    Mr. Cooke, today (3/26/22) marks my 49th anniversary in the bus industry. Starting as a Bus Operator in the South Bronx (30 yrs. at the New York City MTA) and then moving on to become a Senior Manager for New Jersey Transit Bus Operations.. When I managed Southern NJ Terminals during the course of my ten years at NJ Transit, Greyhound was my tenant, using some gates at our Atlantic City Terminal. In fact, I "stole" several Hound people and made them NJ Transit managers - something I never regretted. I then went ahead as a General Manager for two private bus contractors. Guess I've kind of done it all and loved every minute along the road!. I'm writing in a "round of applause" for you, sir. Your videos are exemplary. How I wish I had a person of your professional level to speak with some of the recruits I've dealt with over the decades. You are clear, thorough and "real." Truly, you are a valuable asset to the Hound. Mr. Cooke, bus driving (no matter what my position in the industry, I always consider my root-self to be a driver) is my life's work. Despite what some might think (and who gives a hoot), it is a profession, in the truest sense of the word. Your pride shines through. And that is one of the hallmarks manifested by a person who has success indelibly etched in their future endeavors. My best wishes for your continued success. For you, Mr. Cooke - - the best is yet to come. Fred

    My question is, who the fuck is going to read a route guide when it’s 2am in the morning? Who wants to keep pulling over to read a route guide?

    The no GPS rule is BS. It’s 2023. Why doesn’t GH have GPS on the buses anyway?

    Good show! Do you remember: What are the 'words of wisdom' on the signs at the exit from the Depot?

    I have never seen guides used. This does not happen. Matter fact, I’ve had a couple times with there’s been three drivers on the bus. All of them had no idea where we were going.

      That’s odd. Most of us, when I was there, would look over the route guide and just use the gps on our phones and have an ear bud in.

    I remember back in the '90's I drove in to Cleavland ,Ohio with 47 passengers on board and got of the exit and pulled up to a corner in the Greyhound bus and asked the people on the corner if they knew where the Greyhound bus station, ALL OF THE PEOPLE ON THE CORNER AND THE BUS BROKE-OUT IN LAUGHTER.

    Getting good at navigating is not the problem. Doing so while other people are looking at you to get them where they want to go and being learning to navigate while are lost is a major problem.

    Route guides 9 out of 10 times are WRONG! They need to out GPS for commercial vehicles in the buses! It is more of a distraction trying to read a route guide at night with the driver light on!!!! Not safe either!!!

    I would keep the gps/phone in my bag and keep the bluetooth in my ear on top of memorizing the route. No one would ever know

    • @rpruneau68
      @rpruneau68 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with that not all take into consideration the you are operating a commercial vehicle that is long, wide heavy and 12'-6' or above.

    Get a good GPS, keep it updated and learn to use it. Review all roads and turns before departure. Won't get lost. Won't end up in tight spots or need to ask pax for directions. I've driven charter for 10 years. Rarely the same destination, just addresses for origin and destination.

    Route guides are out dated most of the time and yes he is right you will get lost once or twice... The main goal is to pay attention to the signs, I like to call it " stay nosey " pay attention. I was out of Philadelphia so I can't speak for the west coast, but these route guides aint sh*t and will get you into some sh*t. Do what you have to do to get there but do it safely.

      Hello Greyhound driver I was listening to your comments and questions on your video I have a question about Greyhound I recently in August show from a road from Montgomery to New York and I have a question about when I was writing all the electricity I wondered what the issue about that because the Wi-Fi works on it but the electricity doesn't work on it and I live here in Montgomery Alabama when you get this message and you take another question video please update me with that situation about the Greyhound buses from Montgomery to New York City Port authority

    Those sound like crappy route guides. Mileage and time are important pieces of information. I expected more from Greyhound. That's dissapointing to hear.

    Hey you might wanna chill on making these gh videos. A union rep is trying to get you fired.

    • @MsAutumnBreeze
      @MsAutumnBreeze 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Molly Smile all you have to do is find the right people who know their sh**. There are a lot of bitter drivers but within the bunch, there are some who actually still enjoy what they do and know how to stay positive. Just keep those in your corner; you’ll be fine. If you’re younger... make a plan and stick to it. GH is NOT the place to be to retire from.

    • @bossman8231
      @bossman8231 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      F**k GH they are being sold anyway, nobody want to buy that sh*t company. It's going down and has been on the decline for decades Thats why FIRST is selling the company. As a former driver I'm glad I left because the future of the company itself is unstable...

      Nate thevideoking too informative when it comes to the equipment... not safe for drivers is what I was told.

    • @NateTheVideoKing
      @NateTheVideoKing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Dang. I've come across his videos once or twice. I never saw anything that secretive or unsafe for us. It's not like he's showing people how to start the bus. Idk. I wonder who the rep is? In any case. The young man making the videos. If your reading this, I've never met you but before you post, probably best to get with management to get it the video cleared. It's alot of grumpy old-timers who are haters.
