They’ll just get their copper from some place else. Nothing works without wire and the best conductor is copper. I wish he had gone to Centerville and Walkerville also. I would love to see what they look like today. This makes me home sick even though I was only there for 5-6 years as a young teenager. I still miss it.
Great walk. Looks very peaceful. Nice to see so many trees newly planted along the side walks.. That should be a trend setter for all towns and cities. Thanks Henry!
My parents and family were raised in Butte. Irish minor immigrants. At one time Butte had over 100k people. Mines ran 24/7. Copper Capital of the world. The Summer Irish Festival is really fun. He missed a lot of the areas cause you need to drive to see most of it. Weekends people have lot of outdoor activities they go to. Night time is active.
So nice to see the town and streets where I have been once. Refrehses the nicest memories of my friends and town people who treated me as one of them. Thank you very much
You passed right by my grandson’s place on Copper St. He is a senior at Montana Tech and we visited to watch him play football. Go Diggers! Love Butte!
Spent summers of my childhood in Butte, at my Grandma’s, on Colorado Street. My grandparents were Italian immigrants and had 5 children…3 survived to adulthood. An Uncle worked in the mines. I was there late 1950’s and 1960’s. Butte has always seemed like a living ghost town to me. All those beautiful old buildings and homes. It seemed quiet to me even in the 1960’s. My grandparents house was beautiful old home which is now in ruins. I look at it on google and my heart breaks at how neglected it became over the years. Butte to me is a beautiful strange town. You can still imagine what it was like back in the mining days of 1800’s.
Well said Stephanie. I have often wished I had the money to save and restore all of those old buildings. Interesting to hear it was like that in the 60's as well. Thanks so much for watching and taking time to share those memories and thoughts. -H
I do like your walks. I am currently a geography student and like to watch videos on different places. My primary mode of transport is walking, too. Walking around is my fav past time. Currently, I am scouting some midwestern or great lakes region for to relocate to see about going for a bachelor's degree in geography sciences. Just watched your video on Casper, Wy, too. Another place on my list for moving to to study for geography. I will see how it goes. Cool vids!
Very beautiful, I like it very much. Reminds me of the film by Wim Wenders: "Don't com Knocking". There are also scenes in a street with head frames in the background. In my town there were also a lot of old industrial buildings and residential buildings with bricks. Since there is not much space in Germany - lol - and most people want to live in new buildings, almost everything was torn down and residential buildings put on top.
This is a little bit like Bruges Belgium. The economy completely bypassed it which meant there was no economic incentive to knock down these old buildings. Back door conservation I guess. - H
Next time in Butte take the bus tour and you'll get an education at the same time. You missed so much including the Copper King Mansions and mining museum.
Great suggestion. We've done the underground tour but you are right, there is so much history to this place and so many great stories to tell. Thanks so much -H
Hi H. Wow you are kidding about all the empty buildings. I lived in Butte from 1958 to spring of 61. Have to give the city big credit for up keep on all the vacant buildings. They look to be in excellent condition.
The top of the hill you were walking has an elevation slightly over 6000 feet. The "Flats" the newer area of the south side of town, is 5200 feet. Good exercise walking around town.
Thanks so much for this. I really appreciate viewers adding additional info that I either miss or get wrong. Also thanks for the comments on the anaconda video. Much appreciated. All the best and keep on steppin’ - H.
Many thanks for the walk Henry. Interesting city. I like the architecture and the cities overall aesthetic, though it seems like it could use some more green space. I hope that Butte benefits from an influx of young professionals like Bozeman has. I think I might have to seek out a book on the cities early history. Thanks for piquing my interest. All the best to you and yours.
Glad you enjoyed it. I don't think many people are moving to Butte, unfortunately. And yes, I am with you on more green space. It's a pretty dry area though. What they really need is a couple of economic drivers to put people back to work. It's a great community but it has struggled economically for quite awhile now. -H
My two biggest impressions of Butte: 1) all the buildings are red, brown, red-brown, orange-brown, reddish, rust, pink-brown, etc. Endless red bricks, various shades of red, forever and ever. 2) the fronts of the buildings are all flat flush with the sidewalk and the sidewalk is immediately alongside the road. You try to walk along but scrape one elbow along the fronts of buildings and scrape the other against parked cars. I may exaggerate a bit, but that's the impression. I'm watching videos on Butte because one of the current job prospects I'm considering is in Butte. So I am curious to see what the town is like, imagine what living there would be like, compared to places I'm familiar with. Where would I hang out on a Saturday morning? Where would I find fellow digital artists and mad scientists and electronics engineers? I guess it'll be a lot easier to find brick layers.
Thanks! Enjoyed this walk inside during our mini heatwave we are experiencing in central Texas. I think you guys are going to break 100 next week? Stay safe-going to be a hot hot summer!
Not sure about Butte but it was 97 in Livingston. Our second venture into the 90's this month. Not unheard of but definitely unusual. Hopefully it moderates as the summer moves on. Stay cool down there and thanks for watching -H
Many businesses do not survive in Butte. Since the mines closed down much of the town has left. Population in 1900 was 100,000, now it is 34,500 for the entire county.
I remember on Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown", he described Butte as tragically beautiful. I go to the Missoula area 2 or 3 times a year but it's been decades since I visited Butte.
Wow wonderful video 👍 amazing view 😍 video quality 🎥 impressive 👍
Thank you so much 👍 -H
Thank you. I came upon this just now, when I needed some motivation. Great Video.
You are so welcome! -H
Loving the history of this little place, fantastic stuff. Not long now till the mining is gone hopefully and the land can recover, so exciting!
Thanks so much -H

