An Introduction to Embryonic Breathing: A Body-Mind Centering® Approach

  • When I was very ill 20 years ago, I discovered a way to breathe different from anyway I had ever breathed before. It was a breathing through the fluid rather than a breathing through the air.
At first it was difficult and required minimal effort but concentrated focus. I could breathe this way for only a few moments before I would gasp for breath and I would return to my regular breathing.
It felt primordial, perhaps even before taking my first breath of air through my lungs at birth.
Upon practicing this breathing, my state of health improved phenomenally. In sharing it with others, many people have also experienced the depth of this breathing which can sometimes feel like we are not breathing.
The name that arose for this breathing is embryonic breathing. It eventually became more than a practice - it became the foundation for the way I breathe all the time.
This video is an introduction to embryonic breathing. I share my story and experience with embryonic breathing, the anatomy of embryonic breathing, and a somatization to guide you through your own exploration of embryonic breathing.
You can find the class and somatization, Awaking Breathing in the Lobes of the Lungs, mentioned in this video here: www.bodymindcentering.com/awa...

if anyone else is confused about the anatomy like me here are all the terms spelled out:
omental foramen (the wikipedia article on this has a nice image)
    omental bursa
    greater and lesser omentum/peritoneal sac
allantois (the guardian has a nice article about the role of the allantois in how chicken eggs breathe)

Amazing class! I am Doing Win Hof method for breathing since quarentena started. It helps me a lot to understand myself/body/soul now. But listening you now I traveled to this inner space and notice this particular breath. And movement. And the fluxus. Beautiful! Thank u!

I've also found Bonnie's work to be a beautiful companion to vigorous breathing techniques like Wim Hof.

Once we have that sudden "ahhh" breath, how long should we wait to practice again? Thank you!
