    Just hours before Friday’s opening ceremony for the 2024 Summer Olympics, a series of apparently coordinated arson attacks were reported on France’s high-speed rail network. No one has claimed responsibility yet. Before the games, protests highlighted the displacement of thousands of migrants, unhoused people and other vulnerable communities as “social cleansing.” We go to Paris for an update with Jules Boykoff, former professional soccer player, author and scholar focusing on the Olympic Games, and Paul Alauzy, Paris-based activist with the collective Revers de la Médaille (Other Side of the Medal). “We are not anti-Olympics,” says Alauzy. “You can support the games, but you need to know that they have a big social impact and they come with a cost. And they come with a cost of the lives of hundreds, thousands of people being mistreated.” We also discuss how Palestinian athletes are taking part in this year’s Olympics amid the Israeli war on Gaza, the health risks of competing during rising heat and COVID, the environmental impact of major sporting events and more.

    It's disturbing how mainstream media fixates on gaffes like an upside-down flag or the mix up of South- and North Korea. Meanwhile, not a word about the clean up of “the unwanted” from Parisian streets, or the fact that Russia is banned from the games for war crimes in Ukraine, yet Israel gets a free pass to livestream a genocide without any pushback from the IOC.

    • @AL-xb1lz
      @AL-xb1lz 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s because Israel is backed by USA - that’s why even with their atrocious crimes, they’re still allowed to compete and without Russia competing, USA can win more metals 🙄 Both Israel and USA should have been banned from competing in Olympics - USA is the one behind Israel and Palestine conflict, the same for Ukraine and Russia conflict. Just like USA is the one stirring up the conflict between China and Taiwan, despicable.

      @coolioso808 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, if we really want to see current Olympics run by IOC challenged and reformed there has to be a new, viable option for athletes around the world. A Humane Olympics, if you will. Done with 100% transparency, no social cleansing, with as low of a carbon footprint as possible, Israel will never be allowed to be part of the Humane Olympics they have done it to themselves, only a free and equal Palestine or International Neutral Athletes group AND that may apply to nations that backed the war crimes of Israel, so yes, USA, UK and Canada may have to swallow their pride and send their athletes to the Humane Olympics as part of the INA group. And I'm from Canada, and I would support this.
      This is related to Buckminster Fuller's quote about how we don't change things by fighting the existing reality, we change things by building a new model that makes the current model obsolete.
      A Humane Olympics could emerge if backed by crowd-funded sources and using lots of mutual aid to develop.

    LA Summer Olympics 2028.. CA has already begun preparing for it thru the recent (very convenient) “US Supreme Court ruling allowing cities to enforce bans on sleeping outside in public spaces”.. This takes time, so CA has already enforced this Law so any city in the state is now free to remove the homeless, the state is now trying to find or create “Safe shelters” for them but the Suburbs want them removed from their Children’s Parks n Dog Parks immediately.. Vegas has also enacted this Law n it will gradually spread across the nation; overall, i believe it’s gonna turn into a National Nightmare!!

I have to keep reminding myself that the U.N. headquarters are actually in New York.