So True Kelly, Great and fascinating town with lots to do in the area. -H
Were Halligan hills named after Irish Ranchers? I often heard near my parish in Ireland was were the Halligans came from ..
So nice to see the town and streets where I have been once. Refrehses the nicest memories of my friends and town people who treated me as one of them. Thank you very much
So nice. Glad you enjoyed your time there. -H
Loving these videos. They are a perfect distraction when I am doing a home workout! Keep it up!

Thank you for letting us explore this beautiful town, the channel is growing up, it'll hit 30k soon 🔜, good job Henry
Hope so. Things sure have slowed down the last couple months. -H
It's boring here
*-Henry ....can you make some videos at the Boardwalk in SANTA CRUZ CA...it's really great this time of the year 😊👍*
Next time I'm down there, I will try to get there. Thanks for the suggestion. -H
Appreciate your time recording the wonderful videos 😍 thanks for sharing 🙏 wish you all the best

That is awesome! So glad these are helping. Keep in mind the Casper winters. Cool town but definitely remote and windy. Best of luck. -H
Thank you! This was a great tour!
So glad you enjoyed it. It's a great city. -H
*-Henry.... .have you tried using a UV FILTER on you camera ? It will give you a clearer video on bright days 😊👍*
I was using a GoPro and not sure they make them for that. But I'll look into it. -H

You were only a couple blocks from the Copper King mansion. Too bad you didn't include that area.
This made my day ❤️
So glad! -H
Hi H. Wow you are kidding about all the empty buildings. I lived in Butte from 1958 to spring of 61. Have to give the city big credit for up keep on all the vacant buildings. They look to be in excellent condition.
Interesting. I imagine that it was a much different place back then. Thanks for the comment. -H

Yuppies like Bozeman has is the LAST thing people of Butte want moving there, believe me.
I used to live in Butte. Nice to see it again.
Good to hear -H
*-Henry alert 🕵👮🕴🚔🚓🚨*
Yep, they were taking off out of there fast. -H
watching from kampala Uganda ...
Welcome and thanks. -H
Such beautiful content!
Glad you think so! Thanks for the comment. -H
Enjoyed this walk very much. A nice town with lots of nice buildings. The name Butte is so cool, it sounds awesome in Norwegian 😄
So glad you liked it. YEs, I love the buildings but the town is so empty due to economic issues. They keep trying though. -H
It's not awesome there's nothing to do here
*_Nice place! Nice video._*
Thank you very much! -H
TY Henry 😊
Most welcome
I am watching from Kalam Valley
Welcome! -H
Did I hear the word "filling station"? Classic
Probably. There's also a bar in Bozeman called the Filling Station. -H
This is one of the places in Montana in which I like to see old buildings.
They are pretty classic and well preserved. I'd love to see them get more use. -H

Hi Daren, yep, a lot of brick in Butte but it's got a lot of history and great characters. Best of luck. -H
Would like to see the 360 footage. Where do I find it?
Thanks Mary you can find it on my other channel @CityWalks360
Mr.Henry why are the streets empty?
Just the way Butte is. Formerly much larger. -H
That’s uptown not downtown not the same as the city
Thanks for the clarification. -H
What does -H mean
*-Henry. ..is this the town were nobody lives 😐.....it's dead man !*
Pretty much. Great town but definitely had some hard times. -H
Thanks! Enjoyed this walk inside during our mini heatwave we are experiencing in central Texas. I think you guys are going to break 100 next week? Stay safe-going to be a hot hot summer!

Where are the people ?
Not in Butte. They've lost a lot of population over the years due to economic decline. Also, it was the weekend. -H
For the record, this is Uptown Butte.
Thanks for the correction.-H
*-Henry.... How do businesses survive in a place like this ? 😐*
Many don't, unfortunately. Still a very interesting place to visit. -H

Peking Noodle is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in the U.S. Had a cousin that busted suds there..lol
Nice. Thanks for sharing. -H
You do well then Henry if you can cope with people looking at you. I feel like that everytime i step out the door
Yeah, it's interesting to be observed as I'm also doing the observing. -H
Love the insight, but it's so dead 😄it could be because of the corona.
Nope, it's the economy. It's been a tough several decades for Butte. -H
👍
Thanks. -H
This guy is talking too much.
Yeah, he does go on. :-) -H
I remember on Anthony Bourdain's "Parts Unknown", he described Butte as tragically beautiful. I go to the Missoula area 2 or 3 times a year but it's been decades since I visited Butte.
You should give it a visit if you can take the under ground tour and the mining museum. -H
