    [OUTRO CORRECTION]
    Hey guys Derald here, in the outro I mixed it up. Fuji was more magenta surprisingly. The results from this roll are contrary to the usual green tint of Fuji. Not sure if this is because of the scanning or because the photos were shot indoor. We need to make a follow-up vid on this.

      Colour shift is more strong when the image is underexposed. By the lack of detail in the blacks and shadows I think you guys have exposed for the highlights. When I want natural skin tones, I meter for the skin and open 1 stop. Film can handle highs quite well.
      Btw, nice video!

    Hi guys, I had the feeling most images were a bit underexposed, was it intentionally? Liked the video, nice job!

  • @qnetx

    I'm not sure why you went to the trouble of using the same lens and cameras then used two different scanners. For a controlled experiment I would have thought you would have scanned using the same scanner and software.

    • @ThirtyFiveStudio
      @ThirtyFiveStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      QNetX For clarification, all photos shown in this video are from the same scanner/ scanning method and software settings. But prior to editing this vid, we tried 2 different methods then settled for this one. Please join our fb group for the full explanation that we’ll post soon. :)

      @@ThirtyFiveStudio - Excellent. I misunderstood. By the way, I noticed similar results with my own tests. Ultramax has nice skin tones, Fuji is a bit magenta, Lomo has good contrast but I also noticed that Lomo also has great skin tones if you overexpose a bit. It is all subjective though. Thanks for the response and the video.

    There is actually no "right from the negative", not in scanning and also not in darkroom printing. Enlarging in the darkroom might interpret the negative differently, but there are also some RGB settings to be set. Everything "direct" is only relying on "auto" or "default".

    man, you sure you didn't mix any scans and names?
    Besides the terrible and unexpected outcome from the superia, in some groups it looked like the color pattern swapped between ultramax and superia like at 4:13
    I'm thinking you might have messed up on scanning. :-(

    almost every shot (except for max and lomo shots) are underexposed due to a in-camera light meter, a retry from the things you've learned since then would be a nice second part.

    • @Fjalll
      @Fjalll 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheaper films are responding poorly to underexposed scenarios. Some more than others. I believe the difference would've been less obvious if they shot in a well lit environment or exposed a little brighter. I would recommend watching this video if you're interested comparing different film stocks: th-cam.com/video/pitm2n2CWIY/w-d-xo.html

  • @desypher8721
    @desypher8721 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I really like the concept on this video but I also have to say that although the photos honestly came out amazing, I don't feel that the film stocks were fairly compared to each other and don't really SUPER accurately represent how each film stock looks, since it wasn't tested in broad daylight. At least sana as an additional test or category, the indoor shots could be taken as a set of their own on how they do indoors. In general, just a critique for improvement is to make it clear that film performs differently in different settings (could've expounded on what Gab said, since its a relatively short video naman).

    • @ThirtyFiveStudio
      @ThirtyFiveStudio  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! Our film comparison videos should always be taken with a pinch of salt. There are multiple variables that can affect a film stock's performance (lens coating, ambient light, film development, etc). We might make follow up vids in the future testing them under daylight. Thanks for the constructive criticism!

    Your methods could be more scientific.
    1 The daylight can change brightness direction and color through the window from shot to shot... especially with that much time between shots
    2 The cameras could have variances in their shutter speeds
    3 Shooting handheld instead of using a tripod could introduce variables

  • @rickygalindo2353

    Not gonna lie this review is really crappy especially since that “magenta” color from Fuji is caused by underexposing. Next use a light meter instead of the in camera meter.
