool way of flicking his hair
Does any one know who are the makers of her violin and bow? They are great instruments!!!
That's what I think about mine everytime my teacher plays it.
Thanks to everyone for your "Opinions". I choose to simply enjoy what I have access to.
The early part of this sounds a bit like the theme from the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes series. It's not the same but I wonder if that was influenced by this?
at 4.47 the doc cheering marty as he goes back to the future.
Grandiose, magie instantanée.
@agrandb i downloaded it from sheetmusic :) but i think it's also on wikipedia imslp

I think the conductor is Kent Nagano

reminds me Disney world!!!
man does anybody know what kind of mute she has on her violin tailpiece? looks cool
the Berlin Philharmonic, of course!
Actually, there is no grammatical problem with "bravo". In France we all say "Bravo", maybe the man at the end is French, and that's all.
Anyway, great performance ! This concerto makes me think of John Williams' music, I really loved it !
The conductor is Kent Nagano, and WHO IN THE WORLD IS NATALIE ZHU??
@kzrssk
She recently recorded a new violin concerto by Jennifer Higdon, so she must like it.
Awsome!! conductor?
What is prettier, her playing or her face? Can't answer, both divine IMO.
i liked the stars...of course: wonderful korngold.
she plays like a disney fairy princess and the orchestra behind her builds sound like a castle on the mountain...
my fourth finger hurts when I see 7:12
haha
SHE'S THE BEST!!!!!!
@lais898 - hehe, I know Korngold came first really, but I can't really say 'Korngold moment' since that would be a bit pointless... :)
AHH I WOULD GIVE UP MY LEGS AND NECK MOVEMENT TO PLAY LIKE YOU!! O_O
Yes, Kavakos is great! But I like Hahn's relaxed tempo. It may not be quite as exciting but it's very lyrical and fantasia-like, telling a story with her playing.
There has no Natalie Zhu in the concert, the condustor looks like Ken Nagano...
@ThorgarManowar can u send me the score of this concerto please??
She is so cute!!!!!!!
watch this 2x as fast
She totally nails it and looks completely nonchalant. ^__^
The conducter's hair looks so soft
すごすぎる、超人にしか見えません、すごい、地球人だと、思います
Brilliant; As if Heifitz Soul was reimplanted in Hilary.
*takes deep breath after the piece ends*
why is she so good? its unfair :(
What orchestra is this?
I think she messed up with her bow during the beginning

I like to see somebody try to sing that.
Kent Nagano should do a shampoo commercial.
@iamemod strads aren't all that.
@hojin92 work.
Vital.
it's more like a Korngold moment, he did come first
superhuman.
aha it is a wire mute...
i mean why do they like to keep so much hair, waving it around doesn't it get in the way, doesn't it bug them?
@301250 i see what you did there
Here because of Stranger Things S4?
Lydian Mode.
the score is hear: /watch?v=_vniCuX5eak&feature=fvsr
damn...no wonder everybody thinks classical music fans are snobs...
Love Hilary, and yet another great one of her performances, but this music belongs in Disney World, with Daffy Duck and friends. Horrid.
why do asian conductors have so much hair!
Why does the composer wear his hair like a Japanese schoolgirl?
